#JumpScares aren't easy to do in books, but these titles all surprised me while reading in ways I didn't expect.

1. The Liminal Zone- this was my first Junji Ito, and he is a master of the horror manga.
2. Salem's Lot- the kid at the window has always freaked me out! A great read.
3. Night Film- this dark, twisted read will keep you on edge and have your heart pounding as it unravels.
4. Dead Silence- you never know what's around the corner. ⬇️

Addison_Reads 5. How to Sell a Haunted House- taxidermy squirrels! I was caught so off-guard by that scene. 😁 #HauntedShelf @PuddleJumper #HexesandCrows @Catsandbooks #BookRecommendations 3mo

Bk6 of Octobers #BookMail is my first ever manga. The first I‘ve ever owned that reads from right to left. And it‘s a very disturbing looking edition as well. A collection of horror, it starts with the story of a couple who encounter a “weeping woman”, a professional mourner sobbing inconsolably at a funeral. After, the wife, Mako, cannot stop crying. Next, a couple enter the suicide forest to die together & encounter an otherworldly torrent.

#Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub @Clwojick

This is my first horror Manga and I was blown away!

It contains 4 different stories, with my favorites being Weeping Woman Way and Slumber. The artwork was beautifully terrifying and matched the writing perfectly.

I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Clwojick Ooooh looks stunning 1y
Reggie I loved Weeping Woman Way! All the tears. 1y

I love Ito and his brain. He has such a way of making you creep out a bit and feel ... just yeah. I don't know how to describe it. But these short stories were great :)

I love Ito, and thought, well, might as well start this one during the parade, dog show, and, you know, other Thanksgiving things. Also, it was just too pretty not to pick up. #NotAnotherGraphicMonday

This was so creeptastic! Junji Ito delivers 4 tales that are the perfect marriage of story and artwork. I really enjoyed Weeping Woman Way and Madonna. Those two not only got under my skin but made my horror heart so happy. Pick!

vivastory I placed a hold on this. Did you read his last collection of earlier work? I loved it 2y
Reggie @vivastory I haven‘t. I‘ve only read one other collection of his. I have his spiral one which I need to get to. 2y
vivastory @Reggie For some reason I could have sworn I read that one but it's not showing up on my GR...I know that I've looked through a good portion of it & what I saw def stuck with me 2y

vivastory Reggie, I watched an insane movie tonight that I think you'd appreciate. Have you seen the 2014 Austrian version of Goodnight Mommy? 2y
Reggie @vivastory I have not. Is it also called Goodnight Mommy? 2y
Reggie Nvm Found it and it‘s on Tubi!!! Yayy. I‘ll check it out 2y
vivastory Tag me when you finish! I need to discuss it with someone 🤣 2y
Reggie @vivastory I am in to Goodnight Mummy and I had to come back 13 minutes in to give some thoughts. The corn and the hard top of the mud I feel is gonna come back later. Also, is Lukas imaginary or the dead son cause she‘s not acknowledging him at all. And what a creepy pic above the sofa. And the dolls behind her. Alright, be back after the movie. 2y
Reggie Lolol oh ‘‘em gee that was disturbing. Did the mom deserve that? Jesus. 2y
vivastory 😂So, my question to you is...we find out at the end that Lukas is dead, but I'm not sure that doesn't exclude the possibility that he was right about his mom being replaced. On the one hand it seems like as a child, Elias wouldn't fully understand the trauma his mom went through & that much suffering really would change someone. But there were certain shots in the movie that are hard to explain away.... (edited) 2y
Reggie I think she was his mom but she had no room with her trauma for his trauma. And not that she deserves to die by fire but she was doing herself no favors slapping him around making him say stuff. And then when he shows her the video in the phone. 2y
Reggie And the fact that she locked him in his room so long he had to pee in some receptacle. I also think the movie was an indictment against the Catholic Church and how their priests continue to fail little boys. Lolol 2y
Reggie Sorry about that last joke. 2y
vivastory @Reggie There was a lot of religious symbolism in it. I do mostly agree that this was a delusion on Elias' part that his mother had been replaced, as a method for him to 1) cope with her changes after the trauma 2) ignore his own grief over the death of Elias. Yet, I love how there is just enough ambiguity to unsettle the story. I also love how it upends the victim/prey narrative & a lot of sympathy is gained for someone we don't have much at the 2y
vivastory (cont) beg of the movie. I watched another movie recently that pulled a similar trick & I thought it was very well done: The Lodge (featuring Richard Armitage, Alicia Silverstone & Jaeden Martell) 2y
Reggie I feel like the mother should have let his coping mechanism play out. Have you ever seen Lars and the Real Girl where Ryan Gosling has a girlfriend who is a mannequin and the therapist tells the brother he should play along until the mannequin is no longer needed. And the whole town plays along. It‘s fantastic. 2y

Um, who can take crying and make it into a horrific graphic story masterpiece? Junji Ito, that‘s who. This whole story was bonkers. And it‘s just the first story in the collection. Pumped for the rest.

vivastory This pic reminds me of Cronenberg's Scanners, which I watched for the first time last night. Incredible. 2y
Reggie @vivastory so I was pretty sure I had seen scanners 2 when I was a kid and just for kicks I watched all the trailers for all 3 parts and what a ride. Lol I‘m gonna have to go check out Scanners 1. 2y
vivastory I was fairly sure I'd seen it, esp since Cronenberg is a favorite, but I hadn't. 2y
