Oh, de Lint, i love your books. Newford is my favorite. Brilliant characters.

In Trader, de Lint takes a trope that's been overused, abused, and ruined by sci-fi, and turns it into a beautiful exploration of identity, agency, and control over one's circumstances.

August #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

Finally drew out the bingo board instead of keeping it on excel (was on vacation and didn't have my notebook).

The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Jones is my #bookspin book and Master and Commander by O'Brian is my#doublespin book. Also have to read Mexican Gothic for book club this month. So i guess I'll aim to read rows two and five

TheAromaofBooks Love it!!! 4y

AllisonM89 @TheAromaofBooks this month of all kinds of weird between vacation, extended school year, etc. I have no idea how much or how little I'm actually going to get to read through. It'll be interesting! 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yes, August is when my fall job at an orchard starts to pick up. Some years I work a lot of hours this month and other years not so many, because it just depends on what fruit is coming on when!!! I'm trying to get as much reading in as I can while I can!! 4y

Would anyone be interested in trading books? I know some of you guys don‘t get rid of your books but I have tons of books that I‘ve read and would love to swap for some on my TBR. I have probably 50-100 books, most new releases. I‘d even be interested in trading for arcs on my TBR. If there‘s any interest in this, let me know. I could even make an email list where we could all swap. Here‘s a picture of #Bran to brighten your day! #catsoflitsy

Erinsuereads I‘m totally interested! 6y
TheDaysGoBy Interested! Though admittedly I have a small collection of books 😂 6y

There‘s too much I want to say about how this passage affected me so deeply. I‘ve been struggling (again) with the fact of being chronically ill. The best medicine has been Charles de Lint‘s #Newford novels, each one a step on the road to acceptance and, hopefully, peace. I love how books are able to do that for us!

This book explores issues of identity when your body has betrayed you through the story of a man who wakes up in a different body.

kamoorephoto Yes! It‘s a feeling of betrayal...that‘s exactly what it is. I‘d give you hugs if I could 💓💓💓💓 6y

Not to sound like kids are on my lawn, but before supernatural detectives and romances swarmed the shelves, #urbanfantasy was about regular folks running into magic on gritty city streets and Charles de Lint is the master of the form.

In this Newford book, reserved Max Trader wakes up in the body of a sleazy guy, who in turn wakes up in Max's body and takes over his life. #WhenSoulMeetsBody

Cool memory in comments:

TobeyTheScavengerMonk When I was a sophomore in high school, this supercool senior girl told me she had bought this book because she had seen me around reading it and that it really helped her figure some things out in her life. 7y

Cinfhen This reminds me of a movie I saw years ago...and props for snagging the attention of the cool senior girl 😍 7y
ArcticDwarf I had to stack it! Sounds exciting! 7y
Reggie So what you're saying is that when the hot young divorcee just retired billionaire tech guy who found out his wife was cheating on him moves next door to the hot but neglected lonely housewife whose beginning hobby of bookblogging needs some serious computer savvy help, that's not urban fantasy? Lol (edited) 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Reggie Haha! I think I meant to add another "supernatural" in there somewhere. If you took your description and made the guy a hot young divorcée just retired VAMPIRE billionaire tech guy then some would call that urban fantasy. I am snooty, and do not. 7y

I missed #headlesscover day of #photoadaynov16 but just came across this one on my shelves...it's a creepy and plot appropriate headlessness vs the odd gratuitous headless girl trend.
These photo challenges are unearthing titles I know I once loved because I kept them around (some culling of the books must take place due to space!) and make me wish life were not only long enough to read all the books, but to #reread all the really good ones!
