This book was so good. Part of my felt bad for Asa and what he went through as a child but part of my hated him too. So glad Sloan got a happy ending she deserved.
I haven‘t read a lot of Colleen Hoover but I know this isn‘t her usual type of romance. It‘s dark, gritty and sometimes cringey. It wasn‘t the most exciting story and is predictable but still a good, quick read that passed the slow moments at work. Definitely does not beat out Verity which is still my fav by her.
I know he wasn‘t described like this in the book, but I automatically pictured Asa Jackson as Jeremy Meeks (the inmate turned model)
2.75/5 ⭐️ it was close to three stars, but some of the things that happened kept it from being three. It was pretty fast-paced and had some intense moments I enjoyed reading.
It was different, and I enjoyed reading it but pretty predictable
Very different to CoHo's usual soppy, chick lit tear jerkers. This will divide people. You'll either really like it or will hate it. I liked it.
The characters are flawed, and the subject is gritty. It's also quite intense and vulgar in parts.
Trigger warnings for domestic abuse, drug misuse, sexual assault, gas lighting and violence.
This book is too vulgar for me
"you had a lot of potential. But you spent every day of your life expecting the world to repay you for a few really shitty years you were dealt as a child. That's where you went wrong. The world doesn't owe us a thing. We take what we‘re given and we make the most of it. But you took what you were given and you shit on it and then expected more."
Worries flow from her lips like the random words that flow from her fingertips. I reach out and try to catch them, clenching them in my fists, wanting nothing more than to catch them all.
I read this book in a single trip to the beach. I will say that certain scenes/chapters are pretty graphic and uncomfortable to read. Also, the characters weren‘t very likable in my opinion. I still enjoyed the book and couldn‘t wait to figure out what happened. Still doesn‘t beat Verity though!
I love Colleen Hoover and this is one that doesn‘t get talked about a lot. Anyone read this?
This book is very very different than any other book CH has written. She admits that and said it was written as a fun side project. It is free on Kindle Unlimited. It was an ok book. I didn't like how it ended and then went to an epilogue, prologue, and more. She had a reason for that too, but I still didn't like it. Sloan comes off as ignorant and whiny for a good portion of the book imo.
The only reason this book is so-so is because Asa infuriated me the entire time.
Ugh, the more I think about this the more I hate it.
I read this in about a day, not because it was so good but because I was trying to figure out what the hell CoHo was thinking. It's like walking into a movie half way through and leaving early.
The only plot: abusive love triangle. Yay.
The abrupt ending followed by 150pages of epilogue, prologue and additional epilogue just drug this out needlessly and irritated the hell out of me.
Sunday mornings 😌

I have no idea if this actually fits because I haven't gotten to it yet, my in my previous experience with Colleen Hoover, I can imagine parts of this at least might be #TooDarnHot

“Love finds you in the forgiveness at the tail end of a fight. Love finds you in the empathy you feel for someone else. Love finds you in the embrace that follows a tragedy. Love finds you in the celebration after the conquering of an illness. Love finds you in the devastation after the surrender to an illness.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I needed an escape and CoHo‘s compulsively readable stories always hook me. This one, however, carried on far too long. The story could have ended 2/3 through and been fantastic, but instead there‘s a massive epilogue, then an epilogue to the epilogue, then present day. Why not just call them parts, FFS? This annoyed me to death. I‘ll give credit to Hoover, though, Asa was quite the detestable villain. I kept turning the pages.
I love Colleen‘s writing. She has a way of writing that just sucks you in, even when it‘s got difficult parts to read 🖤
Well, I was taking a break from Litsy because the stress of trying to keep up with reading goals was too much alongside a move, work, school, etc., but I found out today that someone at my work was diagnosed with Coronavirus. I am now without a job and under isolation for the foreseeable future, and all I am doing is reading.
I went to Costco to get dog food, and they're rationing what's left of the food. I'm not one to panic, but I'm scared.
This was different that the others. Intense. I did think Sloan cried a lot but then again her situation was dire. Holy cow to go Asa. Talk about a fatal attraction. He was a problem from the start for her.
Why am I like this??
Verity by Colleen Hoover isn't yet it the database so I had to tag an older book. Verity! This is an indie published thriller, which is not the typical CoHo genre. I read it in 4 sittings. I had to....you will too. Reminds me of how I felt after reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. ☆☆☆☆☆ and since it's indie it's only $4.99 on Kindle.
Love isn't foud in the attraction you have to someone. Love isn't found in the laughter you share. Love isn't found in all the things you have in common. Love is not, in any way, shape or form, defined by nor found in the abundance of bliss it brings two people. Love is not found. Love finds.
Love finds you in the forgiveness at the tail end of the fight. Love finds you in the empathy you feel for someone else. Love finds you in the embrace that follows a tradegy. Love finds you in the celebration after conquering of an illness. Love finds you in devastation after the surrender to an illness.
It's just that sometimes we try to turn these temporary people into forever people but that's not their role. They're not meant to stay in our lives forever. God called them to be there for us for only a short period of time. God called them to be in our lives so they can make us better for the ones who are meant to stay forever.

I loved this book! It was different from her other books because it was kinda dark. However I liked Asa‘s character even I know he‘s not everyone‘s favorite😌
Loved it! Such an addictive storyline! I couldn't put it down. 5/5 stars. Also, loved that meet cute! ?? P.S. Coincidentally, Colleen just posted today on the "Colleen Hoover's CoHorts" Facebook Page a character name pronunciation guide, and I found out I'd been mentally mispronouncing Asa's name. It's correctly pronounced "Asa: Aysuh, long a and suh". I'd been pronouncing it Asa, as in, "Mata la cucaracha, ASÁ!!" ...??♀️?Oh well! ??♀️?
