I LOVED Black Butterlies, Home Fire and beyond that, the sea (the non capitalization of the title only drives me a little nuts) and highly recommend them all. A Very English Murder is the start of a new to me cozy series which was enjoyable. Preparing to read the 4th in the series with the #SundayBuddyRead in December. Read about 30% of I‘m Fine but wasn‘t feeling it.

squirrelbrain Ooh that lack of capitals is making me a bit twitchy! 🤣 2d

Cinfhen How was your Paraguay book?? 2d
Daisey @Cinfhen It was a historical fiction that fit the prompt, but it was not great. I never felt truly invested in the characters‘ lives although there were good possibilities for emotional connections. Plus, I still don‘t understand the war that was described. I do not recommend it except as a Paraguay setting. 22h

I only read a little bit from any of these books! I brought myself up-to-date on BQ and found some more books specifically for June.

Meanwhile, I‘m returning A Killing in the Hills to the library, as it appears from the cover to be an autumn book, and I have enough books I especially want to read this month. I‘m keeping Fire Storm though, since I‘ve already started it.

Slow going this week. I‘m right where I‘m supposed to be in Bandit Queens. The Will of the Many is dense, so it‘s slow going and Gryphon is my current audiobook. I‘m not loving it and I‘m tempted to bail. I think I will just switch to something else for the weekend and save Gryphon for work when it can be background noise. #bookreport

Good week 😁
Thought Yellowface was thought-provoking and a lot of other things and look forward to discussing.
The Last Dance was the start of a new series so we‘ll see how that goes for no 2!
This Could be Everything was a good read about grief and family.
Really enjoyed This Family.
Just started The Authority Gap, already fuming.

Solito got more interesting once Javier and his grandfather left on their “trip,” but then Libby clawed back the book into Holdland.

I finished Desert Heat and liked it more than expected, so I‘ll add Joanna Brady to the series I need to follow.

Not much progress was made in the physical books. I spent a lot of time updating my long-neglected iTunes library and dealing with other personal administrative and domestic tasks.

Thanks to C.J. Box and month end close, I got through a lot of books this week. I‘m hoping to finish one more today, since it‘s a dark, rainy day. I enjoyed everything I finished and bailed on one other book this week. This week I managed book club stuff, vacuumed 50 pounds of cat hair from the carpet, went to a weird ballgame, and finished two very different books.
-The Nickel Boys: brutal
-Tahoe Deathfall: ridiculous

I‘m making progress on the rest, except for the one that hasn‘t moved from the back of my car yet. Also mucked around a bit in Libby and the library catalog as part of managing book club stuff and Camp Litsy prep.

#bookreport #weeklyforecast This was another slow reading week, but the highlight was definitely A Room of One‘s Own. As slim a volume as it is, there were sections I‘d either never read or didn‘t remember, and I was happy to be able to finally get to appreciate this in its entirety because it was a book that really spoke to me. @Cinfhen

It‘s been a sleep-deprived migraine-y week, so I accomplished little beyond bailing on even more audiobooks. I listened to half of American Predator on Friday, though, so I might actually finish that one. I‘m still plugging away at Titanium Noir. Cinfhen I thought you had read it @BarbaraBB - it was good but it‘s written in this interesting form - like a cross between poetry and Mad Libs ( do you know what that is????) so it had this detached feeling 🫨 1mo
BarbaraBB That sounds difficult and I have no idea what Mad Libs is 😳 1mo
Cinfhen @BarbaraBB you need to google Mad Libs 😁- it‘s a book full of fill in the blank paragraphs where certain words are left blank and you‘re given options ( like noun, verb, celebrity) to create your own sentences. I‘m sure you‘ve seen it 🥰 1mo

Read A Small Place for #TitlesAndTunes which was fabulous! It‘s been way too long since I read Kincaid, & I‘d almost forgotten how much I adore her.

Started Devil In The White City for #AAM, which is just as good so far as all the littens promised me in would be!

IndoorDame I‘ve made barely any progress on Clarissa, so I‘m giving it one more week before I bail, & no progress on the sonnets (again), so I may put that back on the shelf for a while.

#bookreport: finished two books this past week and feel quite good about it. I didn't read a lot last week. My body is still healing and most of the time, I am maybe reading a few minutes a day, if that.

#currentlyreading: Got through the first part of The Polished Hoe during #deweysreadathon on Saturday and started The Glass Hotel. Continue to read The Long Winter for the #littlehouse readalong. The other two I will try to read.

More below

melissajayne #upcomingreads: I am aiming to get more of my current reads and working on these reads this coming week. I don't know how much I will get done, as I have a bunch of things to do around the house next week that I would like to complete.

CRA was so fun & unputdownable! I‘d say it totally lived up to its hype even after all these years.
Ariel was the perfect reread! Plath was speaking directly to me, just as she‘s spoken directly to millions of other women over the years.

It was another mixed bag of a week in life and in reading, but on balance good. I had another post-op visit, and everything is going well there.

Birnham Wood - I bailed.
The Bandit Queens- just about a pick- loved the humour and women just thought it got a bit samey.
Just started The King‘s Jewel and enjoying being back in the 11th Century 😁

paper.reveries Some gorgeous covers, wow! 2mo

Cinfhen Happy Holidays 💕🌸🐣 2mo
willaful I had no idea Lois Ruby was still writing. I really enjoyed her What Do You Do in Quicksand? when I was teen -- still own a copy, I think -- but never found anything else by her. 2mo
Daisey @willaful She‘s not only still writing, she‘s coming to our school for an author visit this week, which is how I stumbled across this one to read. They‘re not the easiest to find, but she has several. 2mo
willaful How very cool! 2mo

I finished Song of Achilles, read bits and pieces of the rest*, acquired more books, and did a lot of non-reading stuff this week. There‘s been a lot going on lately, but it‘s all (mostly) good.
* I finally brought this in from the car today…

I‘m covering two weeks again. All were picks except for The Witch In The Well, which I gave so-so. I didn‘t review the children‘s picture books but I love all of Ryan T. Higgins‘ books. Pink is for Boys has lovely illustrations and a great message.

Cinfhen Excellent 😁💕my friends kids are starting to have kids so I‘m always on the lookout for new to me children‘s books! Thanks for sharing those here!!! 2mo
Bookzombie @Cinfhen Welcome! I enjoy them myself but I also like to check them out for my nephew and niece. 🙂 2mo
