Muumipeikko ja pyrstötähti
Muumipeikko ja pyrstötähti | Tove Jansson
17 posts | 25 read | 8 to read
Ovatko Muumilaakson oudot luonnonilmiöt lähestyvän tuhon merkkejä? Muumipeikko lähtee pitkälle ja vaarallisellekin matkalle saadakseen vastauksen. Muumilaaksossa on rauhallista.

Take a shot everytime Moomintroll says 'Strike me Pink!'...šŸ˜†
So many adventures! I admit to being slightly baffled by my library's choices about this series, the first in hardcover, the next only available as an audiobook, but maybe it was a licensing/price thing. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? While I think part of the Moomintroll series appeal is supposed to be the art, I'll give kudos to the English narrator for an entertaining array of voices providing its own 'colour' for this audiobook. That being said, the Silken Monkey was a little grating. šŸ˜¬ 7mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/? I guess this also went from being a picture book series to middle grade novellas, because the first was 50 pages and this was nearly 200? I'm not actually sure my library has the full set, but I'd be happy to pick up another as a palate cleanser. 7mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 I thought there was going to be a bit of nonsense about gender norms associated with its mid '40s initial release, but on balance I'd say the Snorkmaiden rose above any notions of shallow, empty-headed materiality when in a crisis, and the rest is just young and old people (especially your own siblings) saying crap about girls even the young reader knows isn't true. (edited) 7mo

Bookwomble Tove Jansson didn't follow gender norms in her life, nor in her writing šŸ˜ŠšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ 7mo

Bookwomble @Robotswithpersonality She was šŸ˜Š I've had the tagged biography for eight years, as well as a volume of her letters, neither of which I've read yet! šŸ˜³ Hopefully, I'll get to at least one of them before too long šŸ˜ 7mo
Robotswithpersonality @Bookwomble Bio stacked! I admittedly have a much better track record with memoirs than full on biographies, but knowing it's under 300 pages makes it more likely I'll read it! šŸ˜… (edited) 7mo

I read some of these with my eldest when he was a boy. We loved them! Episodic children's lit with quirky characters, a philosophical bent and a touch of melancholia. Another one I mean to reread/finish...

I saw it! Sleep eluded me last night so I went in search of comet Neowise. (Its 'hair' is suspiciously like Little My's, if you ask me.) Momentous things, comets. The last time I saw one was Hale-Bopp, when I was pregnant with Miss K.

WanderingBookaneer Can you see it with the naked eye? 4y
quietlycuriouskate @WanderingBookaneer Just about, yes. It was below and slightly to the right of Ursa major. Where I am that's the most light-polluted part of the sky and I could still make it out. Binoculars put the matter beyond doubt. 4y
Soubhiville @alysonwrites this post made me think of you for obvious reasons. I will forever associate Moomins with you now. 4y
alysonimagines @Soubhiville Aww I am honored. Moomin love forever! šŸ˜ 4y

Just finished posting some Labour election campaign letters, so treating myself to my second slice of cake today! Plus a pot of Earl Grey, hot!

Bookwomble @TrishB Good on him šŸ˜€āœŠšŸ» Unbelievably, I do know a couple of Tory Liverpudlians - a rare breed! 5y

arlenefinnigan I used to live near Broadgreen Conservative Club but they were embarrassed about being Tories so the sign said THE BROADGREEN CLUB in big letters and 'Broadgreen Conservative Club' in tiny writing underneath. 5y
Bookwomble @arlenefinnigan Ha, ha! You'd hope it would give them some empathy for other minorities! šŸ˜„ 5y

Weaponxgirl @Bookwomble that‘s impressive! I swear mine has tantrums at me, sometimes it gives me incredible intelligent words I‘ve never used in my life and then other times it will just let me try and type a word in various forms of what I know is incorrect spelling and not help me out at all 5y

A Tove Jansson shelfie šŸ’–šŸ“ššŸ’– I'm running out of space, so had to move some other books off- shelf to fit the Jansson's in their rightful place.

saresmoore šŸ˜ A wonderful collection of a very special author! 7y
RowReads1 Nice collection! All I see missing are the comics. 7y
Bookwomble @saresmoore she's one of my favourites šŸ˜Š 7y

Bookwomble @RowReads1 I've got a couple of the comic strip collections, but they don't fit on that shelf šŸ˜Š 7y
LeahBergen I loved The Summer Book (and should really pick up a copy of A Winter Book). 7y
arubabookwoman I‘ve never read the Moomin books, though I‘ve loved the 3 ā€œgrown-upā€ books of hers I‘ve read. As an adult, I usually don‘t care to read/reread children‘s or YA literature. Do you think the Moomin books might still be enjoyable for me? Maybe I‘ll just have to tackle a grandchild to sit down and read these with. 7y
Bookwomble @arubabookwoman I find Jansson's children's books have enough charm to satisfy my adult childlike-self. Also, while Moomintroll, a child, is the main focus, she also gives her adult characters their own voice, so I can also connect as a parent. If your grandchildren like books, I don't think you'd need to do much chikd-wrangling to get them to sit down with the Moomins šŸ˜Š 7y
Bookwomble @LeahBergen The Summer Book is one of my favourites - I read so slow I don't usually have time to get thorough a book in a single sitting, but I did with this one ā¤ A Winter Book is good, but be aware that is an anthology of previously published short stories rather than an original work. Necessary for the Curse of Completionism, though šŸ˜‰ 7y

It's surprisingly odd to pick up a book in your own language when you mostly read in English. But I had this sudden urge to reread this funny, wise little book today, even though I'm up to my neck with other unfinished books. Oh well.

But if I finish this one today, I have reached 65 books read on my Goodreads Challenge. Yay. I may celebrate it by.. adding more books to my TBR.

Had not read the Moomin books before but a book-loving friend highly recommended them. The story for this first book is sweet and fun and loving - full of friends and family. Lots of very subtle humour as well.

I had to buy already something for #ValentinesBookExchange . It was screaming "Litsy" when I saw it in a store while shopping for books. I don't even have my secret person yet. I just have to hope that the person matches my perfect bookish find...
