Finished the last book of the current #LMPBC round and my first cozy. It was an easy read, predictable (in a good way), and very enjoyable. I loved guessing (accurately) what would happen next. If this is what cozies are like, I will read more. Only one thing that I didn‘t like-The title really had no connection with the story. 3/5 🍄s

Yay! I finished it! This is my selection for #LMPBC Round 10 Group J - historical fiction. It‘s also my #DoubleSpin for November! I chose this book because I really like Rhys Bowen and my son is a chef, and it‘s about Queen Victoria‘s kitchen. Would the relationship between the Queen and the MC, Bella/Helen really be possible? Hmmm... #feastmode #NovelNovember and #24B4Monday What an end to November! And I have 1 more to add!

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 4y

This just worked for me👩‍🍳I loved the time (Victorian London) and the setting ( Palace of Queen Victoria & French Rivera ) and the narration was impeccable 🎧🇬🇧Bella, once a young aristocrat finds her fortunes reversed and is placed into servitude. She comes by a position in the Queen‘s Kitchen by trickery. The attention to detail was wonderful & I enjoyed reading all the delicious food dishes described. Good fun, perhaps far-fetched

Latest mystery read. Although to be fair I‘m more than half way and there‘s no mystery yet...

Bella, from a good family fallen on bad times, is sent into service. She finds her vocation working as a cook in Queen Victoria‘s kitchens - unfortunately under an assumed identity.

I enjoyed the story of a young woman making her way in a man‘s world, & the food focus was fascinating - so much research has gone into it - I want to try chard pie! Unusually for me, I also enjoyed the romance angle & would have liked to have seen that build more👇

rockpools Sadly, I never fully ‘believed‘ in the story - maybe it was trying to be too many things? On several occasions I felt I was suspending disbelief, which threw me off a little. And the ease with which Bella settled into her role, and indeed a new country, didn‘t quite click for me.

However, it has left me wanting to know more about Queen Victoria‘s later life and household - and wanting to visit Nice.

I‘ve been in the mood for a lighter mystery & really enjoyed the first of RB‘s Molly Murphy mysteries, so when #Netgalley emailed about a ‘Read Now‘ ARC, I couldn‘t resist.

Isabella was born into a good family, but with her father‘s drinking & the death of her mother, she‘s forced into service. And winds up as an underchef in Queen Victoria‘s kitchens. The set-up requires suspending disbelief, but now she‘s in post, I think I‘ll enjoy this!

Rhys Bowen‘s new book drops February 2020 and, if you‘re a fan of Queen Victoria and all things Victorian, you may enjoy this novel about a young gentlewoman, Isabella, who falls on hard times and discovers she loves to cook. Assuming a false identity, Bella ends up cooking for the royal household and travels to Nice. Not as funny as the “Her Royal Spyness” series and lacking the depth of “In Fairleigh Field,” it‘s still a fun light read. #arc
