I have finally committed to my December #Bookspin list. I really wanted every single book to be one I would want to pick up right away, plus two to finish for #Booked2022. I am fully emerging myself into seasonal reading and I‘m not mad about it 😂

The Snow Geese | William Fiennes

Mehso-so

A memoir of travelling along with the migratory snow geese. I appreciated the parts where the author talked about the birds and himself. Less so the many detours about the people he met on his travels which seemed to left a bit hanging as he then moves on...

I loved this book. It may be my favorite of the year. This is the story of the legendary Achilles and his best friend/lover Patroclus. As with Circe it is beautifully written and you know it will lead you to tears but you will treasure every second of it 💙

West: A Novel | Carys Davies

Pickpick

A low pick for me, maybe too high expectations - I expected to love it; it was just good 🤷🏻‍♀️

Widower Cy Bellman heads into the American West, searching for living dinosaurs. His lonely young daughter is left behind in the care of her aunt. Despite the wide open spaces and big themes, this is a subtle novella, albeit with a surprising end. It would make for a great book club discussion.

Did I love it? No. It might just stay with me though.

rockpools I‘m going to use this for #booked2022 #involvesanexploration, although you do feel that Bess could learn more exploring the world from home (given the chance) than Cy did on his journeys. @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae 3d
Cinfhen Cool choice!! I read this one and I thought it was really thought provoking!! And I appreciated how the author conveyed so much in under 150 pages!!! 3d
rockpools @Cinfhen It is extremely well-done! It just didn‘t connect with me quite as much as I‘d hoped it would, for some reason. 3d

I may set Hagitude aside for a bit, but I will finish Perseus and The Passenger this week. I expect to get through Murder Book and at least start Daisy Darker. I‘m just really not sure about my next audiobook. I‘ve given up hope of finishing either #readingafrica2022 or #booked2022, but Nomad counts for Africa and Moon for Booked, so I may try to cross off at least one more prompt via audiobook. #weeklyforecast

Cinfhen Every book read counts towards the drawing for #Booked2022 so you‘re all good 😊 3d
Cinfhen Also I‘m looking forward to 3d
Itchyfeetreader I am in the same boat, although I came into reading Africa seeing it as a multi year journey! 3d
Bookzombie I loved Moon of the Crusted Snow. I hope you get to it. 🙂 3d

This is the story of the crew of the Karluk who were stranded for about 9 months on Wrangel Island, north of Siberia. The author describes the ordeal of the men in great detail making it sometimes hard to read but, it's a fast-paced and tense tale that kept me reading past my bedtime wanting to know what happened. Anyone who enjoys survival and/or exploration adventures would like this. It will be published on December 6th.

Cinfhen Sounds fascinating!! I love exploration stories!!! #Stacked 6d
Andrew65 Sounds a great book. Well done 👏👏👏 6d

China: A History | Cheryl Bardoe, The Field Museum
post image
Pickpick

I chose the shortest book to start with my #NovelNovember goals. This is a YA history of China. It was published to go along with one of the Field Museum's exhibits. It covers China from prehistory to about 1912. I know very little about China and this helped to expand my knowledge. It also is my book for #SetInChina for #Booked2022 @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae @Andrew65

Two-week #BookReport this weekend! Still finding my groove, but I‘m really enjoying #NFNov. Tracers, about finding the thieves and bad actors in crypto currency, is one I loved and will reread with dad. Border was 💯 worth the investment! Wilderwomen is a worthy sophomore effort from Lang. I just love Rainbow. She can melt my old, stony heart. The Perry was the only one I didn‘t care for. Just didn‘t hit right.

Megabooks Also, I‘m using Demon Copperhead for my choose your own prompt for #Booked2022 (a book set in a city where I‘ve lived - Knoxville) @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae 1w
Cinfhen Im enjoying #NFNov too!!! Great idea for create your own prompt - what did u think of 1w
Cinfhen Also im totally stacking the two books you mentioned as favs 🤓 1w

Megabooks @Cinfhen it was good! Probably longer than it needed to be but I enjoyed it! Tracers and The Border? Both were excellent!! 1w
sarahbarnes I almost picked up Post-Traumatic awhile back at the library but ended up leaving it. What did you think? 1w
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I liked it, but it was quite heavy. https://www.litsy.com/web/post/2504226 1w

Well, 2022 can be summed up with Grateful Dead lyrics!

I went several months without reading this year & I'm behind on most of my reading challenges. For #Booked2022 I would need to read 10 books to finish out-there's 6 weeks and I read one book a week. I'm also behind on Bingo and #Roll100.

Yesterday, I decided enough was enough.

For the next 6 weeks, I'm reading what I want to read. Mostly mysteries and Christmas as we enter the holidays.

julesG That's a very good decision 2w
