A highly entertaining grim dark fantasy tale of revenge. Like the First Law trilogy, this is very much a character driven tale with a meandering plot, yet action packed and at times very funny. If you like revenge thrillers you‘ll definitely enjoy this one. Connected to the First Law trilogy but can be read as a standalone. 4.5⭐️

Here are the big books on my main yearly tbr. There be more big books (especially pending the Sanderson mystery project books) but these I definitely want to get to for #ChunksterChallenge2023
-Almost a Chunkster - The Grace of Kings, Engines of Empire, Best Served Cold
-Chunkster Mini - Ordinary Monsters, The Black Prism
-Chunkster - Ship of Magic
No Super Chunksters yet!
Just binge read the first three books. Best series I have read in a long time. There are truly no actual “good” guys, but I love them all anyway. Triggers for pretty extreme violence, but my cold and evil heart loved it 👿
I‘m surprised that Abercrombie didn‘t turn this area of the First Law world into a trilogy as well. Then again, trying to deconstruct a revenge fantasy over three books is a tall order for anyone...
“War without fire is as worthless as sausages without mustard.” — Henry V. Always love the war and conflicts of the First Law World. Best Served Cold is a heart pounding action and adventure fantasy novel. Monza Murcatto, hell bent on avenging her brother‘s death. She will stop at nothing to get it done, found an ally in Nicomo Cosca. Shivers! A man trying to do the right thing. I believed Monza destroyed him. A likeable character in Friendly.

I went with the word “cold” in the title; hope to read this book someday.
I am not sure if this should be a pick or so-so. A tale of revenge, set in the First Law universe in Styria which is similar to Renaissance Italy, a fractured land with city states fighting for dominance, a land for mercenaries. Monza a mercenary captain who has been betrayed by her employer puts together a rag tag team of killers to seek revenge. Violent, amoral, a story where good men become bad and at best bad people become less bad.
Joe Abercrombie- Grimdark defined. Anyone who is a good man is an idiot whose only purpose is to be used by those who see clearly and understand that evil is the only way to achieve anything in this world. Oh and any book without an extended torture scene in which good men are ruined by the bad is wasted. Every one of this guys books I read the i always swear is the last. But I come back to him. Perhaps I am the masochist.
🗡️🗡️ I think I've fallen out of love with Joe Abercrombie. I just haven't really enjoyed these books. So I'm going to leave him alone for a while. The women in his books don't feel like actual people to me and I find myself being really frustrated as I read. On to other things.
Found this box set in Fopp today for only £6. Couldn't pass it up!!

Couldn't think of a creative take, so went literal, with "best" in the title.
I am enjoying this series so much, I just popped out and bought the remaining three books from Indigo and treated myself to the new Monstress as well 🤗
I love this cover! Got this for cheap at Book Depository. #joeabercrombie #bestservedcold
I'm sleepy and this weather is giving me a migraine so yay I think my afternoon is good to go. (It's legal in Nevada to have greens now so I don't have to feel like such a horrible DARE graduate failure/degenerate now lol. Feels weird being kinda open about it.)
This morning has really sucked but then Barnes and Noble called to let me know a book I ordered had arrived. Yay things are looking up!
Love is a fine cushion to rest upon, but only hate can make you a better person.
A lot of words that lead to little plot and almost no character development. No where near as bad as George RR Martin, but defiantly not subtle
Well written but not a very fun read.
