Jane Doe: A Novel | Victoria Helen Stone
34 posts | 65 read | 43 to read
A double life with a single purpose: revenge. Jane's days at a Minneapolis insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She's just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes--meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven's bringing out the worst in her. Nothing can distract Jane from going straight for his heart: allowing herself to be seduced into Steven's bed, to insinuate herself into his career and his family, and to expose all his dirty secrets. It's time for Jane to dig out everything that matters to Steven. So she can take it all away. Just as he did to her.

Should I be concerned that I really liked Jane who is a psychopath set on revenge? I couldn't put this book down!

Jane is hiding something, and she‘s set on revenge. She gets a job, working for Steven who is a misogynistic manipulator, and who is also the focus of her revenge. Sweet, sweet revenge. I really thought this book was fun. Jane has her own psychological issues - she‘s not normal, but it is fun to see her plot to take Steven down. Boy, did he deserve it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Triggers: sexual abuse, suicide

In the interest of getting the most out of my Kindle Unlimited subscription before it‘s over at the end of the month, and clearing out my TBR, starting this one next. 📚❤️ I love a good psychological thriller.

#adventrecommends day 15!

This one is a fairly quick, lightish read. It‘s from the POV of a psychopath, so might not be everyone‘s cup of tea, but I found Jane‘s quest to bring down her quarry - the man who abused the only person she ever cared about - satisfying on a deeply visceral level.

I can appreciate what the author was trying to do (write the ultimate in unreliable narrators in an over-the-top story) but it didn't quite work for me. It was missing, I don't know, a certain level of substance?

This book left me with a really yucky feeling.

The main character is a sociopath who is trying to get revenge for her friend. I was thinking it was kind of going to have Girl With the Dragon Tattoo vibes but it wasn‘t like that at all. I guess I really can‘t relate to the main character and I especially hated the ending of her plan.

Fairly predictable story of a sociopath exacting revenge for the death of a friend. Well written and very satisfying to read though, full of disgusting characters that are fun to hate.

I really enjoyed this revenge thriller. It moved really fast and the author did such a good job of developing her characters and showing how terrible they were and deserving of what they got. The story was really entertaining and satisfying!

This thriller was a quick read that kept me on the edge of my seat. While Jane is a lot of crazy, I actually liked her and loved how she handled her revenge. I would hate to be on her bad side!!! I definitely recommend this book and give 4.5⭐️

This book can be read very quickly and is fairly entertaining. It was great fodder for discussion at book club. However, I would stop short of recommending it not because it‘s not good but because there are better books out there.

This was a pretty interesting audiobook... kept me listening straight thru till the end. Main character was a badass, I really liked her. Lots of positive messages against misogyny and against homophobia. At first I felt it was somewhat anticlimactic, but I liked the way the author wrapped things up.

I loved this book, and this may actually be the first unlikeable protaganist I've read whom I actually like! A self-professed sociopath sets out on a plan to revenge the heartbreak and death of her best and possibly only friend.

Definitely a very different kind of book!

I've never enjoyed reading about someone getting their revenge so much! Jane is definitely the anti-heroine that you can't help but cheer for. It was so much fun to watch the dark twists her mind took as she plotted the ruin of the man that took her best friend from her. Man, did she ever succeed. Best Ending Ever!

4.5☆ Be careful. You never know who you may tick off. Jane is a self proclaimed sociopath living a double life. Her best friend Meg dated the smart + devilishly handsome, passive-aggressive abusive Steven, committing suicide after he broke things off w/her. Jane‘s out for REVENGE. Target: Steven. Master manipulator Jane relocates to Minneapolis. To work w/him. Date him. Twisted w/DARK humor + intensity I was hanging off the edge of my seat!! 🖤

Meet self-proclaimed sociopath, Jane who is on a vendetta to avenge her best friend‘s death. She‘s witty, snarky, and cunning in her ability to suss out her prey‘s weaknesses. Relevant and poignant...and on sale for $1.99 on Amazon today!!😍😍😍

Lots of reading being done in my new outdoor, hammock book nook! It's been so cosy and peaceful. Like many, I downloaded this as part of Kindle First in July but it caught my attention being recommended, so bumped it up my TBR. It didn't disappoint. It's not often you find yourself hoping that the sociopath with murder on the mind gets her happy ending, but as Jane's quest for revenge unfolds that's just what you'll wish. A compelling thriller.

rubyslippersreads I‘m just now reading this, but am concerned that something bad will happen to the cat, so I‘m a little afraid to go on. 🙀 6y
