Read my first John green in one day while feeling ill on my day off (which isn‘t fair). It‘s odd finally reading a book that‘s such a big part of pop culture - I feel like I already knew so much of it and almost didn‘t have to read it. But if I think about what it would have been like to read before it was such a big deal and if I‘d been younger I‘d have adored it so it‘s a pick.

Scochrane26 Back when John Green was new, my teens at camp often said this was their favorite of his books. 2mo
NovelGirl82 This is my second favorite of his books, and the first one of his that I read. It‘s still an enjoyable re-read for me. 2mo

I really didn‘t like Margo. I didn‘t enjoy the “ride” enough to say I enjoyed the book. I‘ve read others by John Green and enjoyed it... but this one I couldn‘t get into or really enjoy. Hmm now considering if it‘s worth watching the movie...

AkashaVampie aww im sorry you didn't like the book. Maybe the movie will be better for u! 3mo
ElizaMarie @AkashaVampie Haha its okay. I think other people were saying how much the liked to so.. It seems like its one of those “not for everyone“ types of stories.

I can't find an easy way to stream it. So I might end up renting it from YouTube? Maybe I don't know if I will watch it actually. If its super similar to the book I doubt I would enjoy it
3mo
AkashaVampie @ElizaMarie have you checked out the trailer for the movie? Maybe try that first. I can look around to find the cheapest way for u to watch it. 3mo
ElizaMarie @AkashaVampie yeah I saw the trailer. Didn't look bad or anything. But didn't draw me in too much. I will look around to see if I can watch it though. I mean it did peak an interest 3mo

Paper Towns by John Green had a very deep impact on me that I cannot express in words. I didn't expect it to be this different an experience for me. Keeping the story aside, it gave me different readings on life. We could see the world where people had strings. Us as puppets. We can see the world where people are leaves of grass, interconnected yet stranded or as vessels that are cracked and light gets in. A pleasant read it was. #books #life

This book was an alright read. Not as bad as Looking for Alaska, but not as good as The Fault In Our Stars. I enjoyed the ending because it reminded me of my high school boyfriend and how our separation from each other was inevitable all along, even when I couldn't see it. I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it either. It was middle of the road for me.

Some good moments, but this would have been better as a short story. This is my second book by Green and frankly, I just don‘t get the hype. His brother‘s book was far superior.

Oh well, at least this gave me #Indiana (author from)! #ReadingUSA2019

Laughterhp Yeah, I don‘t really like John Green either, but I also don‘t read or like a lot of YA. 5mo

A tl;dr summary of Paper Towns would be this: two kids living in no-one-gives-a-darnsville get their kicks running around doing dumb stuff, until the mysterious unattainable girl runs away and the boy next door (who “loves” her) chases her across the country. Paper Towns is great for teenagers, but will probably grate the nerves of anyone who has already finished high-school. Full review: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/paper-towns-john-green/

Found a quiet little place to read during lunch and it‘s right by the local bookstore so I can run in and see if anything catches my eye for that never ending TBR pile 😏. This book is fascinating to me! It‘s all based in Orlando, which is where I live and have lived my entire life. It‘s interesting to see your entire community in a single book. The kids in the book even go to my high school! && I love John Green 💛

So, I‘m guessing I should not have read Paper Towns right after Looking for Alaska. I could not help but find many similarities between the two. If I disregard those similarities, I must say I enjoyed this book. I really liked the characters, probably more than their journey. The characters are intelligent and witty and have great banter with one another. Their journey is a bit far fetched for high school seniors, even extremely intelligent ones.

I have come to terms with the fact that John Green and I do not work. I read two of his novels, tagged book and Looking for Alaska. Both books clearly indicate I am not his target market.

Andrea313 I feel the same way. I didn't mind The Fault In Our Stars, but I read Looking for Alaska, Turtles All the Way Down, and An Abundance of Katherines and figured that was three strikes for me! 7mo
KatieDid927 Ditto. I didn‘t like Fault in Our Stars either. 7mo
WhatThePuck @Andrea313 I've read all the same and Paper Towns. Something kept nagging me about his books and I couldn't quite figure it out. It took me awhile, but his books are facades and he's only good for one liners. There isn't a lot of depth for the amount of emotion he tries to elicit. IMO. 7mo

Just finished this one and, honestly? It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I'm usually not a fan of John Green, but this one was pretty good. Maybe I'll give the rest of his stuff another shot - would like to see some more diversity in his work, though.

MelissaSue81 Oh that‘s great to hear. I‘ve kind of hated the last couple John green books I‘ve read but picked this one up at a used book sale this weekend, and I thought maybe I was just torturing myself. 10mo
Demeter2112 @MelissaSue81 I feel ya. I've only ever read Looking For Alaska before, and it came off as a... Catcher In The Rye kinda book, in a bad way. I liked this one a lot more, thankfully. 10mo
MelissaSue81 @Demeter2112 - omg! I feel exactly the same way about Looking For Alaska. HATED it. I also read Turtles all the way down which was better, but just not believable. I read Fault in Our Stars ages ago and it was fine but didn‘t live up to the hype for me. 10mo
Demeter2112 @MelissaSue81 I'm glad it's not just me. Lol. It felt kinda pretentious... Good to know about the other books. I haven't read either one - but maybe I'll give The Fault in Our Stars a shot someday. I have a copy, it's just a matter of actually reading it. 10mo
