A Killer in King's Cove
A Killer in King's Cove | Iona Whishaw
10 posts | 9 read | 10 to read
A smart and enchanting postwar mystery that will appeal to fans of the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. It is 1946, and war-weary young ex-intelligence officer Lane Winslow leaves London to look for a fresh start. When she finds herself happily settled into a sleepy hamlet in the interior of British Columbia surrounded by a suitably eclectic cast of small-town characters she feels like she may finally be able to put her past to rest. But then a body is discovered, the victim of murder, and although she works alongside the towns inspectors Darling and Ames to discover who might have possibly have motivation to kill, she unknowingly casts doubt on herself. As the investigation reveals facts that she has desperately tried to keep a secret, it threatens to pull her into a vortex of even greater losses than the ones she has already endured. A clever postwar mystery that will appeal to fans the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear or the Bess Crawford series by Charles Todd.

It is truly Fall, my porch is too dark & too cold at 6 a.m. Having my first coffee in bed does feel Luxurious though! I can enjoy the porch later in the day #porchlife

Blaire It‘s true. I want to get out on the porch but it‘s in the 40s...just a touch too chilly. 4mo
Scochrane26 I went to let my cat out on my sunporch this morning, then realized it was about 40 degrees. Made him come back in because I wasn‘t going to be cold. Now it‘s warmer, so I let him out. 4mo
kspenmoll @Scochrane26 In the 60s here this afternoon-our porch is not screened in so we have to be out there... 3mo

A Killer in King‘s Cove is like an English village mystery, except in Canada. Set post WWII, the characters have interesting backstories from the war that impact their every day life. Looking forward to seeing how the series, which is set in a small mountain town, develops. 📚 Bookish question: What are your favorite fictional small towns and villages? 🔎🌲🏔🔎

Bklover Three Pines from the Louise Penny books❤️ 8mo
Sarah83 There are quite a few. Especially I love the settings in Agatha Christie's books, when there is a manor and a little village pretty close. 8mo
SaraRosett @Bklover Three Pines is a big reader fav! 🌲🌲🌲😀 7mo

Loved it! Moving right on to the second book in this series. The Canadian setting, the fact that it takes place right after WWII and the mystery, all add up to a very enjoyable read. Now I drink my tea and read more of this series☕️

Another freezing, cold day. What else is a girl to do besides drink hot tea and curl up with a really good book? ☕️So far I am enjoying the first book in this series. I love the setting, near Nelson BC, and the story is well written.

Dragon We used to go shopping in Nelson when I was a kid , I will have to read this one 😀🐉 11mo
robinb I‘ve been meaning to start this series forever...I have the book, just need to move it up the list! 11mo

I really enjoyed this, it was just the type of cozy mystery I needed. Lane is a great character & the rest of the characters are well done too. I think it was a little long, but I have already put a hold on the next in the series.

Jaimelire I am currently reading this book. Loving it so far! 11mo

Excited for my #bookishmail from Thriftbooks today! The first two in a new-to-me mystery series! I also managed to snag the third and fourth books on Kindle sale recently.

Maybe I should have read the first one before ordering the rest you say??! 😳
Now where‘s the fun in that I ask you??! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤞🤞

#helpmeihaveaproblem 😩😱

Melissa_J I have a bad habit of ordering books in series before reading the first book. I can‘t seem to stop myself. 2y
robinb @Melissa_J My excitement in discovery gets the best of me and I lose control. Thanks for admitting I‘m not alone! 🙌🏼 2y
Pamwurtzler That‘s a problem? I think not. Let us know how they are! 2y

robinb @Pamwurtzler LOL, bless you. Will do! 2y
LeahBergen I quite often buy the first couple of books in a series. 😬 2y
robinb @LeahBergen I think I really got carried away finding the third and fourth on Kindle sale. THEN I found decent prices for the first two on Thriftbooks and it became a foregone conclusion...I simply gave in! 😆😆😆 2y

5⭐️My new mystery series obsession. Former WW2 MI6 operative, Lane Winslow escapes to the tranquil woods of Canada. Her cottage is in the idyllic setting of apple orchards, evergreens, a lake, and a quiet community. Until a body is found wedged in the creek dam. Her name scribbled on a piece of paper in the corpse‘s pocket. Secrets and lies unravel in a well written plot. Gorgeous scenic descriptions and overall, well done.🔍
