Night School: A Jack Reacher Novel
Night School: A Jack Reacher Novel | Lee Child
Discover the thriller series that "The New York Times "calls utterly addictive. After eleven straight global #1 bestsellers, Lee Child sends readers back to school with the most explosive Jack Reacher novel yet. It s 1996, and Reacher is still in the army. In the morning they give him a medal, and in the afternoon they send him back to school. That night he s off the grid. Out of sight, out of mind. Two other men are in the classroom an FBI agent and a CIA analyst. Each is a first-rate operator, each is fresh off a big win, and each is wondering what the hell they are doing there. Then they find out: A Jihadist sleeper cell in Hamburg, Germany, has received an unexpected visitor a Saudi courier, seeking safe haven while waiting to rendezvous with persons unknown. A CIA asset, undercover inside the cell, has overheard the courier whisper a chilling message: " "The American wants a hundred million dollars. For what? And who from? Reacher and his two new friends are told to find the American. Reacher recruits the best soldier he has ever worked with: Sergeant Frances Neagley. Their mission heats up in more ways than one, while always keeping their eyes on the prize: If they don t get their man, the world will suffer an epic act of terrorism. From Langley to Hamburg, Jalalabad to Kiev, "Night School" moves like a bullet through a treacherous landscape of double crosses, faked identities, and new and terrible enemies, as Reacher maneuvers inside the game and outside the law. Praise for #1 bestselling author Lee Child and his Jack Reacher series "" Reacher [is] one of this century s most original, tantalizing pop-fiction heroes. " The Washington Post""

I found this book a bore which is very unusual as it's set when Jack was in active military service and these ones are my favorites but the actual story line didn't grab me.

It was all desk work, no action.

We all now know that Lee Child had itchy feet with this series. I wouldn't be surprised if this book was being drafted while he was deciding whether to hand over to Andrew Child or to finish it up.

Not up to the usual standard at all.

I‘m a fan of the Jack Reacher series and have been reading the books in order for the past few years. Night School takes us back to 1996 when Reacher was still an MP in the US Army. After receiving a medal, he is immediately sent off to night school where he meets an FBI agent and a CIA analyst. They soon figure out they are not attending a school, but instead being sent on a special mission in Hamburg, Germany. #MountTBR

In this Reacher novel we go back in time Reacher is still in the army and placed on an NSA task force to track down - well no spoilers do you‘ll have to read the book if you want to know. I love these books and this one does not disappoint.

Exactly what you expect from a Jack Reacher book. Maybe a little bit slower than normal, but a quick and easy read that keeps the suspence high enough.

February has turned out to be a very busy month. I'm not even sure why. But I've been doing a lot of reading on my phone so I've been catching up with Jack Reacher which gives me a check on my #mountTBRchallenge for finishing out a series. All but the very last one which still has a long list for holds! @DivaDiane These are so-so books but I enjoy them as pure escapist stories.

DivaDiane Great job! 7y

Hubby is listening to this on his commute. Someone lent us the hardback, so I decided to race him to the end. I win! This isn't the best Reacher ever, but it sure enough kept me turning pages. I read this one wildly out of order, but it's a flashback to Reacher's Army career, and a fun reminder of a pre-internet/cellphone world.

I have a very bad habit of buying books in airports and Lee Child, in an airport on a long layover while transiting is an auto buy. I'm not a fan of the first person novels but this is a solid third person narration & classic Reacher. It's everything you expect from Child - well written, the known cadence, a decent twist and inventive plot. Perfect for a long plane ride or lazy afternoon (& to have purchased books on 3 diff continents in 18hrs 😉)

MrBook Reading it right now. 😎🙌🏻👊🏻 7y
GlassAsDiamonds @MrBook ha!!! Just finished it, well worth it & Neagley, who I love, is also back. 😊😊😊👊🏻 7y

I've read every one of the previous Reacher novels. They're a guilty secret. Pure trash but completely addictive.

Usually I finish a new one in two, three days at most but this one was started at Christmas and left just more than half finished.

I wanted to love it but has Lee Child simply repeated the formula once to often? I'm feeling disloyal to the big man. Tell me if it's worth persisting please.

MrBook I can't get enough of Reacher! Child certainly ran out of material several installments ago, and since he's boxed himself into a corner by creating such a rigid character, there's not much of anything new that can be brought to the proverbial table. Child says that he's purposely made a character who doesn't grow and develop because he's made so that there's nothing to develop. It's a taste thing, like the same music sound/style or food. 7y
MrBook Did that help? Lol 7y
Peterfox123 @MrBook Yes, I think it did. 😊 I've been just like you before, never having enough of Reacher and watching for the release date of the next one. It is, as I think you're saying, a case of wanting more of the same, not something changed. I'll knock Night School off before long. 7y

I can see the reasons that it's been a bestseller for so long, but just not my type of subject matter. The ending was well worth forcing through it though. My first Jack Reacher.. I will try another eventually. ✌🏻

I liked it, but didn't love it. I had a lot of fun, and was engaged throughout. But it was a little bit of a let-down after Make Me. A mediocre Reacher is still better than so many books -- and this was both mediocre and better -- I'm glad I read this, and can't imagine how anyone who likes a suspense/thriller novel wouldn't. Still, Child is capable of more, and I hope he delivers that next time. (my complete take: http://wp.me/p3z9AH-2Dk)

Almost 50% read and I quit. I felt like I was forcing myself to read and that's not what reading should be. Reacher says nothing and a lot of nothing was happening in this latest Reacher novel. I hate to say that I think I'm done with this series. I haven't been able to finish the last 2 out of 3.

Thriller Audio Anything read by Dick Hill will make me happy. Anything Reacher will make me happy. So overall the story made me happy except for the fact I never read the blurb and didn't realize that it was going to be a back story. Once the confusion was cleared up, it was your typical break all the rules and get it done kind of kick ass book. A plot that would have been unraveled by the power of Google and a cell phone. Go 1990s! +
