Complete Poems of Emily Bronte
Complete Poems of Emily Bronte | Emily Bront
37 posts | 15 read | 10 to read
Emily Bronte (1818-1848), of the well-known Bronte family, is best known for her novel "Wuthering Heights," which has been deemed a classic of English literature. She wrote two complete notebooks of poetry by 1844, which were soon discovered by her sister, Charlotte. At Charlotte's urging, Emily began publishing the poems in collaborative works with her two sisters under the pseudonyms Acton, Ellis and Currer Bell. Emily's poems were praised by critics for their power and intellect, although the collections did not sell well upon their publication. Because she wrote entirely for her own satisfaction, without desire for fame or posterity, Emily Bronte's poetry displays a private, instinctive style. The genuine nature of her words, which were inspired by the traditions of her Romantic predecessors, expresses a true artistic vision of energy, life and the soul from an intensely introspective point of view."

What a treasure! Kudos to those who stepped up to preserve this literary treasure for the public instead of allowing it to be hidden away in a private collection.

“So hopeless is the world without;
The world within I doubly prize;
Thy world, where guile, and hate, and doubt,
And cold suspicion never rise;
Where thou, and I, and Liberty,
Have undisputed sovereignty.“

Remembering Emily Brontë on her birthday.

Mystic.Archives.Of.Dantalian

Mirth is but a mad beguiling
Of the golden-gifted time;
Love—a demon-meteor, wiling
Heedless feet to gulfs of crime.

Those who follow earthly pleasure,
Heavenly knowledge will not lead;
Wisdom hides from them her treasure,
Virtue bids them evil-speed!

quote
Mystic.Archives.Of.Dantalian

To match his patience 'gainst her hate,
His heart rebellious all the while.
Where Pleasure still will lead to wrong,
And helpless Reason warn in vain;
And Truth is weak, and Treachery strong;
And Joy the surest path to Pain;
And Peace, the lethargy of Grief;
And Hope, a phantom of the soul;
And Life, a labour, void and brief;
And Death, the despot of the whole !

quote
Mystic.Archives.Of.Dantalian

And, this shall be my dream to-night;
I'll think the heaven of glorious spheres
Is rolling on its course of light
In endless bliss, through endless years;
I'll think, there's not one world above,
Far as these straining eyes can see,
Where Wisdom ever laughed at Love,
Or Virtue crouched to Infamy;

quote
Mystic.Archives.Of.Dantalian

Reason, indeed, may oft complain
For Nature's sad reality,
And tell the suffering heart how vain
Its cherished dreams must always be;
And Truth may rudely trample down
The flowers of Fancy, newly-blown

"No coward #soul is mine
No trembler in the world's storm-troubled sphere."

Who doesn't take heart from this beautiful poem by Emily Bronte? In fact, all three sisters in this #family are an #inspiration to me- I love their imagination, and their rebellious determination, and I'm grateful to them for writing heroines who control their own destinies. #QuotsyNov18 #FallIntoReading #Gratitude30

Wuthering Heights is my favorite classic. I later read and loved Emily Bronte's poetry (as well as her biography by Winifred Gerin).⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
