🎧 I like fairytale retellings. This was similar to Beauty & the Beast. I like the way this author spins a yarn. The antagonist was great. It‘s a bit dark but fun! The novels are fantastic palate cleansers between ridiculous chonkers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Bryony, lost in the woods, finds a strange mansion inhabited by a cursed … yes, this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. (Though Bryony is really rather plain.) It's a fresh retelling, with Kingfisher's humor. Bryony is more of a gardener than a bookworm, and sets about what she does best — growing things. Her nemesis is a nasty and bloodthirsty rose bush, and she has an unexpected ally. You'll enjoy the twists and the thorns.

Current book situation... These are all either coming in or going out!!! I always have piles but they have been even more pile-y than ever lately haha

Anyway, I received my #LMPBC book back safe & sound yesterday @Laughterhp and I totally forgot you said you were sending Ten Thousand Doors so I was bonus excited!!

Had a lovely round reading with you all!! @Chrissyreadit @Sace

Laughterhp Yay! Glad they both got there safely! 3y
Sace I had such a good time! I hope we can read together again sometime. 3y
Chrissyreadit @Sace @Laughterhp @TheAromaofBooks I loved this round! And would be thrilled any time we read together- I‘m still reading Summon, I just could not focus on anything the last two weeks- not just election stuff- work was incredibly stressful. I may have binge watched The Hunger Games movies several times. But I‘m back on my game!!! 3y

TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - Sometimes a bunch of life-stuff all happens at once!! Hopefully you've pushed through the worst of it!! I'm always up for reading together again. If you all were interested, we could always pick just one book to pass around (instead of each person picking a book) since then it wouldn't be as much of a commitment to get through. @Laughterhp @Sace 3y
Sace @Chrissyreadit @Laughterhp @TheAromaofBooks hoo boy.... And Summon was the weakest book of the bunch for me. I take responsibility and apologize to everyone! 3y
Sace @TheAromaofBooks that's a great idea! 3y
Laughterhp Oh, I like that idea. I really enjoyed reading with you all too! @Sace @Chrissyreadit 3y
Chrissyreadit @Laughterhp @Sace @TheAromaofBooks I love the idea! I want to see everyone‘s thoughts though.... maybe a thread here and we add to it when specific thoughts occurred, cover with spoiler and after you read book interact with comments? 3y
TheAromaofBooks That's a great idea @Chrissyreadit !! I always feel like the books should get sent around again so everyone can read the comments they missed! 😂 Does anyone have a book around that they want to read/send? I have piles of potentials haha @Laughterhp @Sace 3y
Laughterhp I‘m sure we all have piles of potentials 😂. What genre are we thinking? @Sace @Chrissyreadit 3y
Sace @TheAromaofBooks Agree! I hate that I won't see other comments on The Wrong Side of Magic that @chrissyreadit chose. 3y
Sace @Laughterhp @chrissyreadit @TheAromaofbooks I'm fine with any genre that isn't too heavy. 3y
Chrissyreadit @Sace @TheAromaofBooks @Laughterhp light and funny? Magical? Retelling? Or any that are a good story. I enjoyed the books we read this round a lot- what are you all wishing fo? I‘m open to sending it around again if people want to see comments or sending it “backwards” from the last person 3y
Chrissyreadit Also if we want to do a regular round I‘m ok with that- I may be a week or so slower but that‘s par for my course. Books that are my mood or thoughts and I‘m open to one book one of you chooses instead- 3y
Chrissyreadit My bookspin for this month: 3y
Laughterhp @Chrissyreadit Out of those, I like the sound of the Dragon‘s guide and The Keeper of Lost Things. 3y
Laughterhp Here‘s a couple of suggestions @Chrissyreadit @Sace 3y
Chrissyreadit @Laughterhp I would be excited to read the Sea House or 2AM.... (I did not love howls, although my kids did) 3y
Sace @Chrissyreadit @Laughterhp @TheAromaofBooks I'm confused... Are we all picking a book or is one person choosing a book and we pass around that one book? 🤔 3y
Chrissyreadit @Sace either but I figured I would offer options and if we all saw a book we really wanted to read great- If we voted - I will say I‘m ok with one person sending it and we reverse to send back to read comments. If everyone posts book options and we list top three then choose the one we all have in common? Or you can pick one and send it and that‘s fine too. I‘m happy no matter what. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit @Sace @Laughterhp - Sorry, yesterday got a little crazy & I wasn't on here much!! So literally all of those books look awesome to me haha My vote is that Chrissy chooses one of them & reads it whenever she gets a chance & mails it in the order we were following before. When we get to the end we can decide if we want to mail it backwards or not. In the meantime, if Chrissy posts a review when she's done we should be able to ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) have a discussion there as each of us finishes it as long as we use spoiler notices. However, I'm open to other options. I just tend to boss people around when it's decision-making time 😂 So let me know what you think!!! 3y
Laughterhp Haha sometimes we need a firm hand to make a decision 😂. That works for me! 😆 @Chrissyreadit @Sace 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Laughterhp - I'm the oldest of six children & have a mother who is frequently indecisive, so I tend to just step in & tell people how to live their lives! 😂 3y

Finished this book last night. It was really good! A different Beauty and the Beast retelling. Bryony is a Gardener, so there is a lot of garden talk in this book. The story was very compelling, but also pretty quick. Great choice Sarah! #LMPBC

A sweet Beauty & The Beast adaptation. Bryony is a gardener and she stumbles into the Beast's enchanted house during a snowstorm. They must work together to try to break the spell & to make a really great vegetable garden.

@Chrissyreadit I got your package for #LMPBC. I'm really looking forward to reading it!

It's not roses but I did spy a small bloom on my weed trellis today (I'm hoping it's morning glory? I'm trash at garden stuff.)

tpixie What a cute little bloom! 💜 @Chrissyreadit Book looks interesting!! (edited) 4y

I want a magic house with a magic garden and a magic library....musings while reading my #LMPBC book. And thanks to @LibrarianRyan for fun bookmarks while I entail to make greater progress in her BBRC

TheAromaofBooks Right?? Bryony complained a lot about the groundskeeping work doing itself but... while I enjoy gardening, I'm not completely sure I'd be upset if someone else was doing the work!! 😂 4y

Hey #GroupI - I mailed my book to @Chrissyreadit yesterday but forgot to take a picture!! #LMPBC @Sace @Laughterhp

ishan0986 Here i go bothering you again, but you really explain things quite awesomely, so i can't resist. So you guys are mailing each other books?? 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ishan0986 - lol no problem!! Yes, #LMPBC stands for Litsy Mark-up Postal Book Club & is organized by @Suvata . Every 4 months there are sign-ups for it & participants join a group of 4 people. (There are around 20 different groups for the US) Each person in the group chooses a book to read & writes/underlines/annotates the book as they go, then once a month everyone in the group mails to the next person. Then each person adds their own notes ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) & thoughts as they read it & then mails it to the next person on the list. At the end of the 4 months, you end up with your own book back, now with notes from the other 3 group members added to it! It's super fun, but we are getting ready to start a brand new round, so the next sign ups won't be until October for the round starting in November. 4y
See All 6 Comments
TheAromaofBooks @ishan0986 - Also, there are other various book-mailing groups around Litsy, but #LMPBC is probably the most active/has the most participants. Let me know if you have more questions!!! 4y
ishan0986 I told you. You the best when it comes to explanations. Thanks 😊👍🙏 4y

This book was a surprise and a delight! T. Kingfisher is a pseudonym for one of my children‘s favorite authors, Ursula Vernon. I read this because it was self-published, but it also happens to be a lively retelling of a fairy tale (Beauty & the Beast). I loved getting to know the unconventional MC, Bryony who is refreshingly (& literally) down-to-earth as a self-aware gardener. Spoiler: she‘s not a beauty, but she sure is fun. 👇

saresmoore The beast is snarky and appropriately bizarre and the mystery & love story both unravel nicely. There were some moments when I got bogged down by Bryony‘s inner monologue, but the device worked well for such an isolated character. I will certainly be reading more from this author, whatever name she uses. This would be a great pick for #Booked2019 Fairytale Retelling or #ReadHarder Self-published prompts. 5y
saresmoore The author also penned several children‘s book series, including, Hamster Princess, Dragonbreath, and my favorite, (edited) 5y
rubyslippersreads I need to read this. I loved 5y
saresmoore @rubyslippersreads I plan to read that one next. I really think you would love this one. 5y

I am reading through all T. Kingfisher's books at the moment and having the time of my life. Summer In Orcus is a new favorite and man do I need the illustrated special edition in my hot little hands..

She also writes as Ursula Vernon and I NEED her Digger-comics as well, her art and humor is a wondrous thing.

esurient How exciting! She's one of my Dear Favorite authors. 6y
Briary @esurient She really is awesome, and definitely a new favorite author! 😄 I remember her art from my old deviant art days, but had not made the connection until now.. 6y
