panI did not enjoy this. I don‘t understand the hype and how this was made into a successful tv show. The writing is choppy, clumsy, and a fragmented jumble of thoughts thrown together. I was unable to connect with any of the characters, and that‘s not because I didn‘t understand what was happening. This was not the literary masterpiece I was expecting. The ending made some sense of the writing, but I already made up my mind. Book #64 in 2024

After all it's not an unheard concept that women are considered second hand human beings, whose relevance comes linked to their capacity to procreate; whose right to bodily autonomy, or even to life comes in so many countries after that of an unborn baby. pickMuch tamer than the tv series- I couldn‘t finish it (#delicateflower). Still very disconcerting and worrisome. I didn‘t expect it to end so abruptly and kind of wanted it to continue on. #bookdump2

My beautiful Folio Society edition of The Handmaid‘s Tale. I‘m reading it now, and I‘m blown away! Why did it take me so long to get around to reading this?
pickI am so finally glad to have read this great, powerful and disturbing book. I put it off as I was rather nervous about it. It is certainly a thought provoking story. I liked how it went back and forth to learn how the US government was taken over and to see how Offred's life was before. The ending is really a cliffhanger!! I have The Testaments too, so will read that in July.

panThis books was torture for me. I just barely managed to finish it and that was forcing myself. Then the way it ended, uggggggh!!
pickI have been wanting to read this for SO long and with ‘Testaments‘ coming out tomorrow, I couldn‘t have finished this at a better time. It‘s not a usual read for me and at some points I zoned out. But the storyline and the way it‘s written is so lovely. The ending is a HUGE cliffhanger!!!

so-soWhile I thought it was a good book, it left a lot to be desired. I feel like a lot of “whys” and “how‘s” we‘re left unanswered. Margaret Atwood writes beautiful, but it is a little confusing at times.
pickI finished with more questions than answers. Let‘s just say I‘m happy I didn‘t read this book until now, because I don‘t know how long I‘d be able to wait for the sequel!
