Marvel Select Hawkeye - My Life As a Weapon
Marvel Select Hawkeye - My Life As a Weapon | Matt Fraction
Get ready for double the archery action as the two Hawkeyes team up to deliver twice the justice! Clint Barton's plan for some downtime from the Avengers is about to take a back seat as he runs into a heap of trouble, courtesy of Russian mobsters, Madame Masque, the Circus of Crime and more. But with ex-Young Avenger Kate Bishop by his side, a whole bunch of trick arrows in his quiver and a new canine companion, these two heroes should just about be ready for whatever comes their way - assuming they can stop arguing first! Reuniting writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja, this groundbreaking, award-winning series is a Marvel comic unlike any other that's always guaranteed to hit the target!

Absolutely gleeful to see Aja take the reins as the illustrator for the second half of this volume (not all issues, but most). First half is the same collection as My Life as a Weapon, the rest is the next issues in this series written by Matt Fraction. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality 2/2 But alas, the marvelous pizza dog POV being the last issue included does not totally dissuade my disgruntlement at an effective cliffhanger at the end of this volume. On to the next!
[Yes, the rest was by turns emotional, adorable, action-packed and hilarious - at this point, I expect nothing less. 🏹🎯].

Okay, I totally get it. Hawkeye feels like a character who never got his due in the movies, but this gives me everything Tumblr and MCU fanfic hinted at for this character. I love the way Fraction writes Barton. I definitely prefer the way David Aja draws him (issues 1-3). I'll be honest and say I skipped the Young Avengers issue tacked onto the end - just not my vibe. Will be seeking out the collected volumes for this series from my library.

This appears to be an unpopular opinion, but I didn‘t enjoy this graphic novel at all. I wasn‘t a fan of the illustrations and I found it hard to follow the story. I think it was more a bunch of stories all loosely tied together. I didn‘t know much about Hawkeye outside of the Avengers films, and I like him in those but he seemed different in this graphic novel.

A superhero with no superpowers on a superhero team but very much a lone wolf. Hawkeye always fascinated me—much like Batman without all the psychosis—because he risked so much more than any of the other Avengers. He is a fragile human, not an alien, not a super soldier, not a millionaire encased in iron. A fragile human. In harms way willingly.

Ethands After you finish Matt Fractions run on Hawkeye; I recommend Jeff Lemires run on hawkeye. It takes a more personal approach to the character. 6y
Awk_Word_Smith @Ethands Will do. Thanks for the recommendation. 6y

HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SINCE I STARTED READING COMICS 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 first one I ever read was Hawkeye v. 1 by Fraction/Aja this time last year. My life was changed by this series. I went from knowing nothing about comics to becoming an amateur comic aficionado. Comics and graphic novels are the majority of what I read now, and I couldn't be happier. Happy comicversary everyone 🎉💜

Texreader That's awesome and so is the character Hawkeye (I love the Marvel movies!). 7y
alanacristin Gah these fraction/aja trades are some of my favs! 😍 where did you head after Hawkeye with your comics reading? 7y
queerbookreader @alanacristin That was my first series I ever read, then I started Captain Marvel, Lumberjanes, Princeless, and a bunch of stand alone comics. And a manga series. (I'm looking at last year's goodreads challenge that's why I can tell you so specifically 🙋🏻) 7y

readordierachel The Fraction/Aja run on Hawkeye was fantastic. "This looks bad..." Congrats on your comics anniversary! 7y
alanacristin Oh, i love Lumberjanes! I'm collecting those along with Gotham Academy and Squirrel Girl thinking they're great for my students and evenrually my kid. I'm guessing Princeless would pair week with those? All need to get ahold of that series 😍gah, i miss weekly comic book day 😭 congrats on the anniversary! 7y

Went into a comic store for the first time and every guy who worked there were the most patronizing assholes to me, they go "have you ever read a comic before?" whilst I'm flipping through a whole series I've already read, then I tell them about some I read they go "oh those are really girly they aren't good, read these instead" *names off comics that only feature white men* and kept calling me "little girl" LIKE CAN U NOT

queerbookreader All these comics I told them I read featured women and they just so quickly dismissed them and I just. Am going to stick to libraries. I knew there's definitely sexism within the comic fandom but goddamn 8y
AWahle I'm sorry! Some shops are going to be like that though. Hopefully you can find a shop that isn't, preferably with female employees. If you're ever in Moscow, ID, Safari Pearl is run by two amazing women! 8y
Laura317 Ain't nobody got time for that! I'd have rolled my eyes at them and told them that obviously they have no idea what they are talking about. Maybe they should rethink selling comics. 8y

Carol 💔That's the worst. I feel so lucky the shops here have evolved and I'm sorry yours has not. Don't feel like you have to shop there. There are online options for places that don't treat their PAYING CUSTOMERS like garbage. 😡 8y
SusanInTiburon They, or their employer, should know that their offensive attitudes lost the store a good customer. Jerks. 8y
kammartinez GodsDAMN. That... That's just not right. I would suggest complaining to management but I get the feeling they might not listen, since their hiring practices haven't progressed since the 1950s :|. 8y

#funfridayphoto - sports and books. Again!! I can only use my "Reading = Sport" argument so many times (ok it was only one time). But since that post i haven't added sports books to my repertoire. So instead here is Hawkeye doing what he does. After all, archery is an Olympic sport. Um, right? #readingisasport

First comic I've ever read and honestly brilliant, A+

zembla His comic with Chip Zdarsky is fabulous too. I balked at the title initially, because I don't want sexual violence in my entertainment, but check out the synopsis — it's not about what comes to mind when you think "sex criminals," to put it mildly ? 8y

Currently on a graphic novel binge and checked the first few volumes out of the library. When Clint Barton isn't being an Avenger, he still gets himself in some sticky situations!
