I didn‘t love it as much as the first book (which I read WAY back in 2016!!) but I will definitely still finish the trilogy!

How are these people still alive and functioning?!? They get badly beaten, mauled, and stabbed and they keep on reappearing with tons of energy to do more terrible things! 😳🤯
There‘s so many asks and no answers in sight. 😔🤷🏽‍♀️

Overall Rating 5⭐ | Narration 😍 = Amazing
While this second book is not as thrilling as the first...it still packs an emotional punch. A fairly brutal one at that. Chocked full of meaningful quotes, the above ones are just a few, mindful reflection, and some subtle and not so subtle brainwashing. This story digs down deep and really gives this series a punch in the gut.

This was decent, though I liked book #1 better. It‘s a trilogy, so onward to book #3! I‘m reading these in preparation for the movie release of Chaos Walking next month!

After an agonizing journey to find salvation in Haven. Todd and a wounded Viola stumble into the hands of their worst enemy, Mayor Prentiss, who has the entire city under his control. Todd and Viola are immediately separated. While Todd is grudgingly growing closer to the sinister mayor every day, Viola is forming an alliance with the secretive Mistress Coyle. (Rest in the comments)

CharlotteCormier When the bombs start falling and the women start revolting the entire city falls into pandemonium. And amongst the chaos, each side is racing to be the first to greet Viola‘s incoming ships in order to determine who will rule the world, the Ask, or the Answer?
If you like books with intense build-up and complex characters with new twists and turns each chapter. Accompanied by an amazing and creative concept, (continued...)

CharlotteCormier ...then I highly recommend this book trilogy for hours of entertainment.

A theme present in this book is how society can easily crumble from fear alone. We see Haven slowly turn into a dystopian dictatorship where they go so far as to placing metal armbands traditionally used for livestock on the women, simply out of fear of the Answer. All freedom has been taken away, accompanied by the new mentality of “guilty until proven innocent”.

Question for my Litsy peeps: Are there any oral histories (fic or nonfic) that you‘d suggest? I loved Daisy Jones and the Six as well as The Only Plane in the Sky. Are there any others you‘ve read/listened to and liked?

sprainedbrain I really liked this one... I think it counts. 😃 (loves Daisy Jones, too) 5y

The first book, The Knife of Never Letting Go, blew me away. This book, the second book, blew me out of this world!
I can't even put into words how much I love this series so far. Patrick Ness is a freaking writing genius.

Another great book from the chaos walking trilogy although it's so frustrating how he does such a good job at leaving a cliff hanger that you feel you have to read the next one asap.

Book 2 of the Chaos Walking trilogy and our heroes Todd and Viola are caught up in a vicious struggle for control of New World. Themes of genocide, slavery, mind control and terrorism underlie a plot which has more twists than Brexit. Ness is superb on conflicted loyalties and the ethics of violence in the service of one's cause, and once again it seems a shame that these have been categorised as YA because they really deserve a wider audience.

Where has this series been hiding my whole life!? After the first book, I didn't think the second would be as good, but it is! 💚

Yes, this book is full of action from the start, but at its core, Ness shows us humanity and how resilient humans can be when facing what seems like impossible odds.

I'm excited to see how this series ends. 📚💙💛

Follows on very well from part 1. I found the end of book 1 frustratingly unsatisfying but this time was more keenly aware that this would not be a satisfying resolution and instead would end on basically an intro to book 3. That said, I enjoyed it thoroughly and couldn't put it down at several points.

This is Margaret Atwood meets Lord of the Flies meets Luke Skywalker, the 2nd part in a trilogy.
It's dystopian fiction and it's what it doesn't explicitly describe that gives it power.
Make no mistake, even though it won a Guardian Children's Award, it's sophisticated and adult themed (without explicit Handmaid's Tale type detail).
I was vetting it for a 10 yr old, who broke down in tears and couldn't finish it.

Classic Ness: great characters, a pacey action packed plot and a cliff hanger ending. Will definitely be reading the final book in this trilogy soon.

The first of this series was the very first audiobook I ever listened to. It‘s taken me several years to get to the second one. Patrick Ness is such a great YA author and Humphrey Bower is possibly my favourite narrator.

Finally I can post #BookMail Pt2 after tech glitches all day! This is Bk2 in the Chaos Walking trilogy by Ness, these 10th anniversary editions are gorgeous with the sprayed edges and black on black embossing. Plus all three are signed personally by the author. Bargain at $12.75AU. The series is set in a dystopian world where everyone can hear what everyone else is thinking & there are no secrets. Until 12yrold Todd discovers a pocket of silence.

This is book 2 in the Chaos Walking Trilogy. Whilst I loved book one I didn‘t enjoy this as much, partially because The chemistry wasn‘t there as much in this one because not much time spent with Todd and Viola together. It did get more exiting towards the end and like with book 1 there was a massive cliffhanger at the end of the book. This does mean I need to progress to book 3 very soon. I do recommend the series & have heard book 3 is worth it!

CarolynM I loved the moral ambiguity of this one. One person's freedom fighter is another's terrorist 7y
Andrew65 @CarolynM It was quite difficult as a result of this to work out who you should be cheering for, in the end decided I couldn‘t cheer for anyone. 7y
CarolynM Exactly 7y
GatheringBooks super well worth it. i enjoyed this entire series. not your usual post-apocalyptic universe, more subtle and multi-layered. and yes to @CarolynM ‘s moral ambiguity. patrick ness is a master at that. 7y

I enjoyed The Ask And The Answer just as much as the first book. I had once again the same reaction to the slang the men use in Todd‘s chapters, which I found mostly highly annoying. That would be my only real complaint though and I still thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. I‘m definitely going to read the third and final book soon now!

Nothing better than a little reading with my favorite reading buddy... Finally continuing the Chaos Walking trilogy! Took me long enough haha. Still find the 'slang' the men use highly annoying (cuz, yer, thru, addishun, instruckshuns etc. etc.) but I'm enjoying the rest of it so far.

This series, gah. I haven't felt so gut-punched since The Hunger Games. I needed a long break after book one but am going right on to book three now, gritting my teeth.

I don't know what I was thinking trying to take a photo of this book in a sunspot. #SullivanCat commandeered the shot within seconds, doing that immediate sleep thing cats do. 🙄
