I would use this book if it aligned with the curriculum and the topic for that week

Thanks to this challenge I've eventually managed to read Wodehouse (I might have read him before in German translation, some of it seemed familiar, but that must have been 30+ years ago).
Now to find a book with less than 225pp. 😁
Went through my physical pile of books and these are the ones I want to focus on for #SeriesLove2023 middle grade and YA edition. A couple of library titles thrown in to complete a couple series. Will I read them all? Nope. Will I stick to the plan? Not likely. Will I have fun? You bet!
Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson is a historical fiction novel that was published in 2008 and is a Scott O‘Dell Award Book winner. It is about a 13-year-old Isabel who is an African American slave trying to fight for her and her sisters freedom during the American Revolutionary War. I think this could be a good novel for higher grades.
My second book read for #BattleOfTheBooks This was much better than the last one, City of Orphans, but this one wasn‘t much more than okay either. I feel like it started off strong and then just gradually died down. The middle felt quite dry and the end was just so abrupt. I will still be reading the next one though. 4⭐️
Trying to get some reading done tonight, but Phil says no.

10/10 must read
Not an easy story to read, but absolutely worth it. Looking forward to reading other works by this author.
I appreciate that this novel offers a nuanced view of the Patriots and Loyalists of the American Revolution, and the author does a good job showing the lack of agency Isabel has as an enslaved young woman, but the novel doesn't completely work for me. The voice of the narrator is inconsistent, and the characters often act in ways that don't make sense to me. Despite the cliffhanger, I'm not inclined to read the next in the series.

This book was a great look at historical fiction during the Revolutionary War. The POV is from a 13 year old, slave with a great story to tell. Ready to finish the sequel, Forge!
Book Outlet order just arrived. I wanted another perspective to add to my childhood copy of Johnny Tremain. I know the author of this trilogy isn‘t African American though.
I can‘t put this book down! Everyone knows about how hard slaves had it but when you get put into their perspective it speaks volumes. #ucfssechains
I was so confused by Madam's decision to sell Ruth out of nowhere, I felt blind sided which i thought was strange how all of a sudden she was being so nice to the girls! I just felt something was going to happen I just did not imagine the worst I guess. #ucfssechains
I'm only on chapter 4 but I love the relationship between Ruth and Isabel and how they will do anything to protect each other. #ucfssechains
I am a few chapters into Chains. Ruth and Isabels relationship is so sweet and it reminds me of me and my siblings. They do whatever it takes to protect me and I‘m grateful for them. I can‘t wait to read more! #ucfssechains
I'm currently in chapter 11 for this book and I felt the beginning was a bit intense. But to see isabel grow and over time. She has over come so much so for in the book. I have loved reading this book and I bought the two other books in this series. I can wait to read them ucfssechains
Currently on chapter 10 of Chains and it‘s been an incredible read so far. I can‘t wait to read what other sacrifices Isabel will make for her and Ruth‘s freedom! #ucfssechains
Isabel is such a great big sister!! will do anything to protect her younger sister Ruth. its so nice to read, as a mother to 3 daughters I hope they will always have each others back and do anything for each other! #ucfssechains
#ucfssechains I am 10 chapters into the book currently and I am so intrigued! I love the sister relationship we get to see between Isabel and Ruth. The way Isabel is so protective over Ruth reminds me of myself and my younger siblings. I'm curious to see how the book progresses with Isabel and Ruth living with the Locktons and her relationship with Curzon.
Can‘t wait to start reading this book!! The brief summary instantly caught my attention and I am so excited to read and find out for myself! #ucfssechains

summary of the novel: This novel is about a slave named Isabel and her difficulties on wanting freedom. She and her sister got stuck in many situations to the point where Ruth Isabel's sister needs to be saved, and had to overcome many challenges with country wars and her harsh masters.
Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson is HF chapter book. It has won the Scott O'Dell Award and was a National Book Award finalist. It is an incredible text that is set during the Revolutionary War and gives readers an insight into Isabel's life and he struggle to find her sister after escaping slavery. This book is part of a trilogy that I hope to read the next 2 books very soon! I would use this book as a IR or LC in my classroom.
This book is so important to teach because it shows a side of history that is rarely shown. It also teaches students how powerful their voices can be.
This is such an important side to a story that is rarely heard. It‘s important to show these to your students to explain how valuable and crucial these stories are and that there are many sides to history. The plot is very interesting and unexpected.

Great book for children to learn about the revolutionary war and what slaves had to endure. Theme that shows the strength and perseverance you have to have when fighting for freedom.
2008, historical fiction. Story of 13 year old girl Isabel during the revolutionary war. She is promised freedom with her sister if their owner dies. End up becoming spaces to a malicious New York couple. Another space encourages her to spy on her new owners.
Like her book Forge, this books is also talking about the fight for freedom. This books takes place as the Revolutionary War begins. This books shows how people‘s lives changed day by day changing from one life to another life as a slave. It displays violence which was a large part to this time back then but can be a lot for younger children. Genre: Historical Fiction; Published: 2008
I think students will really enjoy this book. It is an interesting story about a young girl fighting for her freedom.
