I can so relate to this. I wake up every morning with a song in my head, sometimes one I haven‘t heard for years. One day at 7-11 a woman turned around and gave me a weird look, and then I realized I was singing to myself.

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

About A Boy, one of my favourite films!
@Eggs @AlwaysBeenALoverOfBooks
"'How can it not be possible to tell someone they've got your name wrong?'
'Because...' Will knew that sometimes it was not possible through personal experience. One of his neighbors opposite... called him Bill - always had done and presumably always would, right up untill the day he died. It actually irritated Will, who was not, he felt, by any stretch of the imagination, a Bill. Bill wouldn't smoke spliffs and listen to Nirvana."
"He was nearly shouting now. He was certainly angry. They had been talking for less than three minutes, yet he was beginning to feel as though this telephone conversation was going to be his life's work; that once every few hours he would put the receiver down to eat and sleep and go to the toilet, and the rest of the time Fiona would be telling him one thing and then it's opposite over and over again."
Typically I would try to get more creative for #Movie2BookRecs, but I really do recommend the source material if you liked #AboutABoy. To me, the book had a very different feel than the movie, and I'd be curious to see if others agree! @Klou
This is one of my favourite films, but also a great read. Not sure why not read it sooner - bern sitting on my shelf for years. Totally recommended!
Now at 13 hrs 8 mins for #20in4. Seem to have got some of my reading mojo back. 🥵 Helped by this Readathon.
Unlikely friendship between a man & a boy which entangles life drama and what it means to grow up
I need to rant about English teachers in my part of Bavaria for a bit - indulge me. Why is the choice of reading material for Abitur English classes so samey every single year? I‘ve been tutoring kids from those classes for over two decades and while Of Mice and Men and About a Boy are good books they are NOT the only books in the world!!!! Honestly! There are great writers whose names are not Hornby or Steinbeck, trust me. 🙄

You had to live in your own bubble. You couldn't force your way into someone else's, because then it wouldn't be a bubble any more.
This book was really entertaining and humorous. Will (played by Hugh Grant in the movie) meets Marcus, a kid who is in desperate need of a father figure. But can Will fill that need? Great story; only complaint is that the characters do not seem to be redeemable in the slightest, and they like it that way. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Will, a child-free single man, meets Marcus, a twelve year old beyond his years, when Will is pretending to be a single parent to meet women. A great story with laugh out loud moments. In some ways very similar to the movie and in other ways quite different. Some light relief from heavier books.
This was my first Nick Hornby novel and I was surprised how much I liked it. I imagined something indulgently in favor of man-children, and while it's definitely about a man-child, it is about growth and maturity and allowing other people to make you a better person. #litsyatoz @BookishMarginalia
I only have 20 pages left but I can't do it! I'm already impressed that I stayed awake this long since I had no sleep this week, but I think I have to call it for this #readathon. @DeweysReadathon
Utterly Fun to Walk Through
#fallintobooks #day8
The degree of #awkward in this book, especially pertaining to the young boy, hit so close to home that it took me the better part of a year to finish. I might have already posted about this, but it remains my go-to reference point.
New read! After how much I loved High Fidelity, this shouldn't disappoint.

Aside from Nirvana serving as a pivotal plot point, this book gets at some real adolescent awkwardness. Was actually hard for me to read, to the point that I took nearly half a year to finish it.
This one sticks in my mind when I think of #booksaboutmothers Seems like a tough enough job for anyone, let alone if you're a single mom suffering from depression. I remember the movie more than the book, which is usually annoying, but Toni Collette gives such a powerful performance that it doesn't bother me for this one.
Poor Marcus is just such an awkward boy.

loved this one, the book and the movie! 💕#AlexGiveaway
Young love ❤️
Hornby does have a way of cutting to the quick on such matters.

I finished my last book at 2am this morning. Thankfully I remembered to grab a new one before leaving for the day.

#FeistyFeb #boyinthetitle AND #Riotgrams #makeabookface. Two Feb challenges all wrapped into one 👏. My husband and I have most of Nick Hornby's books on our shelves, and we're going to see Nick Earls who wrote Bachelor Kisses at the Perth Writer's Festival on the weekend. ❤📚❤📚
A story of a 36-year-old man, meeting a 12-year-old boy. Who will teach who on how to live a great life?
Interesting... 😊 😊 😊
A funny read to entertain me on my way to Portugal where I'll spend Christmas with family ✈️🇵🇹
Excellent. Loved the whole awkwardness of Will, being 36 without kids, a job or a girlfriend. Nick Hornby always brings his characters alive in my opinion, Will came across so uncomfortable, Fiona was great and Markus really really funny in his thinking process.
So many great #favoritefriendships to choose from, but I'm going with Will and Marcus in ABOUT A BOY.
I can't wait to spend the next few hours pretending nothing but this book exists 💙
Finished this last week, having a hard time putting my thoughts on it into words though. It wasn't what I thought it was (spoiler, I had no idea there would be a suicide attempt and I like to be prepared for that) I really did like it. The characters were very real people just trying to do their best I think. I want to say that it was darker than I was expecting but that isn't really the right word. I do recommend it though.
I don't like movie covers, I've been looking for this with the original cover but couldn't pass up when I found this one in the discount section the other day. Picked this to start out of the five I brought with me for a two day trip 😂
Nick Hornby does it again. This guy's clever insight into the human condition is uncanny. Plus I learned that my copy is signed!
I randomly stumbled upon this book in a second hand book store and I devoured it on a few days. Will and Marcus are both really hilarious characters. It's an easy laid-back read but really shouldn't be under estimated. Looking forward to read more of Hornby books.
Ahhhhhh that moment when you rediscover a fab book.... (and who can forget that moment with an unfortunate duck and a loaf of bread!) 🍞
