Overall a pick for me. I've always enjoyed Fiona Davis' books because she goes into the history of each building she writes about. And there's always a mystery to boot. But I do wish the author would “show“ more than “tell“ in her books. Her writing is a bit stiff. Maybe if this was written in first person it would be better.

Mirrorland | Carole Johnstone

Panpan

I honestly almost gave up on this book several times. I was so confused on what was real and what was the make-believe world. Pirates? Not really my thing, but ok. The second half was better and made things a little clearer regarding what happened during the twins' childhood and why Mirrorland existed. Overall, not a very satisfying read, but thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity.

Emily St. John Mandel came to speak at our #onecityonebook event. She was delightful to listen to. Here she is signing my copy of Station Eleven. No, there will not be a sequel and yes, a tv series is in preproduction.

Luv2readbookz @Reviewsbylola @WhatThePuck @Cinfhen @Megabooks @LauraJ @charl08 Another tidbit- her next book will have Miranda‘s character in it. And she‘s looking into having Station Eleven (in the book) made into a real Graphic novel. That would be awesome! I‘m bummed about no sequel though. 6y

I had high hopes for this one. It started out promising; the first few chapters were like the Handmaids Tale. Then it went downhill after that. None of the characters were very likable and the plot was thin.

Guildedearlobe I had this one on my list for audio but I‘ve heard a few less than stellar reviews and I have to to be a bit more stingy with my reading time since I don‘t get as much as I used to. I may still try it but it‘s on the “maybe if nothing else seems good” list. 6y

I loved this book! In the 1800s West, Jess was raised by her father and brother. As a teenager her brother leaves. After her father dies Jess decides to leave her home and search for her brother. In order to travel alone she must dress as a man. She had been taught to shoot when she was young, so she is hired as a sharpshooter for the authorities trying to find her outlaw brother. Great book- highly recommend! #wildwest #arc #netgalley

catsuit_mango How are you using it? Do you just put in books and estimated time of reading? How about the to read someday list? And what do the colors mean? 6y
Luv2readbookz @catsuit_mango First I set up a list by month. Each book is on it‘s own “card.” Then I add the books I‘m currently reading. When I finish I use the due date just to record the date. You could make a list of TBR cards and then move them over to the months you read them if you want. The colors are labels you can assign. I made one color for fiction, one for nonfiction, one for book club, one for arc, etc. 6y

Friend, you must read this thriller! A newlywed couple is invited to join the Pact. They think it‘s all fun and games until they break some of the rules because they didn‘t read “The Manual.” Some of the punishments are really out there and extreme. I really liked the two main characters, Jake and Alice - and the book is told from Jake‘s POV which is refreshing.

I really enjoyed this novel. It resembles a time-travel story, but it‘s not. Tom has a rare disease that allows him to age only one year to a normal person‘s 15. So that means he‘s over 400 years old. I loved the flashbacks to Shakespeare‘s time as well as his stint with Captain Cook. It‘s a very different type of book - historical fiction, science fiction, romance, and mystery rolled into one. #arc #netgalley
