Mirth is but a mad beguiling
Of the golden-gifted time;
Love—a demon-meteor, wiling
Heedless feet to gulfs of crime.

Those who follow earthly pleasure,
Heavenly knowledge will not lead;
Wisdom hides from them her treasure,
Virtue bids them evil-speed!

To match his patience 'gainst her hate,
His heart rebellious all the while.
Where Pleasure still will lead to wrong,
And helpless Reason warn in vain;
And Truth is weak, and Treachery strong;
And Joy the surest path to Pain;

This is my latest acquisition in my quest to read all things Bronte.

Wuthering Heights is my favorite classic. I later read and loved Emily Bronte's poetry (as well as her biography by Winifred Gerin).⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
