Stars Over Sunset Boulevard | Susan Meissner
13 posts | 17 read | 18 to read
A new novel of Hollywood's Golden Age, told with the dual narrative of the present day. When a hat worn by Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind ends up in Christine McAllister's vintage clothing boutique by mistake, her efforts to return it to its owner take her on a journey more enchanting than any movie. And in 1938, Violet Mayfield goes to Hollywood after her dream of having a family falls apart. There, she meets enigmatic Audrey Duvall, a once-rising film star. Their adventures together among Hollywood's glitterati enthral Violet until each woman's deepest desires collide.

Violet finds friendship with Audrey when they are both working on the set of the filming of Gone with the Wind. This is a cute story that incorporates the history of the movie with the lives of people working in Hollywood during the golden age of film. If you love Gone with the Wind then you will enjoy this book. Frankly, I don‘t give a damn!;)

#Confession I have NOT read ANY of these books...but they sound like they would definitely feature #SunsetBoulevard #OldTimeHollywoodGlam #MelodiousMusicals @CrowCAH Has anyone read any of these titles??? I'm most intrigued by Marlene💕

TrishB Not read any either 😱 7y
rubyslippersreads I've read the tagged book and found it so-so. I'd like to read all the others, though. 7y
Melissa_J I‘ve also not read any of the books pictured. 7y

DivineDiana No, but I would like too! 😉 7y
Reecaspieces Not read any...but LOVE the covers!! 7y
Andrew65 Not read any but whilst researching today's musical and book connections I came across Stars Over Sunset Boulevard and it interested me. One strand of the story seems to be connected to Gone With the Wind and I almost posted the book for #MelodiousMusicals myself. (edited) 7y
DebinHawaii I read and liked this one. Good blend of real life Hollywood characters & events with fictional. 📚👍 7y
AlaMich Those all sound good! I'm sort of partial to olde Hollywood/Los Angeles stories. 7y
Amie Woman Enters Left is good. I think I DNF'd All the Stars in the Heavens. Stars Over Sunset Boulevard is on my TBR. 7y
Cinfhen I agree @AlaMich have you read Evelyn Hugo or 7y
Cinfhen I read her other books but wasn't such a fan @DebinHawaii 7y
Cinfhen @amie I'm hit or miss with both those authors too🙄 7y
Cinfhen I agree @Reecaspieces the covers are all captivating 💘 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Yeah, I have tried a couple of her other books before and couldn't get into them. This one was a like & more successful for me because I love those golden years of Hollywood, my dad was a big Loretta Young fan, & I love Clark Gable so I found it interesting. 7y
CrowCAH Looks some great female stars are featured in those books; haven‘t read any either. 7y
Mdargusch Yes, I am drawn in by the covers too, but now that I read " one strand of the story seems to be connected to GWTW " I am really intrigued! @Cinfhen and @Andrew65 7y
Andrew65 @Mdargusch I thought that might interest some people, especially following the Group Read. 7y
Reviewsbylola I've got Marlene but haven't read it. I read the Trigiani. It was interesting but way too long. 7y
Reviewsbylola Meanwhile I loved The Shormaker's Wife. It's he only other Trigiani I've read. 7y
TNbookworm I enjoyed All the Stars in the Heavens. 7y
Cinfhen This was the sequel to Shoemaker @Reviewsbylola I think I bailed midway... 7y
Reviewsbylola I own that one but haven't read it. 7y
Bostonmomx2 I read the Meissner. All her books are so good (IMO). 7y
Jen_Reads I have All the Stars In the Heavens and haven‘t opened it yet, but it sounds really good. 7y

I was about to start reading this (I've been looking forward to it) when I looked at the back and realized that it is yet another book with a dual timeline. After just finishing two others with this structure and not particularly liking their use of the structure, I think I'll save this for another time 😥

Brought home some historical fiction from the library today. I've never read anything from Susan Meissner, but I can't resist a story about Old Hollywood. Duels and Deception is Cindy Anstey's new book & I just read Love Lies and Spies by her which was fun and sweet.

I might be a little biased since this book happens to be dedicated to me (squee 🎉) but this is an AWESOME book! The story is so unique and engaging, I couldn't put it down. You are swept into Hollywood and the lives of these two friends. Couldn't put it down!

beagle.mama How very, very cool!! 8y

"Why do you love me?" He laughed. "Do we have to have reasons?" "Don't we?" He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "No. We don't. I don't think it's love if there are reasons. Reasons are for why you like someone." #Hollywood

Read an ARC. Love the film set setting. Interesting exploration of a form of adoptive motherhood.
