Bitter Harvest
Bitter Harvest: A Womans Fury A Mothers Sacrifice | Ann Rule
19 posts | 33 read | 23 to read
GIFTED WITH A BRILLIANT MIND, BLESSED WITH A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY -- AND CURSED WITH A DESTRUCTIVE MADNESS In this harrowing New York Times bestseller, Ann Rule is at her masterful best as she winnows horrific truths from the ashes of what seemed like paradise in Prairie Village, Kansas. Rule probes the case of Debora Green, a doctor and a loving mother who seemed to epitomize the dreams of the American heartland. A small-town girl with a genius IQ, she achieved an enviable life: her own medical practice, a handsome physician husband, three perfect children, and an opulent home in an exclusive Kansas City suburb. But when a raging fire destroyed that home and took two lives, the trail of clues led investigators to a stunning conclusion. Piece by piece, Ann Rule digs beneath this placid Midwestern facade to unveil a disturbing portrait of strangely troubled marriages, infidelity, desperation, suicide, and escalating acts of revenge that forever changed dozens of lives.

This was a hard read. Violence against children is so difficult and heartbreaking, and Ann Rule has a knack for letting you get attached to victims before they die. It does keep their memories alive and bring justice and humanity to them, but it hurts also. I cannot fathom what this father went through. This was a devastating story.

The Queen of Crime never fails me.

Deborah Green isn't a name I've been familiar with but it always amazes me to read about a woman who murders her children. Obviously suffering from mental illness but I do believe that Green knew exactly what she was doing and why. In Rule's book you get a terrifying account of Green's mental decline and how (I believe) this could have been avoided and her children spared.

FantasyChick This gives me my very first #bookspinbingo of the month and checks off my Blind Date prompt for #TBRDeckofCards 🤗 #jumpstart2021 #slumpathon #joyousjanuary @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks @Hestapleton @Lizpixie 3y

This book bothered me. I think because it is a true story. I was so upset by the way Deb acted. It was incomprehensible to me.

This is my first Ann Rule book. I had heard of her before but never read anything. I liked the writing style. It seemed conversational and easy to read. My only complaint was too much time was spent on the lawyers involved in the trial. I didn‘t feel the need for so much personal information.

MidnightBookGirl I started reading Ann Rule back when I was young because she used to work with Ted Bundy on a crisis hotline. 4y

Currently reading. I read a lot of mystery/thrillers, but somehow knowing this is a true story makes it so much worse.

Crazeedi I haven't read this one by her 4y

My TBR for December. Three of these I have started but need to finish. The last one is a NetGalley read.

A really fascinating read and a departure from the usual pattern of true crime. Rules work is thoroughly researched, sensitive and compulsive. #truecrime #annrule

Haunting and horrifying. After finishing this, I spent an hour on Google reading about this case. A quick listen at less than 7 hours 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I was originally going to use this for my #truecrime #pop18 pick but now I'm thinking #bookwithanuglycover since I have another #truecrime in mind!

Great read! So heartbreaking and tragic to think a person could do such heinous things. And to her own children!!! 😢 Beautifully written. Easy to follow the events as described by the author according to her interviews and accounts. Although the author tends to repeat details a bit, it serves as more of a review of facts rather than a nuisance. Definitely recommend this book especially to True Crime fans ❤️

AmyG A good one, for sure. 6y

So this happened like 1-2 minutes from where I grew up when I was 8 years old. This is my first time hearing about it. It‘s hard to imagine something like this happening at all, let alone near my home. Kansas has some crazy crime. #truecrime #kansas
