Penny wise or pound foolish? A heartbroken young Brit decides to turn his love life over to the flip of a coinin this delightfully British rom-com in the vein of Jenny Colgan, Rosie Curtis, Nick Hornby, and David Nicholls. To coin a phrase, Josh is suffering a quarter-life crisis. He just broke up with his long-term girlfriend, lost his job, and moved back home with his parents (shudder). Welcome to rock bottom in Bristol. As Josh starts questioning all his life choices, he has a mad thought: Maybe he would just be better flipping a coin. After all, careful planning has landed him homeless, jobless, and single. What starts as a joke soon becomes serious and Josh decides to start putting his faith in the capriciousness of currency. He doesnt have anything to lose. But when the chance of a lifetime and the girl of his dreams are on the line, will the coin guide him to a rich love life or leave him flat broke?

After concluding his decisions have gotten him nowhere, Josh decides to flip a coin for a year rather than trusting himself. Funny and sweet.

I got some.book mail! Very excited to dive into these books. Book mail is the best mail.

Currently Read The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It is excellent. Horrifying. But excellent.

BarbaraBB When you have finished Telephone (I loved it) you should read the discussion following @Cinfhen ‘s review about it. Don‘t do it before you‘re finished though! 4y
rsteve388 @BarbaraBB That's good to know. Ill probably read it next weekend 4y
Cinfhen Spoilers galore!!!! But definitely check it out after reading 😁 4y

3.4 🌼

Josh's proposal was rejected by his girlfriend, he lost his job and his apartment. He's so fed up with all his wrong decisions, and he decided to flip a coin for every decision he made in a year.

Reading The Flip Side is hilarious, and I literally gritting my teeth over each disastrous decisions made by the coin. A cute rom-com and a light read, a very enjoyable read for me.

TheAromaofBooks I read this one this month, too!! It was pretty fun & fluffy - I enjoyed a romcom where the main character was the guy!! 4y
Weisubei Yes!! It's quite hilarious 😄, any recommendation for romcom books? I'm trying to read more diverse book 4y

How did I pick this out of a random stack of library books and it's another #Josh main character?! I feel like these romance writers have some inside joke that I'm not aware of.

How cute was this book?? I loved it! First off, I was way into a romcom from the guy's POV!! I think we've all suffered from decision-making paralysis, feeling overwhelmed by the hundreds of choices we make every day. When Josh ends up single, jobless, & back in his parents' house, he decides he would just as soon leave his choices to date & starts flipping a coin to make every decision. Overall this book was fun & fluffy. It had some pacing ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) issues at times & there was a weird thing where he hitches a ride with someone named Jesus & sort of turns it into this whole “God is on my side“ thing that felt a smidge sacrilegious to me, but on the whole I really enjoyed this one & will be keeping an eye out for what Bailey may write next.

Special thanks to @Cupcake12 as this was from her #NewYearWhoDis list - I'm planning to read one book from her list each month!! @monalyisha

TheAromaofBooks PS One of the characters said she NEVER FINISHES A BOOK because she prefers to leave the characters she has grown to love with infinite possibilities. Is this girl insane?!?! 4y
kimmypete1 @TheAromaofBooks Why even read if that's what you're going to do! *Shudder* 4y

#BookReport - Made good progress this week. Enjoyed the Broken Earth trilogy, but it was also pretty down so I wasn't exactly sorry to see it end, either lol Devil's Cub was delightful Heyer frivolity, Active Defense was an engaging thriller, & I'm about halfway through The Flip Side, my first read for #NewYearWhoDis & it's so fun!

If I want to hit my page goal for #AnyWayYouReadathon, I need to finish The Flip Side, Brazil, & Ways to Disappear ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) by the end of Sunday, so a lot of reading to get into. Just need to convince my husband that reading is more important than working on our current construction project 😂

TheAromaofBooks @kimmypete1 @MidnightBookGirl - It's slightly ridiculous but not too far at this point haha And it's fun to read a romcom from the guy's perspective. 4y
Cinfhen Two Brazil books!!! Impressive #OverAchiever 😜😘 4y
Cinfhen Wow!!!! You read ALL THREE NKJ books....I called it last time...#TeachersPet xxxxx 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - I know, right? I even get excited about fake school 😂 I thought it would be fun to read one nonfiction & one fiction for each country in #foodandlit but we will see if I keep it up through the whole year haha Broken Earth trilogy was already on my TBR so it was actually kind of fun to get it checked off with bonus points!! 4y

About 30% into this, seriously this coin-flipping business for every single decision for a year is getting disastrous!!! ??

"If Russian roulette is dangerous, tossing a coin to decide who to match with on Tinder is deadly. I‘m only one flip of the coin away from being tied up in someone‘s basement and used as a sex slave."

Today's library holds are already for 2021 challenges!! A Brazil travel guide for #FoodandLit, the tagged book for #NewYearWhoDis, and a series by January's #AuthoraMonth that has been on my TBR forever. I've got my bujo all set up and am getting excited!!!

@Soubhiville @Butterfinger @Texreader @Cupcake12 @monalyisha

TheKidUpstairs I LOVED The Broken Earth trilogy, I hope you do too! 4y
Addison_Reads I haven't read The Broken Earth trilogy yet, but I have her Inheritance Trilogy as an ebook, which I've owned for far too long. That's the one I'm hoping to finally read in January. I'm excited for your reviews. 😀 4y
alisiakae My Brazil book hold just came in at the library too! Since the library will be closed from the 24-28, I'm going to pick it up closer to NYE. 4y

TheAromaofBooks @TheKidUpstairs @Addison_Reads - this series has been on my TBR so long that I don't even know how it got there 😂 But when I reread the synopsis I got excited all over again! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @4thhouseontheleft - I'm hoping to read one fiction & one nonfiction book for each country this year. I looked up a few different fiction possibilities but this was the only one my library had. It's on the move so hopefully it will be here next week!! Our library is usually closed between Christmas & New Year's but I think because they are already at low staff (pick up only, no in-building service) they decided to stay open. 4y
Butterfinger @TheAromaofBooks @4thhouseontheleft I am so glad you both found books. My heart is full 💕. 4y
Soubhiville That‘s great! 4y
alisiakae @Butterfinger @TheAromaofBooks I also plan on reading some articles to freshen my memory on Brazilian history, politics and culture! I‘ll post them in Jan as I read them. And I do plan on digging out my pics from Salvador and Bahia over winter break! As well as possibly asking my Brazilian next door neighbor to share a recipe or two. ☺️ 4y
TheAromaofBooks @4thhouseontheleft - ooo yes that all sounds great!! My little travel guide has some overview chapters - I was struggling to find an “overview“ kind of book that wasn't, you know, 700 pages long 😂 @Butterfinger 4y
Lucy_Anywhere The Fifth Season is excellent! 4y
Cupcake12 I really liked “The Flip Side” Hope you like it too x 4y
ChasingOm A travel book is a brilliant idea! I miss planning trips. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Lucy_Anywhere - I'm excited to read the trilogy - it synopsis sounds fantastic!! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Cupcake12 - My goal is to read one of the books from your list each month, so this is the first one up - it sounds adorable!!! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ChasingOm - Right?? I love planning trips, even ones I'm not taking haha I'm hoping this one gives me some overviews of the history, geography, and politics of the country as well as points of interest and information about food and cultural icons. 4y
