Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties | Camille Pagn
26 posts | 32 read | 36 to read
From bestselling author Camille Pagan comes a hilarious and hopeful story about a woman on the verge of a nervous breakthrough. At fifty-three, Maggie Harris has a good marriage and two mostly happy children. Perpetually anxious, she's also accumulated a list of semi-reasonable fears: falling air conditioners, the IRS, identity theft, skydiving, and airbag recalls. But never once did Maggie worry that her husband of nearly thirty years would leave her.On the day Adam walks out the door, everything that makes Maggie secure goes with him. Only then does she realize that while she's been busy caring for everyone else, she's become invisible to the world--and to herself.Maggie cautiously begins to rebuild her life with a trip to Rome, a new career, and even a rebound romance. But when a fresh crisis strikes and an uncertain future looms, she must decide: How much will she risk to remain the woman she's just become?

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I‘m not sure what I was expecting, but this was like every other book out there about a woman who took care of her family instead of herself which then led to divorce. Queue trip alone to find herself and add self diagnosing alcoholism (when there really wasn‘t any reason to do so). I did enjoy the ending though. Book #22 in 2022

I borrowed this book through Amazon Prime and I'd give it a solid three stars. It's about a woman whose husband ends the relationship and she is left to figure out who she is past her marriage and children. It's not super thrilling but relatable, good for a plane read.

Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties is my second book by Camille Pagán (I listened on @scribd), and I loved it so much. Protagonist Maggie is a fifty-something woman with two grown children and a happy marriage to her long-time love Adam. And then Adam shocks her by telling Maggie that he's unhappy, that he has someone else, that he's leaving. Maggie is devastated but determined (at first) to find their love and relationship again. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod I want Maggie's journey to be unspoiled, so I won't share many more details. But through the novel, Pagán shares Maggie's recovery from her heartbreak and the way that she finds an identity she hasn't thought about in a while. The development of this character feels SO genuine and is SO lovely and vulnerable--it's really touching. The book is also funny, and I just love Maggie's realism and practicality. ⬇️ 5y
UnabridgedPod I also appreciated that the narrative acknowledges and then quickly dismisses the "easy" conclusions that many books about love might embrace. Instead, we see the fully nuanced consideration of what it's like to have and lose a relationship with someone else and to build, instead, a relationship with oneself. (And shout out to narrator Amy McFadden. She's *excellent*.)⠀

Have you read this novel (or anything by Camille Pagán)? What did you think?

#WanderingJune So this book is somewhat of a cliche but it was easy and delightful with a good amount of humor and charm. Ending did induce some eye rolling 🙄After 30 years of marriage, Maggie‘s husband decides to just call it quits. Tired of feeling like a dishrag, Maggie embarks on a solo trip to Rome, where endless possibilities awaken Maggie.

Not sure why, but I picked up this book on my Kindle last night and quickly fell into the light and humorous tone. This passage struck me as eerily familiar. My two boys look much more like me; while my daughter looks& acts just like my husband. So as a mom, I can relate to that sense of illogical favoritism. Any other parents feel that way??? I know, we‘re not meant to have favorites ( and I don‘t)but I‘m definitely drawn to certain qualities😜

sisilia Gorgeous kids! 😍 6y
LeahBergen Aww, look at those beautiful kids. I‘d kill for your daughter‘s legs. 😆😆 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @sisilia @LeahBergen all 3 of my kids have long lean legs 🥰they certainly didn‘t get that from me 😉 6y

Cathythoughts Beautiful children 👍🏻♥️( well , they will always be children to us ! Right ?! ) 6y
JennyM Beautiful humans ❤️😘 6y
Cinfhen Funny @Ruthiella they do look similar in this photo when in real life they don‘t resemble each other as much. But I thank you all for the compliments #ProudMom @JennyM @Cathythoughts 6y
TrishB Both my kids are just me in every way! Hubby says you wouldn‘t think there was any other involvement and they‘ve come out of a clone store 😁😁 That‘s a gorgeous pic 💜 6y
batsy They're both beautiful! ❤️ And I was just gonna say the same about long legs @LeahBergen 😆 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I know what you mean about splitting image, it‘s like a miniature of you or your other half! Lovely photo of your beautiful kids! 6y
Crazeedi Isn't it funny how we see our children! Lovely photo @cinfhen 6y
Elizabeth2 Gorgeous kids!! I have two who are more like me, and two who are just like hubby. I am so much harder on the two like me and have such soft spots for the two like hubby, and he‘s the same - soft spots for the two like me. We have a good balance that way. I guess we see our own flaws in the kids that are like us. (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Thanks for all the compliments - besides being beautiful on the outside they‘re even more beautiful on the inside @Crazeedi @erzascarletbookgasm @batsy @TrishB @Elizabeth2 and it‘s weird what we choose to see about our offspring 😆 6y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen if they take after their mama, their beauty is plain for all to see!! ❣❣ 6y
Cinfhen Ahhhh, you‘re way to sweet @Crazeedi Thank You 🙏🏻 😘😘 6y
Reviewsbylola I also don‘t have a favorite, although I do favor one child over the other on certain days. 😆 As far as looks, I have no idea who Genevieve looks like, but her long legs remind me of myself at that age and she resembles my paternal grandmother. Flo is 💯 my mom, Anne, and my maternal grandfather. So much so that I noticed the resemblance during a 3D ultrasound! 6y
Cinfhen That‘s crazzzy, that you spotted similarities on your ultrasound. My kids looked like aliens👽 @Reviewsbylola 6y
Centique I agree with you! I think certain aspects of personality just chime with our own personalities better/easier. Luckily I have different interests in common with each of my kids - so it helps level everything out. 6y
Reviewsbylola ONLY once they turned it on 3D. On a regular US, she looked like an alien. It was super crazy because Brian noticed the resemblance right away too!! 6y
Suet624 Such lovely human beings!!!! 6y
Cinfhen They really are @Suet624 I‘m a lucky mom 💚 6y
Cinfhen I had all 3 kids before they did the 3D ultrasound so I missed out @Reviewsbylola is a 3D ultrasound standard practice now ?? 6y
Reviewsbylola I don‘t think so. You can pay extra and get them done at ultrasound “boutiques”. I was a high risk so I got more ultrasounds done, and at a high risk OB office, so sometimes for fun they would switch it to 3D for me at the end. 😆 6y

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book was a light fun quirky read that I enjoyed despite the topic. Maggie was amazingly gracious and likeable. The book gets a recommendation from me, especially if you're having a hard time.

I finished a book! It feels like it‘s been a long reading drought. This one was just ok for me. I didn‘t care for or connect with the main character. It did make me wonder what I‘d do if Life as I know it was suddenly turned upside down, though.

What do you do when you wake up one day & don‘t recognize yourself?. After almost 30 years of marriage Maggie‘s husband leaves her & she has to ‘find herself‘. What she does next surprises everyone, including herself! A 4 ⭐️read that has you rooting for Maggie!!

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for providing an ARC for my honest review.

Pagan's novel is about a woman going through a painful divorce and the obstacles she faces in its aftermath. The main character is fully developed, but every other side character feels flat. There are also loads of divorcee cliches in this (solo European trip, sexy rebound guy, etc.), so I pretty much predicted the entire plot. This novel reminded me why I try to steer clear of chick lit books - I just need a lot more plot and depth. #arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️

An expertly drawn portrait of a woman finding the strength to go find out what is next in life. Maggie is tired of trying to make everyone else happy. Now is the time for herself. This is a witty and endearing story of Maggie‘s self discovery. Maggie‘s well-drawn character of an “invisible” woman is someone many women can relate to.
