Sting | Sandra Brown
"#1 "New York Times" and "USA Today" bestselling author Sandra Brown jolts the reader from the first page of this heart-pounding story of corruption, treachery, and ceaseless deception . . . where nothing is what it seems and every truth brought to light exposes a darker lie." When Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard lock eyes across a disreputable backwater bar, something definitely sparks. Shaw gives off a dangerous vibe that makes men wary and inspires women to sit up and take notice. None feel that undercurrent more strongly than savvy businesswoman Jordie, who doesn't belong in a seedy dive on the banks of a bayou. But here she is . . . and Shaw Kinnard is here to kill her. As Shaw and his partner take aim, Jordie is certain her time has come. But Shaw has other plans and abducts Jordie, hoping to get his hands on the $30 million her brother has stolen and, presumably, hidden. However, Shaw is not the only one looking for the fortune. Her brother's ruthless boss and the FBI are after it as well. Now on the run from the feds and a notorious criminal, Jordie and Shaw must rely on their wits-and each other-to stay alive. Miles away from civilization and surrounded by swampland, the two play each other against their common enemies. Jordie's only chance of survival is to outwit Shaw, but it soon becomes clear to Shaw that Jordie isn't entirely trustworthy, either. Was she in on her brother's scam, or is she an innocent pawn in a deadly vendetta? And just how valuable is her life to Shaw, her remorseless and manipulative captor? Burning for answers-and for each other-this unlikely pair ultimately make a desperate move that could be their last. With nonstop plot twists and the tantalizing sexual tension that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best-loved authors, STING will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the final pages.

Similar to her other books, Brown creates a world filled with suspense, conflict, tumultos situations and a little bit of lust. Bad boy Shaw kinnard is an undercover FBI agent who “kidnaps” Jordie Bennet in one of his cases. Jordie is connected to her brother who helped mobster Billy Panella embezzle millions from innocent people. Hickman and Wiley are local cops who are the backbone of the case and characters. Justice vs sibling relationship

I really liked Brown's Thick as Thieves but this crime thriller not so much. It uses the old idea of a woman being irresistibly attracted to a man who kidnaps and bullies her. I find this idea unrealistic and unrelatable. As this book spends a lot of time on the sexual tension between those people as compared to the whole missing thief/missing money/murder mystery, it was disappointing. Finished but wish I had bailed.

Pretty good! I wasn't totally engaged the whole way through (but that could have also been because I was distracted while traveling, etc.). There were some twists I didn't see coming, so overall a solid mystery (though honestly parts of the "romance" felt a bit misplaced).

This was a pretty good mystery I guess. Its still not my favorite genre to read. # 3 on my bingo card, and better yet, it's another one off my tbr pile! Always a cause for celebration! 😅

Once I got to 100pgs, I couldn't put it down.
Jodie is kidnapped outside a bar once she surprises the two hit for hire men, that have been following her to kill her.
Shaw Kinnard who wants her to himself for more money, kills the other guy, and takes Jordie to a garage, waiting to hear if the man that wants Jodie dead will pay 2 million instead of the lousy 200,000 he originally was willing to give.

My cat I have had since the day she was born in my house 13 yrs ago. Lately she enjoys sleeping beside me while I read. Never has she ever done that before, liking to be by herself. I just love her so much.

I don‘t know if it‘s me, winter, a severe case of cabin fever, me being super picky, or the book. But...ugh. I just never got into it. There was no real chemistry between the two main characters, I didn‘t understand what happened at the end, there were unanswered questions, and...it just wasn‘t for me. #february2019

I‘m not sure about a romantic suspense which begins with the main male character kidnapping and terrorizing the main female character...😬 I shouldn‘t act surprised, after all I did read the blurb and I‘ve read other books by Brown. But now that I‘ve started it, I‘m regretting buying it. #february2019

I like Sandra Brown novels. This one for me was okay, but not among her best. I can‘t really put my finger on what about it didn‘t make it great, but it has to do with consistency within the characters and the storyline. The plot was pretty twisted, and I found myself wondering if I went back and read it again knowing how it played out, if I‘d find holes in it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars for me.

Grabbed this off of my shelf to read next. A bargain book purchase from a while ago. Sandra Brown is usually good for some quick reading suspense. 👍🏻😊📚

What a roller coaster ride....each chapter took the story in an unexpected direction, which made me turn pages at a fast rate. Sting is a thriller, it‘s a romance, it‘s a mystery, it has family drama, it has sexual tension, and the ending is like ‘WHAT‘. It‘s one helluva book!

I don't know why it's a NYTimes bestseller. It's so cliche. But if America likes that sort of thing...

Jodie is the type of girl who wouldn't just be in a clique, she would be its leader. This is one of the few Sandra Brown books I did not like. I'm a little annoyed I forgot until I realized I was wanting Seeing Red. #backtoreading. #thosepeskycliques

#TBRtemptation post! New into the library and just processed by me, Sandra Brown's (I think) latest work. How apropos after reading "Envy", the first book of hers that I've read. This book seems to tense and hard-driving with lots of twists and turns as Jordie--being held hostage for her brother's $30 million--may not be as she seems to her abductor. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

Magdawrites @MrBook ha! Keep me posted if you like it! Would love to try another one of Mrs Brown! 8y

The romantic relationship aspect of this story was high on the unbelievable scale & the heroine is TSTL on multiple occasions. There are also consent issues & safe sex issues. The last half of the book made me equal parts mad and incredulous.

Thought I would show something different. This is just one of the many shelves used to house the Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS) collection. There are 2 service centers in the state that handle ALL TBBS service in Illinois. TBBS is a FREE national service offered to anyone in the US who is blind and visually impaired. Sandra Brown is a go-to author for me. Her plots are just plain crazy and it's always a pleasure to simply escape in her wild and imaginative stories. Sting was a good one, not her greatest, but it was still immensely engrossing and entertaining. I don't know where she comes up with her stories, twists and turns, but I love every minute of them.

So now the idiot is helping her kidnapper instead of running far away. It better get better. I can not stand air head female characters.

Christy2318 This book made me crazy. She is totally TSTL & the consent and safe sex issues really irked me too. On top of that how does someone who got stabbed in the abdomen & has a bazillion stitches have sex three times in one night? 8y
LibrarianRyan @Christy2318 😁 exactly. Took me for ever to finish. If I wasn't reviewing it for the publisher I probably would not have finished it. 8y
