Yeah definitely not for me. Wasn‘t a fan of the art style or the story. Had a hard time understanding the world and the plot and it just...was a complete miss for me. Really heavy handed with the message of optimism and just left me with a weird feeling. Don‘t care about any of the characters nor do I care about the world. Not going to continue on with this series. #bookspinbingo

Not sure this was as good as I was hoping. Good enough I'll read the next volume to see where the story goes. Maybe it gets more interesting as it goes?

2/5 ⭐ Art was nice but confusing. Characters didn't grow, just changed actions/view to move plot clumsily. Lovely reunion ruined by backstab that made no sense. Flimsy character motivations tried to get around plot holes. Few moments that made me care were blatantly included to strong-arm the reader's emotions. Scantily clad women for no reason. Depiction of optimism in face of horrors just comes off as naivety. Won't continue series. #projectnew

Really beautiful art! A bit heavy on the messaging...ok I get it, hope is important, etc. But I wished for more backstory, specifically on the helms (what do they do?) and the domes (how do they work?) and more world building overall. Will keep reading and see what happens in volume 2.

Starting on these tonight. I‘ve made it through east of west volumes 1-7, Lazarus volumes 1-5, injection volumes 1 & 2, copperhead volume 1, and Locke and key volume 1. I still have some more graphic novels waiting for me too :)

Really pretty graphic novel. It set up an awesome world and a great adventure. Excited to see what comes next.

Really good! I liked the worlds that were set up, and the whole overarching storyline. Since there is a date for when the sun will burn through this planet, parts of this seem pretty realistic. Looking forward to the next two volumes - come on, ILL!

The world of Low is quite cool. A post apocalyptic world where man has fled to undersea domes to escape the violent deterioration of the atmosphere on the surface. It is only a temporary fix, and hopefully someone will discover a distant star which humans can escape to. Unfortunately, this story was just too bleak for me to enjoy.

Oh man. I wanted to like this so badly. But it took me 3 weeks to read it, which doesn't bode well. Firstly, the art is truly beautiful, but often inscrutable, with images fading into themselves and many characters becoming indistinguishable. The first 3 issues dragged for me, but then I got into the last few. Unfortunately the ending didn't leave me wanting more. I think I'll pass on Volume 2.

My new and beautiful apocalyptic graphic novel--set underwater.

The present is the only moment you have control over. It's not what is happening to you as much as how you react to it. These and other studies in optimism against impossible odds are the main themes to be found in Low, my first finished book of the #readathon and a series I definitely plan to continue following in future.

Stel's level of optimism/positive thinking was a bit hoaky and made me roll my eyes a time or two, but I loved the concept and really enjoyed the story overall. The artwork was great, too!

This was pretty good. The art was amazing and the typography on the cover *swoon* graphic designer me is loving it. Eagerly awaiting vol 2 from the library

I can't wait for Vol 2! This vision of the future is so lush and exotic: underwater futuristic eye candy ftw

I loved the art style of this 1st volume, especially all the underwater-scapes with monstrous eels & leviathan and the ships & suits these future humans use. I enjoyed the overall message of hope & persistence, but was put off at times by the story, especially the language & the unnecessarily scantily-clad women. Even in a far-flung future world that didn't ring true for me. Probably won't continue with the series, but don't regret picking this up

I've been so distracted with Pokemon GO and work that I've neglected reading and my Litsy account lately.

Found this in The Strand yesterday, the art reminds me incredibly much of Transistor and has a cool plot line. Hoping it lives up to my expectations! #FridayReads

I loved 'Black Science' so was thrilled to discover another Remender title. Low is set in an undersea world, where the last vestiges of civilisation have retreated to the ocean depths to shield themselves from a dangerously overheated sun. The strengths of Black Science are also found here, with gorgeous art and a real sense of a family in mortal danger. Grim reading in parts, but worth diving into (sorry!).

I seem to be picking up a lot of books with orgies lately. Being a youth librarian, it's nice to read adult stuff for a change but I don't need to see as many group sex scenes as I keep running into, ha! Story was interesting, but the art was inscrutable sometimes.

Timely.

The sun is turning into a red giant, earth's surface is damaged and the remaining humans live on the bottom of the ocean. An underwater post apocalyptic western complete with pirates, kidnappings, sea monsters and family strife. Awesome artwork to boot!

Beautiful art and stellar characters with a high stakes plot. I'm hooked and rooting for the characters to find a way to survive 💙🙌🏼

Can't wait to read volume 2.

Superb sorta made me want to cry a couple times. It's set under water in the distant future because the expanding sun has caused the surface to be to radioactive. The air in the dome the characters live in is becoming toxic over time and unless they find a solution humanity is doomed.

This led me to Stel Caine, the eternal optimist who holds out hope against all odds. A perfect fit for this far-future tale of humanity at its lowest point. A perfect character to examine the notion that it's not what happens in life that defines us, but how we choose deal with it. – Rick Remender

Stunning illustrations and colours throughout this series set in a future in which humans live in the deepest depths of the ocean and the air is running out.
