The Rope
The Rope: An Anna Pigeon Novel | Nevada Barr
22 posts | 14 read | 10 to read
Anna Pigeon's first casethis is the story her fans have been clamoring for...this is where it all starts. In The Rope, the latest in Nevada Barr's bestselling novels featuring Anna Pigeon, Nevada Barr gathers together the many strings of Anna's past and finally reveals the story that her many fans have been long asking for. In 1995 and 35 years old, fresh off the bus from New York City and nursing a broken heart, Anna Pigeon takes a decidedly unglamorous job as a seasonal employee of the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area. On her day off, Anna goes hiking into the park never to return. Her co-workers think she's simply moved onher cabin is cleaned out and her things gone. But Anna herself wakes up, trapped at the bottom of a dry natural well, naked, without supplies and no clear memory of how she found herself in this situation. As she slowly pieces together her memory, it soon becomes clear that someone has trapped her there, in an inescapable prison, and no one knows that she is even missing. Plunged into a landscape and a plot she is unfit and untrained to handle, Anna Pigeon must muster the courage, determination and will to live that she didn't even know she still possessed to survive, outwit and triumph. For those legions of readers who have been entranced over the years by Park Ranger Anna Pigeon's strength and determination and those who are new to Nevada Barr's captivating, compelling novels, this is where it all starts.

#SundayFunday @ozma.of.oz

1. Tagged prequel to the Anna Pigeon series. All #mysteries set in national parks!

2. All of them. Lol Top of the list: Yellowstone, Denali, Dry Tortugas, and Congaree. We went to Hot Springs and Mammoth Cave earlier this year and our plan b honeymoon last year was a tour of national parks out west.

3. Ranger Confidential by Andrea Langford sounds good! Added to my Amazon wishlist!

BookishBelle For those who are interested (haha), for our plan b honeymoon we went to Zion, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, and Death Valley. We also went to Red Rocks national land conservation area, Hoover Dam, and drove on a bit of Route 66. It was great! 3y
Butterfinger That sounds awesome. I have always wanted a road trip like yours. I'm reading a book right now that I think you would like. Dystopian set in Thailand. 3y
BookmarkTavern Yellowstone is absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend it! Thanks for posting! 3y

Butterfinger In fact, because of a misunderstanding between my husband and me, I own a copy. Would you want it? 3y
BookishBelle @Butterfinger sorry for the late reply. This week has been busy so I haven‘t been on litsy in a few days. That book sounds awesome! I wouldn‘t mind having your extra copy if it isn‘t too much trouble. Thank you!! 3y
BookishBelle @ozma.of.oz I hope to get to go next year! 🤞🏻 3y

I came across this picture as I was organizing for the Facebook book challenge thing. (Thanks to Litsy, I have a readymade stash of book pics!) I realized I never got the journal back from whoever had it last. I can‘t remember, and my email requests were met with radio silence. So... one last time ... PLEASE send me the journal. #whodunitbymail

Anna finds herself in a nature made #prison in this prequel to the series. #letstravelaugust

Susanita I‘m not tagging group members so the post doesn‘t get unwieldy. 5y

Wow! That was a wild ride. Sometimes I was shaking my head saying “that would never happen” or “why would she do that?!?!” But, I couldn‘t put this book down. This mystery/thriller definitely got my heart pumping and my pulse racing! #whodunitbymail

LeahBergen It seems a little crowded in your reading spot. 😆 6y

It was interesting to go back and read about Anna Pigeon in her first national parks job, what happened there and what had happened before. There are two heroes in this book - one is the landscape which is described in ways that make me want to book a flight immediately. The other one is a tiny creature that I won't say much about. I'm not sure whose pick this was for #whodunitbymail but I hope to mail it off to @Mdargusch next week. @Tiffy_Reads

mcipher I love that series! 6y
Hoopiefoot I love these books! I need to check this out 6y
AndreaReads It's @Susanita pick! I really liked this one, too! It was my first read for our #WhoDunItByMail and it was especially fun because I have spent many summers hanging out at Lake Powell! 6y

I really enjoyed this book. I was suspicious of #whodunit the whole time but Ms. Barr kept me guessing anyway! This was my first Anna Pigeon novel and I want to read more of her story. I‘m going to get this in the #whodunitbymail and headed to @ReadingEnvy tomorrow!

ReadingEnvy I was just talking about Nevada Barr the other day! I read a bunch of her early books but got distracted and haven't read her in years. I'm looking forward to it. 6y

Getting in some #lunchtimereading today. I realized yesterday that I‘ve got to get this out for #whodunitbymail soon so I‘ve switched from Shadow of Night for now.

Well, this book sure got prophetic all of a sudden.

I just met Buddy, and I really hope his fate isn‘t sewn up in this quote. 😱

I may have to send this off to @BookishBelle before I finish it! Fortunately, the ebook is available thru the library so I can finish it even if that‘s what happens.

#whodunitbymail is trickier during busy season at work. I have to remember that next year and plan accordingly! 😁

BookishBelle I don‘t mind getting it a little late, if you‘d like to keep it a little longer. 6y
Read4life @dariazeoli The Book coming to me had to be replaced (thanks again @Alfoster 🤓). Unfortunately I haven‘t received it yet so no way I‘ll get it out on time. 😥 6y
dariazeoli @BookishBelle Thanks! I downloaded the library book to my Kindle today so I could make my Echo Dot read it to me 😂 I‘ll try hard not to be very late with it! 6y

I started my #whodunitbymail today and it made a great companion to my peanut butter cookie and iced latte! This is my first Nevada Barr and it is sooo good. Fantastic character development! I will definitely read more in this series!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first #WhoDunItByMail selection! The setting took place, in what feels like, my own backyard, Lake Powell! I guessed the suspect pretty early on, but there were enough red herrings to keep me second-guessing. I included this beautiful photograph of Slot Canyon taken by my mom's friend to help my fellow #WhoDunIts with a visual of some of the scenery from this book. Thanks, @Susanita for a great start to this exchange!

Media mail is on its way! I bought a journal from BAM the other day, but then I won this one yesterday in our Director's semi-annual gift raffle. (Almost as good as the bottle of Pisco I won a couple years ago!) Since I'd already started writing my thoughts in the one from BAM, I'll keep using it for the rest of the selections in #whodunitbymail
