OH MY STARS! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🫢🫢🫢🫢👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was my reaction to the ending of this book! While the journey felt long & drawn out, it came together. I didn‘t understand the need for one of the view points until a certain point & then it all made sense!

I was so excited to read this book & jump back into the story! It did not disappoint. I wish I had a recording of my reaction when everything fell into place! Highly recommend!

Книги не дають відповідей. Вони змушують ставити глибші запитання.

Books don‘t give answers. They make you ask better questions.

AllDebooks Cox did make me lol. Kill or cure 😅 5mo
Bookwormjillk I have to re-read this chapter. I read it right after I finished a different book and don't remember a bit of it. 5mo

eeclayton I love whenever Mrs Goodenough is mentioned. What a brilliant name 😁 5mo
BarkingMadRead @eeclayton it gives me a giggle every time 5mo
Clare-Dragonfly Hmm. Doesn‘t seem that Mr. Gibson is marrying Clare. But it seems he fears Molly wants to marry one of his apprentices… 5mo
Cuilin Some pretty privilege for Dr. Gibson, allowed into society as handsome as he is and some ginger slander I noticed. Appearances and accents were everything then. 5mo
Lcsmcat I laughed out loud at the line “He had not an ounce of superfluous flesh on his bones; and leanness goes a great way to gentility.” 5mo
Bklover @Bookwormjillk That‘s happened to me; it‘s like when you drive somewhere and don‘t remember the driving part at all 😂😂 5mo

Most of the lead characters in this novel are terrible people and I wanted to throw them all over a cliff at different points. But of course I knew what I was getting into after the first book, and I still wanted to see where these authors were taking us. Only a pick if you like reading about terrible people and people who make dumb decisions. Apparently I do.

Ch 14: church, this reminded me of the second episode of LHOTP where the Rev lectures the wives because the husbands stayed home 🤣 #godunderstandsfarmers #somanycustoms #notmuchchanges #poormissellison #ripmarley #hashtagbrigade

TheBookHippie Can you remove me from the lists please. Thanks. 10mo

AllDebooks Poor Marley, that was sad 😔 10mo
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie for this book or the #hashtagbrigade as well? 10mo
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead For all of it thanks. 10mo
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie we will miss you! 10mo
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead sorry too much going on here!!! If I can pop back in I‘ll let you know. 10mo
TheAromaofBooks I love Laura going to the “weird“ church service just for something to do 😂 10mo
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks me too. Actually I like this book whenever Laura is mentioned, then it feels like a story and less like an accounting 10mo
willaful @mcctrish Yes, that helps. 10mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish you are so right 10mo
dabbe @mcctrish Bam! That's the word for this book. It's an ACCOUNTING of every single aspect of daily life. I'm close to saying #uhCOUNTmeout! 😂 10mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk what really funny is I did my reading at school today during silent reading time. I have this and my Sunday Buddy Read on my kindle and I decided I‘d knock my chapter off using the kindle app on my phone. But it was queued up to Grand Hotel and I was so perplexed as to where the German dancer came from and who was he backing into a corner 10mo
mcctrish @dabbe I mean, it certainly is a glimpse into a day in the life but my god it‘s dry as toast 10mo
TheAromaofBooks @mcctrish - It's true!! I honestly can't decide whether or not I like this book!? But I love the more personal glimpses we get with Laura's opinions/thoughts/actions vs. the overview. 10mo
KAO I found it remarkable that there was a lot to say about the role of church (including the rector‘s practices outside of services) in this hamlet. Nowhere near this amount of detail was given about school! Then again, the actual church building was often located at the center of a village (or is that true only in Germany, Austria, and other European countries where I‘ve seen it so often?). I can imagine how the church was figuratively central too. 10mo
KAO I do agree that my interest is sparked when I get a glimpse of Laura or Edmund‘s behaviors! Or of particular background stories on occasionally introduced characters. Poor Rev. Marley! 10mo

Mehso-so

I must have had FOMO seeing everyone reading this, I don‘t know what compelled me to even place a library hold for this.. I hated the first book. Not shockingly, I didn‘t love this BUT it was better. The chapters rotate POVs, so I only had to deal with insufferable Amber intermittently, but Daph‘s problems were so much her own doing (talk to your kids!) & the side plots got a bit over the top.

Although not as good as the first of this series this book definitely has a satisfying ending. All the old characters are back Jackson, Amber, Daphne and we are introduced to a new one Daisy Mae. They all become intertwined into one happy ending haha. Well happy for some 😉 Sometimes a book doesn‘t have to tie up loose ends but I think this second novel is justified in that aspect.

Just as twisty as the first one and I was here for it!! Loved every minute I spent in the messed up world of Baileys Harbor!
