Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller must defend himself against murder charges in the heart-stopping new thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly. On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln. Haller is immediately charged with murder but can't post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge. Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles. All the while he needs to look over his shoulder--as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail. But the bigger plot is the one against him. Haller knows he's been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one. As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him. Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won't be enough. In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why. That is the law of innocence. In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is "a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch... in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game" (Los Angeles Times).

This novel gets a little bogged down during some of the courtroom stuff in the middle, and the resolution feels a bit slapdash, but overall it's a fun listen. It's cute how Connelly weaves the days leading up to the pandemic shutdown into the story. Gotta say, though, I got a jury summons recently and these courtroom dramas don't help me feel enthusiastic about possibly sitting on a jury. Why must cornerstones of democracy be so mind-numbing?

I really like The Lincoln Lawyer series, and the most recent addition is a fast-paced story of Mickey Haller having to defend himself in a murder trial.

Usual quality crime mystery from one of the all-time greats. Personally as a lawyer I do not at all care for shows, movies or books about the law...I barely tolerate it in real life. So this story basically tracks a trial of a wrongly accused person. Not for me

While I liked this book where Mickey Haller has to defend himself against a murder charge when a body is found in his trunk, I was disappointed in the ending. If you depend on Goodreads for reviews and are interested in this book, read the 1 & 2 star reviews. They are mostly based on the fact that Haller expresses anti-Trump views. They aren‘t based on the writing, the characters, or the story, which, to me, makes those reviews bogus. #audiowalk

Only three hours left in this book — a few long walks should finish it up. The cannon is from a park I haven‘t been to in years but decided to go to today. #audiowalk

KCofKaysville @KathyWheeler It looks like a great place to walk 3y
KathyWheeler @KCofKaysville it is. There are a lot of trails. It‘s also an old Civil War battlefield, so that‘s interesting. 3y

I decided to listen to The Law of Innocence on my walks today instead of Eight Perfect Murders; I‘m not sure why. I‘m used to being taken out of reality with most books, but there‘s a scene in this one where Bosch tells Mickey that there‘s a virus in Wuhan and Mickey hopes it‘ll stay contained. That reference brought me up short, remembering that time when we all had no idea how bad things would get. It was breezy along the water today. #audiowalk

Absolutely not what I should have been reading if I want to meet my end-of-month goals. But I couldn't resist any longer. I tore through this 400+ page book in a little under 24 hours. I just love the Lincoln Lawyer books. I haven't found any other legal thrillers out there that I like as well. In this one Mickey Haller finds himself defending. . . himself.

5 ⭐ for The Law of Innocence.

swishandflick I love these books too! One recommendation I'll make for another awesome legal series: 3y

Another knockout, featuring Haller in his most high-stakes trial to date - because this time it's HIM being tried for murder after the body of a former client is found in his trunk. It was well paced and I loved the dynamics of his team as they all go to bat for him. Even Bosch makes a cameo, investigating on Haller's behalf.

My ONLY gripe is that this means I'm now caught up with all of Connelly's books and at the mercy of new releases 😭

MicheleinPhilly Welcome! It is a frustrating place to be. 😕 3y
Leftcoastzen Oh wow, that‘s amazing! I have only listened to Trunk Music .I think my friend has read all the Bosch books. (edited) 3y
swishandflick @MicheleinPhilly I'm already questioning what to do with my life until the new one is released in November, haha (edited) 3y
swishandflick @Leftcoastzen I highly recommend all of his books! I liked every single one 👏🏽 (edited) 3y

This took me a little bit to get into, but once I did, it was hard to put down. Haller‘s been accused of a crime he didn‘t commit and using his old flair and techniques, he sets out to prove his innocence. Another enjoyable read from the Lincoln Lawyer series.

I love Connelly and everything he puts out- this book is no exception. A well-crafted tale that kept me guessing and trying to figure out who was the mastermind behind it all. While semi-anticlimactic at the end, it sets up the plot of the next story perfectly. Mickey Haller is one of my favorite characters in any book series, and I look forward to what‘s next for him and his crew.

When 🌟Mickey Haller, the 'Lincoln Lawyer' 🌟leaves a party late at night🌙 and is pulled up for a 🚓traffic stop, little did he know that it will turn his life upside down! Accused of murdering an old client and facing the Death row, can he fight his own case and prove his innocence?? 🤔

In this latest entry in the Lincoln Lawyer series, Micky Haller is facing the most important case of his life--defending himself after he's arrested for the murder of a former client. This raised the stakes and made for an incredibly tense read, and courtroom drama at its most gripping. I devoured this one in no time. Interestingly, Connelly sets the story against the backdrop of covid's initial appearance, adding an extra chill of foreshadowing.

The Law Of Innocence follows “the Lincoln Lawyer”, Mickey Haller, through his highest-stakes case yet. Connelly‘s clearly mastered the art of exposition. He manages to swiftly welcome in new readers with enough background to set them up to enjoy the novel, without drowning long-time fans in repetitive detail. I really enjoyed this one! #118 of my year and can I just say that if a new Michael Connelly can‘t pull me out of a depression slump I don‘t know what would! Let‘s see what Haller & Bosch get up to, I love when they work together. Also I‘m listening to Paper Birds (acoustic) Ekko & Sidetrack, Ruth Royall and also Off The Table Ariana Grande & The Weekend I couldn‘t pick which one I loved more so I put both lol 💛

Caffeinated_Reader Holy fuck.
That was a mind fuck. Completely.
Why would you do that to Haller, Connelly? I hope that there isn‘t an alternate universe out there where he actually exists lmao because that was sooo much trial and tribulation for virtually nothing. The scariest thing is defending an innocent person. Connelly nailed it with this one.
4y
Caffeinated_Reader The up‘s were waaay up and the downs were bleak as fuck. My only complaint is that, in my opinion, Bosch would have come up with the winning knowledge of everything FBI related waaay before it actually came about. 4y
Caffeinated_Reader Although for all we know, Bosch could have been the one to slide the report under the door, or he could have been the one to persuade Ruth to. Either way this was another brilliant telling. I truly hope shit works out between Haller and mcfeirce! (edited) 4y
