Erasure: A Novel | Percival Everett
post image
Pickpick

“I was a victim of racism by virtue of my failing to acknowledge racial difference and by failing to have my art be defined as an exercise in racial self-expression.”

This quote by Monk Ellison, narrator of the book, sums it all up. Monk is a Black writer who notices more is gained by writing from a Black, preferably ghetto perspective than by writing what you want, regardless of race. ⬇️⬇️

BarbaraBB It is an important storyline in yet another impressive satirical book by Percival Everett. Another storyline, about his ageing mother is equally impressive. 2y
Cinfhen Lovely photo 😍Im not a fan of satire, which is probably why I don‘t **LOVE** Everett‘s books☹️ 2y

BarbaraBB @Cinfhen If you don‘t like satire I can absolutely see why Everett doesn‘t always work for you! 2y
Librarybelle You‘re doing so well with this challenge! 2y
LaraReads Great quote! And really good prompt choice too. 2y
rmaclean4 I loved The Trees...need to check this novel out next. 2y
squirrelbrain Great review! I haven‘t read any other Everett but, like you @rmaclean4, I loved The Trees so really should read more. 2y
Hooked_on_books I have a copy of this. Now I‘m even more excited to read it! 2y
Megabooks I just noticed you haven‘t been posting much either. Are you okay? 💜 2y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I am fine dear Meg, thanks for asking. Just not reading as much as I‘d want to. Work! And a bit worried about you, I wish I could help you. So much to deal with for you 🤍 2y

The Imperfects | Amy Meyerson
post image

I‘m LOVING this book…its literally set on my old street where I first grew up in Lower Merion… Edgehill Road. This would work for several #52Books23 prompts - still not sure which prompt I‘ll use it for. I‘m 💯 certain the author, Amy Meyerson is a local girl…right @DivineDiana ? !! She‘s already named Hymies and Laurel Hill Cemetery 😁

IndoorDame Fun! I read a book set where I grew up last year and it was so cool to see that in print! 2y

squirrelbrain How cool! 😁 2y
Read-y_Picker That's so fun!
2y
CBee I doubt I‘ll ever find a book set in my hometown (Vicksburg, MS) unless it‘s Civil War related nonfiction 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ 2y
Cinfhen I literally grew up on 203 Edgehill Road - it‘s so random why the author chose that street😄 @CBee @Read-y_Picker @squirrelbrain @IndoorDame - it is pretty cool - I texted all my siblings they weren‘t as amused 😂 2y
AmyG That‘s pretty wild. What town is this in? Our town in NJ had an Edge Hill. 2y
Cinfhen It‘s set in Lower Merion, Pa @AmyG outside of Philly - author keeps mentioning local deli‘s and other local spots. She obviously spent time in the area 2y
AmyG I thought it was PA! It‘s fun reading about places you know. Harlan Coben lives a few towns over from where we lived in NJ and he would write about the area. 2y
ShelleyBooksie What! Harlan Coben lives by you @AmyG !! Jelly. 2y
Librarybelle Oh! Stacking! 2y
AmyG @ShelleyBooksie He used to when we lived in NJ. 2 towns over. 2y
DivineDiana Thank you for putting on my radar! I visited her Website and read that although she currently lives in Los Angeles area, she is originally from Philadelphia! Stacked! 😘 2y
Cinfhen Yes, totally love that about Coben @AmyG my brother lives in West Orange and his kids went to the Jewish Day School in Livingston - I need to pick up a Coben, it‘s been a while. I think @Suzze knows Coben @ShelleyBooksie or there‘s a connection 🙌🏻 2y
Cinfhen I‘m enjoying the book @Librarybelle @DivineDiana interesting history too but it‘s a little slow in the middle. I‘m listening to audio via hoopla & I always like Cassandra Campbell as a reader🙌🏻 2y
Bklover 2nd package has arrived. 😁😁😁👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️ #muglove 2y
Cinfhen Yay @Bklover 🙌🏻I haven‘t spoken to my mom since I arrived in Morocco/ terrible Wi-Fi but I assume package has arrived. Going to Fez today so maybe Wi-Fi will improve ❣️😄 2y
Suzze @Cinfhen @AmyG @ShelleyBooksie I haven‘t talked to Harlan in years, but I got to know him early on in his career. He even used my name, Suzze T. as a character in a couple of his books. 2y
Cinfhen Hi @Suzze ♥️what‘s new??? Hope all is well 2y
ShelleyBooksie What!!!! That is SO amazing!!! I would faint if he wrote my name in a book. LOL 2y
Suzze @Cinfhen I‘m pretty good. I hang out mostly on TikTok (BookTok) @suzzereadsalot 2y
Cinfhen I haven‘t ventured onto TikTok @Suzze hell, im still not on FB 😂😂😂but I‘m glad to hear you‘re well. 2y

This book was a comfort and a joy. I picked it up at the library, came home and read it cover to cover. If you ever need to forget the world and destress, may I suggest this book. A book for book lovers. #52bookclub23 #booksoncover @jlhammar @batsy @Deblovestoread @ravenlee @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @Bluebird @Read4life @AshleyHoss820 @triplem80 @Librarybelle @Jennifer8 @BookBelle84 @Clwojick @LeeRHarry @Smarkies @CarolynM @britt_brooke @KarenUK

britt_brooke I need to finally pick this one up - thanks for the rec! 2y
triplem80 I bought this one and the Diverse Covers one last year (even though I never buy books!), but haven't read either yet. Glad you enjoyed it! 2y
jlhammar I also got this one from my library a while back. Really enjoyed it. Wouldn‘t mind having my own copy someday. Love the artwork. 2y

The Personal Librarian | Marie Benedict, Victoria Christopher Murray
post image
Pickpick

While the writing isn‘t overly polished the sheer brightness and magnitude of Belle da Costa Greene is spectacular. Based on the true account of Belle Marion Greener, a black woman passing as white, who was the personal librarian for JP Morgan & in charge of acquiring & purchasing rare manuscripts and art for the NY scion. Her position was unheard of for a woman in the early 1900‘s let alone one who had to hide her color & true identity.

Lynnsoprano I‘ve been meaning to add this to my TBR. Stacked! 2y

squirrelbrain Great review! I loved this one too. ❤️📚 2y
SamAnne I was introduced to Belle in Timothy Egan‘s Short Night of the Shadow Catcher, about the photographer Edward Curtis (highly recommend). I‘ve wanted to read more about Belle ever since. Have this on my shelf but haven‘t started yet. 2y
Cinfhen Thanks for the rec @SamAnne 🤩I definitely will check it out. I really think you‘re gonna like this book @Lynnsoprano it was very good @squirrelbrain 2y
Librarybelle Belle Green had a very interesting story 2y
KarenUK Stacking this one 💕 2y
Verity I think I have this on one of my lists - but I wasn‘t impressed with her book about Hedy Lamar - is this better? 2y
Cinfhen @Verity I haven‘t read that one ( I do own it) but I‘ve read two others and enjoyed them both, it‘s not so much her writing that‘s great but Marie Benedict chooses fascinating women to write about!! I liked this one 2y
Verity @Cinfhen thank you! Have you read the Christie Affair? It came out last year and is another take on the same thing. There‘s a lot of Christie out there atm- I have the Lucy Worsley biography to read too! 2y
Cinfhen I have read the Christie Affair @Verity I liked it even though others did not and I recently bought the bio too…it was an Audible deal which I‘m looking forward to 🥰 2y
