I was super behind on the #AOGGbuddyread but I'm happy I did reread Anne of Green Gables! I love this book so much! Every time I read it I still find myself laughing a lot and of course crying my eyes out during the Matthew scenes at the end. Anne has to be one of the best and most entertaining characters ever written. ❤❤❤

Reviewsbylola Oh yeah, that was 😢😢😢 What a gorgeous cover!! 6y

Super behind on the #AOGGbuddyread but I'm hoping that the #prereadathon of 1000 pages this week in preparation for Dewey's 24 hour readathon will get me going. Can I just read instead of work? #idratherbereading

erzascarletbookgasm This edition is so pretty! 6y

I thoroughly enjoyed re-reading this for the #AOGGbuddyread...even though I managed to miss most of the discussions! 😔Thanks to @JenlovesJT47 for hosting the buddy read—and congrats again on your new baby boy!!

This is a perennial favorite—it was lovely to find it hasn‘t faded for me at all over the years. Anne is a kindred spirit just as much as ever, and I think I fell in love with Marilla just a little bit more this time around.📚💜💕

JenlovesJT47 I'm sorry I've been slacking on the discussion questions! 😱 Glad you enjoyed it. And thank you! ☺️💙 6y
BarbaraJean @JenlovesJT47 No worries—you‘ve had a few minor things going on.😏😂 6y
tpixie This week I won points for my team on trivia night! I knew the author‘s name! Our team was the only one that knew it!! A couple of weeks ago I was the only one who knew Mary Poppins‘ author too!! WOot for readers!! 6y
BarbaraJean @tpixie Woohooo!!! Love it! Readers for the win! 6y

I love sassy Marilla!

Finally have sat down to catch up on the #AOGGbuddyread, I‘m hoping to finish this up today and finish on time even if I haven‘t made it to any of the discussions after the first one!

A day late on my #AprilTBR... I did not do well with my #MarchTBR so I‘ve got lots of carry-overs this month, plus my #GirlyBookClub read, a #BOTMbuddyread, the #AOGGbuddyread I fell terribly behind on and a couple more pulled from the shelf. I have great faith I can get through it all in April. But I thought that about March, too...

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Yay!!! 🙌🏻👏🏻☺️📚 6y

Working on some buddy reads tonight... and realizing that ALL my current in-progress books are buddy reads! Might have to start a fourth one “just for me” this week. 😏#Earthseachapteraday #EpicBuddyRead #AOGGbuddyread

JazzFeathers LOL! That's been my situation for the past couple of weeks. Started Beta-reading for a friend yesterday... and that's just for me 😄 6y

Sigh. Guys, I feel like I'm full of excuses lately but I am seriously so forgetful right now and I blame it on pregnancy brain! 😩🤰🏻Only 3 weeks to go! Anyhoo, here's the discussion question for this week for the #AOGGbuddyread - only 3 days late this time! 😅😵Forgive me everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the book so far!

Smangela I‘m behind anyway! Just got my copy in from the library so working on catching up! 3 weeks to go AND running a buddy read?? That is impressive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 6y

JenlovesJT47 @Smangela hope you are enjoying it! Yeah I think I might have overextended myself lol but I'm trying to cram in as much bookish stuff as I can before the baby is born! 😳😆 6y
JenlovesJT47 @rubyslippersreads lol yes!! And because he made fun of her looks which she is very sensitive about, and he is supposed to be very good looking, which can be intimidating. Plus he's smart. Double threat. 6y
LauraBeth Don‘t stress about it! 💕💕 6y
mrp27 No worries. The fun of buddy reads is sharing the experience of reading together! As for Anne, yes she is super sensitive about her looks and red hair. Secondly, I think she harbors a secret crush. 6y
mcipher I‘m behind reading anyway - I forgot where we are on the schedule. So I‘ll catch up and comment later. Also: 3 weeks? That is the hardest part! I hope it goes by fast and easy. 💕😊 6y
blithebuoyant Personally I think Gilbert himself plays on Anne's insecurities, sometimes without knowing it. Anne has little to no confidence in her self image and not only did Gilbert tease her about her hair, her biggest insecurity but he challenges her intellect as well, what Anne considers to be her defining quality. She's been lost in a crowd of orphaned children for so long, she wants so badly to be special and Gilbert is standing directly in her way. 6y
blithebuoyant She can't forgive him because he represents everything that troubles her as a child. Her hair, her invisibility and her presence of mind, Gilbert doesn't "get into scrapes" like she does. It's almost like she needs to beat Giblert to beat the parts of her that she feels are flawed. 6y
janeycanuck Ack! Haven‘t made it to these chapters yet. Hasn‘t been my best week for reading... 6y
Carolyn11215 Will comment later. Just found this Book Riot post on rereading AOGG as an adult thinking about whether to give to a child today. Found it interesting. Hope you do as well. One spoiler in the post. https://bookriot.com/2018/03/21/rereading-anne-of-green-gables-with-a-critical-e... 6y
JenlovesJT47 @Carolyn11215 thank you for sharing, very interesting! 💚 6y
Carolyn11215 I don‘t think it‘s about his making fun of her appearance as Mrs. Lynde insulted her that way as well and Anne lost her temper over it. Every time Anne “makes nice” with someone (like Mrs. Lynde) seems to me that it was because Marilla absolutely demanded that she do so and theatened long-term punishment if she didn‘t. Marilla didn‘t get involved in the feud with Gilbert. Wonder if Anne would have relented and accepted apology if she had. 6y
Carolyn11215 There‘s also a different power dynamic when you are in altercation with adult vs young peer. Adults have power over Anne. Gilbert does not. And I agree with those that believe a secret crush she doesn‘t want to admit even to herself makes it hard for her to let him make amends. 6y
mcipher I don‘t know that Anne has a crush yet. I do think your comment about Marilla forcing an apology makes sense @Carolyn11215 - I hadn‘t thought of that! I think it has to do with how he‘s a troublemaker, too - Anne is trying trying so hard be good but here‘s this person acting up and getting away with it, and being mean to Anne. Plus Diana likes him and there might be jealousy there. 🤔 6y
Bengali.bookworm I couldn't put down the book... So I finished it 🤦🏽‍♀️... 6y
JenlovesJT47 @Bengali.bookworm lol I don't blame you at all! 🙊such a great book. 💚 6y

BookNAround OMG! I need this for sure. Not until October though. ::big sigh:: 6y
JenlovesJT47 @BookNAround yes! October seems so far away 😪 I really hope the author does Marilla justice, she's such an interesting character. 6y
rubyslippersreads I can't wait for this one either! 6y

BookNAround @JenlovesJT47 I‘ve read Sarah McCoy before and I think she‘ll do well with Marilla. 6y
AlaMich I hadn‘t heard of this. I loved AoGG when I was a young‘un. And now Marilla has a backstory! 😊 (edited) 6y
ReadingEnvy I hadn't rememeber the hints of her story in the book but the Anne with an E tvshow made me want to know more! This is awesome. 6y
JenlovesJT47 @BookNAround oh yay, that makes me happy! I'll have to check out some of her books. @rubyslippersreads @AlaMich @ReadingEnvy can't wait to read this! 💚 6y
mrp27 I saw this too, can't wait! Enjoying my reread of Anne of Green Gables. 6y

First off, an apology to everyone participating in the #AOGGbuddyread ! I completely forgot to post discussion questions on Sunday 😭. I had my baby shower on Saturday and spent most of Sunday recovering in bed lol. Secondly, I hope nobody minds I swiped these from the internet! 😬 But I think they are good questions. Thirdly, remember this is very laid back so if you are behind, don't worry. Tagging everyone below, discuss away chapters 1-8! 💚

mrp27 No worries! I'm all caught up and will join the discussion this evening. 6y
mcipher I love Anne and I love her personality and her incredible positivity. I think her imagination is what allows her to stay so upbeat despite the misfortune in her life - it‘s so vivid that it‘s as if things she imagines really are true to her, and they make her life not just bearable but incredibly rich. Re: naming things - she loves words so that is part of it. But I wonder if it‘s also to kind of claim things as her own, since she has so little? 6y
See All 12 Comments
Smangela My copy is coming to tomorrow so I‘ll be sure to catch up ASAP! Yay for baby showers - recovery definitely needed after that 😂 6y
teebe 💚 Imagination is so key to everything Anne does, it‘s definitely what fuels her positivity and it‘s how she deals. And naming things... she wants everything to be as lovely as they possibly can be (or as lovely as she can imagine them to be) because life has been so hard otherwise. Lovely things need a lovely name to match, and unpleasant things can be made pleasant. (edited) 6y
Carolyn11215 Anne‘s imagination, curiosity and love of all things beautiful are what help her maintain a positive attitude despite some very challenging childhood experiences. I adore the names she comes up with for her surroundings and agree with others that this naming allows her to take ownership of her environment. 6y
JenlovesJT47 @mcipher @teebe @Carolyn11215 I agree with you all. Anne's imagination is so vivid and the way she names everything makes her that much more endearing. How can anyone not love her? 💚 6y
Carolyn11215 @JenlovesJT47 Indeed, I can‘t imagine how anyone could fail to love Anne. She charms even the most irascible of people it seems! I love the relationship between Anne and Marilla. I think there are a number of reasons that Marilla ultimately decides to keep Anne. It‘s clear that the household before Anne arrived was a very lonely one and that‘s alleviated by Anne‘s arrival. I think Marilla and Anne share a devotion to the concept of fairness. (edited) 6y
Carolyn11215 Marilla gets a glimpse into what an unhappy life Anne must have led when she was used as a nanny by a series of families before landing at the orphanage when Marilla‘s cranky neighbor with very young children offers to take Anne in if Marilla won‘t keep her. Neither Marilla nor Matthew have the heart to place her in that situation again. (edited) 6y
Carolyn11215 Anne verbalizes thoughts that Marilla also shares but would never say out loud (about Mrs. Lynde for instance) and I think that unconsciously draws her to Anne as well. And I‘m sure she sees the positive impact Anne is having on Matthew despite her complaints about it. It feels like Anne is bringing something new to the siblings‘ relationship. (edited) 6y
Carolyn11215 @JenlovesJT47 I am so in love with this book! I‘m reading ahead as my e-book will need to be returned next week. Anne is making me think of my boss‘s amazing nearly 5 year old daughter, who is wise beyond her years and has a very active imagination, so I just put a copy in my Amazon shopping cart for her. Can‘t bear the thought of her not having this book as she grows up! Thank you so much for suggesting this buddy read!! (edited) 6y
JenlovesJT47 @Carolyn11215 💚💚💚I'm glad you are enjoying it so much! Completely agree with your thoughts about Marilla. And that's awesome you're buying it for your boss's daughter. I wish I had read these when I was a kid but I didn't read them until my 20s. BUT I was lucky enough to grow up watching the movies over and over again. ☺️ 6y
