COVID-19: What you need to know about the coronavirus and the race for the vaccine | Michael Mosley
9 posts
Australia and New Zealand edition From award-winning science journalist Dr Michael Mosley: The story of COVID-19, the greatest public health threat of our time ... This book charts the trajectory of a novel virus, from its emergence in China at the end of 2019 to its rapid worldwide spread. Based on the latest scientific discoveries, Dr Mosley provides a fascinating and detailed understanding of the secrets of this coronavirus, how it spreads, how it infects your body and how your immune system tries to fight back. With access to leading experts, he reports on the battle to find treatments and a safe and effective vaccine (ultimately, the only way to defeat the virus). Armed with the facts about COVID-19 youll be in a better position to protect yourself and your family as the world begins to reopen. Eating well, sleeping soundly, exercising and managing stress are all vital for keeping your body and immune system in the best possible shape to fight the virus. These are areas where Dr Mosley, creator of the 5:2 diet, is well known for his science-based and practical approach. This is an incredibly readable summary of the latest research. A magical mixture of scientific realism and reasoned hope. Dr Mathew Vadas, Professor of Medicine and leading immunologist, Centenary Institute and University of Sydney

Well. I guess it‘s my “turn” to get the COVID. Hubby tested positive Tuesday, I tested positive today. (We both have had some symptoms since Wednesday — nothing horrible). I‘m double boosted. He has only had one booster so far.

My son woke up this morning not feeling well and then he couldn‘t smell nor taste (I had him try vinegar and he said it was water) my husband took him to get tested around 4 my time 5.5 hours ago so now we are just waiting on results but we are pretty sure he‘s gonna be positive. I‘ve been sick all of 2022 and now the kid, I‘m ready to hibernate and everything be okay again!!

TheRiehlDeal Hope your son feels better soon! 🤞 And it seems like everyone is starting to catch Covid, especially with the omicron variant. My dad tested positive along with my neighbor, his brother who lives in Rhode Island, a former coworker of my dad‘s, and his two bosses. I just want this to be over soon. 3y

One shot in. I luckily didn‘t seem to have any allergic reaction to the vaccine so far. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Luckily I don‘t have to work, so I can sleep as much as possible tomorrow.

Since my health insurance kicks in tomorrow, I‘m going to get my vaccine after work. Dose #1
My second dose is already scheduled for 30 June, so I‘ll be free as a bird by my birthday. Yay me.

Bookwomble Do you have to pay for vaccinations in the USA? 😯 3y
GingerAntics @Bookwomble luckily not, but since I have a history of allergic reactions (including a family history of stroke from a flu shot), I needed to make sure I could go to hospital if need be without going into debt. 3y
Bookwomble @GingerAntics The free availability is good to hear. I understand why you'd want to wait for coverage before getting your vaccination. I hope you have no side effects 💗 3y

I‘ll be getting a J&J shot this time tomorrow! Everyone I know who has been vaccinated got Pfizer or Moderna, so J&J Littens, how‘d it go? Any side effects?

(I‘m in no rush to be social, but I‘m glad that we‘re moving forward. It‘s nice to have hope again!)

vivastory Congrats 👏🎉 4y
Trashcanman Awesome, I get my second Moderna on Thursday 4y
Liz_M First of all, congrats! I'm glad to see NJ is working through the population getting people vaccinated. A co-worker (mid-to-late 30s) got a J&J vaccination last week and was completely side-lined by side effects for a day. She described it as not sleeping it off, but felt as if she blacked out. She was still feeling off a a day or two later. 4y

SamAnne It feels so good to be vaccinated. Luckily I live in a place with good access to vaccines as was able to get my first a month ago ahead of schedule. I‘m a Moderna Girl! 4y
ncsufoxes My sisters & BIL all got the J&J vaccine. My BIL had no side effects, one sister had chills, the other sister had a slight fever & tired. They both only had symptoms for about 24 hours 4y
