Revolting Rhymes | Roald Dahl
22 posts | 29 read | 5 to read
I bet you think you know this story. You don't. The real one's much more gory. From Jack in the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears to Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs, wicked beasts, brazen crooks and a ghastly giant star in these hilarious nursery rhymes with BITE! Magic Light Pictures, producers of the Oscar nominated The Gruffalo and Room On The Broom, will produce two half-hour animated films for BBC 1 based on the Revolting Rhymes for Christmas 2016, Roald Dahl's centenary year.

Revolting Rhymes | Roald Dahl

“This famous wicked little tale, should never be put on sale.“ This is a twist on Goldilocks.

I would use this book in my classroom to compare and contrast different versions of stories.

Finished my first book during the 24 hour readathon. Decided to start with a fun Dahl book before getting into some of my more hefty reads. Dahl always makes me laugh. So brilliant. Glad I finally read this one. @DeweysReadathon #readathon #deweyoct #litsylovereads

It is almost time to begin the 24-hour readathon! I'm gonna start it with the tagged Roald Dahl book for fun. Then I'll move on to something in this large tbr pile. Good luck to those participating! @DeweysReadathon #readathon #deweyoct

JamieArc A Suitable Boy was one of the books I read last year for the October Dewey Readathon. Happy reading! 2y
Morr_Books @JamieArc I don't expect that I'll get very far in that one - it is a beast! - but I want to get through at least a few parts...maybe to Part 7. 2y
AmyG Lonesome Dove…. 🙌🏻. Such a wonderful book. (edited) 2y
JamieArc @Morr_Books I ended up making a reading tracker to help me finish it lol. I enjoyed the book, but it is quite massive. 2y

When you are reading one of your favourite childhood books to your 5 year old son and realise things have changed ALOT in the last 30 years! Oh Roald 🤦🏻‍♀️ I‘m assuming they have updated this in later editions??

EdnaC I‘ve so had this experience. 4y

My son asked me to read this as it's one of his favourite shows on TV right now. I'm so glad he links books to his favourite shows. A great way to continue his love of reading. Now my 2 are fast asleep I can read my book. Happy reading all 📖❤️📚 @Jackal121

#FallinginLove with love, is falling for make believe 🎶

Clockwise from top: the beautiful Taschen Edition Brothers Grimm, the fun Wonderful World of Disney/Whitney Houston adaptation (with the incomparable Bernadette Peters as the Wicked Stepmother singing Falling in Love), and the gruesome Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes.

#JamminJune @Eggs

BookmarkTavern Love that Disney adaptation so much! ❤️❤️ 4y

I love Dahl‘s short stories for the adults, but for some reason I wasn‘t interested about his children‘s books ... until now! For #AuthorAMonth I have read three books - James and the Giant Peach⭐️⭐️⭐️ (about very unhappy boy, strange events and creatures), Revolting Rhymes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (six well-known fairytales written in verses, but with Dhal‘s typical twists), and his autobiography for children with the title Boy⭐️⭐️⭐️ I liked all three ...👇

Simona ... of them, but Revolting Rhymes are brilliant! Fairytales for my taste 😘 5y

This strange twist of TL is poetry sure to make anyone laugh. Roald Dahl puts his own spin on 6 classic stories including Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs. The classics are given rhymes and surprise endings to match. Roald Dahl's website provides lesson plans and a reading to use with Revolting Rymes.https://www.roalddahl.com/roald-dahl/stories/p-t/revolting-rhymes

I think this book could be read either choral or shared reading. #ucflae3414su19

DrSpalding Utilizing the author website is wise. In regards to fantasy, you don‘t get much better than Dahl! Use his books as literature circle options as well however they could be used for shared reading too if you had multiple copies or a projector! 5y

From “Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf”

"‘Have you forgot
To tell me what BIG TEETH I've got?
Ah well, no matter what you say,
I'm going to eat you anyway.‘

The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers.
She whips a pistol from her knickers.
She aims it at the creature's head,
And bang bang bang, she shoots him dead.”

This book is super fun and best suited for children slightly older (third or fourth grade). It would be a fun way to introduce poetry to children because it has common stories in it.

This book retells common fairytales in a fun way with a consistent rhyme scheme. The plot is funny and the language is engaging since it rhymes.

bookcollecter Sorry, one more quick question: prompt #22 is eith 6y
bookcollecter Paranormal or PofC or both? As in a paranormal PofC? 6y
Cinfhen Hi @bookcollecter Glad you‘re joining us! Number 18 is a paranormal story featuring a PoC. Sorry if it wasn‘t clear 6y
bookcollecter @Cinfhen thanks for welcome 😁 so a paranormal story with a PoC as Main Character? That's gonna be a tough one.... 6y

I have no idea when this added to Netflix, but if you haven't seen it... watch it! It's hilarious and surprisingly touching/cute! Now, I need to pick up the book.

GarthRanzz I actually have this in my iTunes library to watch. Just have never gotten around to it. 7y
night_shift @GarthRanzz it's very short (around an hour total), but worth it I think! The animation is cute, too! 7y

A poetic take on classic fairytales with some interesting new twists! Great for children, though a little violent. Aren't most fairytales, though? 4/5 stars

These stories are so gory. I read them as a middle schooler and just loved them. Rereading it I wish Dahl chose different words/sentiments in a few places, but it's still delicious.
