Hope In The Dark | Rebecca Solnit

This article is not from the tagged book, but it deals in the same currency. Solnit writes about the loneliness epidemic, the rising wave of authoritarianism, and most importantly, how we can feel better about our lives. It‘s a quick but important read. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jun/04/trump-covid-climat...

I started this book 3 years ago, and I only just finished it tonight. I‘ve been going through and tying up loose ends, completing books that I‘d abandoned in my own personal book graveyard. My favorite part of this book was the chapter on writing. I underlined a lot in that one. There were some parts I felt like I needed to skip: mostly the sections on family and pretty much all the Bible/Jesus stuff. The parts that were enjoyable were great. ⬇️

slategreyskies (Cont.) but I didn‘t feel like I could give it a pick since I had to skip or skim through several sections. Overall, recommended with reservations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️!! 3w

Originally published in 2003, the edition I listened to was 2017. All of the topics are still relevant and of importance, however the discussion around them has changed. Much of the discussion/essay topic was the war in Iraq and the time between 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq.
All of the essays were about finding that bright spot, that moment even if it was a failure. Everyone could use a bit of that.
3.8 ⭐️ only because it‘s a little dated.

Many. Those that stand out are those I got to listen to speak for a long time or share a meal or long conversation : Amy Lee-Tai , Jason Reynolds, Jazz Jennings, Yusef Salaam, Lindy West(had us in hysterics) I would love to meet Judy Blume ♥️.

#NewYearNewBooks Day 16: One of the most profound picturebooks on #Refugees and asks this question: “What if I had to move from place to place? And the only things I could keep were what I was able to carry with me. What would it be like to live like that?” This is one story that pushes the envelope just a tad further, as international picturebook titles from Norway usually do.

🌲 Yesterday I started this moody book. It takes place in New York where many people are getting ready for #Christmas.
#photochallenge Day 25: Christmas

🪩 I took the opportunity to cover the ugly “Made into a Hallmark movie” fake sticker with a silver disco ball.
