Hello friends!

Looking back on 2021 I‘ve had a hard time motivating myself to read this year. Partly pandemic related, partly being busy, partly just some meh feelings overall. But I‘ve found I‘ve felt most motivated and got the most reading done when I‘m taking part in challenges so I‘d love to do more next year! I‘m already hyped for #booked2021 and I‘d love to learn about any other year long challenges that are running!

DGRachel @BarbaraBB and @Librarybelle are hosting #readingafrica2022. I‘m almost done with #readingasia2021 and it has been so great that I‘m totally doing Africa next year. 2y
Soubhiville I‘ll be joining on reading Africa and always #AuthorAMonth. 2y
sebrittainclark #LitsyAtoZ and #BookspinBingo are my favorite litsy challenges 2y

ChaoticMissAdventures This year I did #BookspinBingo and found it to be lots of fun! 2y
TEArificbooks #foodandlit is a favorite of mine 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft and I just launched our #Booked2022 prompts the other day 2y
DrexEdit #BookSpin and the related spins are what got me out of a pandemic reading slump. 2y
Kenyazero I'm planning on making another year-long LGBTQ+ book bingo, and I've also been having SO much fun doing reading challenges on Storygraph. 2y
Catsandbooks @Butterfinger @Texreader and I are doing another year of #FoodandLit The countries for 2022 will be posted soon! 2y
Singout Love @Riveted_Reader_Melissa ‘s annual nonfiction Bingo challenge, and trying #NewYearWhoDis this year. 2y
Butterfinger These are my challenges - #MGBuddyRead (middle grade books), #YABuddyRead (young adults) both with @megnews , #OverbookedClub with Megan and @sblbooks #ReadingAfrica2022 , #AuthorAMonth, #FoodandLit of course 😘 PopSugar, ReadHarder #Booked2022, #ChildrensClassicChallenge with @TheBookHippie #BBRC with @LibrarianRyan #EpicNewberyChallenge I know it is a lot, but my favorite thing about challenges is when you research and the book fits multiple prompts. Best feeling. 2y
bthegood I have joined in on a couple of the book clubs - which motivates me to finish by a “due“ date - Classic Books is #ThatsClassic hosted by @Annie1215 Agatha Christie book club is #AgathaChristieClubR2 hosted by @ferskner and Stephen King book club #LosersClub hosted by @mynameisacolour - there are more book clubs (these are just the ones I've participated in) - 😊 2y
sblbooks #Overbookedclub is a monthly buddy read. We mostly read historical fiction with some others mixed in. You're more than welcome to join us any time. They're going to have #NewYearwhoDis again. Where you swap reading list with a partner. Run by @monalyisha 2y
TheBookHippie I do #childrensclassicread then add the year so watch for #childrensclassicread2022 and I also do #SUNDAYBUDDYREAD ♥️ 2y
Liz_M @Butterfinger What is BBRC? There are too many posts to scroll back to find the original 😊 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I will post a new #nonfiction2022 reading bingo card very soon. And I read with #SheSaid every month, which are all books written by women and mostly nonfiction, with a few fiction thrown in once in awhile. I also read with #StarWarsBuddyRead which is reading the new cannon Star Wars books, and with #PratchettPosse which is reading Terry Pratchett‘s books in publication order, and #ShakespeareReadAlong which is working it‘s way through the plays 2y
Butterfinger @Liz_M Babies and Beyond Reading Challenge. You read picture books (titles start A to Z), leveled readers, middle grade prompts, young adult prompts, adult prompts, and prompts for a mixture of all ages. It runs from July to June. @LibrarianRyan is the organizer. 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'll be doing #booked2022 #foodandlit some #authoramonth #sundaybuddyread #thatsclassic and I'm looking forward to two others that aren't rooted in Litsy but have some participants here, The 52 Book Club & Pop Sugar Reading Challenge, whose prompts haven't been announced yet. 2y
Singout #nonfiction2022 that @Riveted_Reader_Melissa organizes is excellent! 2y

Pickpick

Living too far from town, we didn't get to visit the library often. But when I was able to get a book, I mean a fine book, I read it over and over and over before it was due.

I read Johnny Tremain several times as a child and it still holds the same power over me. Johnny becomes a spy for the Sons of Liberty and in the process becomes a man.

Ericalambbrown I loved this book as a kid! I think it may have jump started my obsession with history. 3y

This is a great book for a personal or class library. Merci is facing hard changes in her family and school. Medina portrays how hard being a tween is in all honesty. Merci learns her beloved grandfather suffers from Alzheimer's disease while dealing with bullies. It is so hard to grow up.

amber_ldsmom I‘m still halfway thru Dead End in Norvelt because we‘ve been moving. Excited to start this soon. Glad you enjoyed it! 3y
Butterfinger @amber_ldsmom I appreciate you doing this challenge. 3y
Texreader Wonderful review 3y
amber_ldsmom Thank you! I‘m so happy someone is doing it with me. ❤️❤️❤️ 3y

The Hope - Wouk's Winds of War miniseries came out when I was in 4th grade and my parents allowed me to stay up to watch it. I think this was the pivotal moment for me and history. I tried reading the book, but it scarred me. I was way too young. #FoodandLit @Texreader @Catsandbooks

LibrarianRyan Nice. 3y
Lynnsoprano OMG, you‘re making me feel old, because I was MUCH older when I read Winds of War. It was published when I was 20, and I think I read it shortly after publication. And it made a huge impression on me, too. Didn‘t think the series measured up to the book. (edited) 3y

Soubhiville Yay! 3y
Butterfinger @Lynnsoprano I didn't mean to make anyone feel old. It was a childhood memory. I never got to stay up till then. It was just me and my dad and it was magic. When War and Remembrance came on I was in 8th grade. And, again I got to watch it with him. Except, he thought the concentration camp scenes were too much and he made me go to bed. I had an old black and white tv then in my room so I watched them tear Sir John Gielgud and I knew what was going to happen. He found me sobbing and took away my tv. 3y
Lynnsoprano @Butterfinger No worries, everything makes me feel old these days 😂 I remember the thrill of being allowed to stay up late to watch something on tv. The first time my mom let me stay up was to watch the movie Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison with Deborah Kerr and Robert Mitchum. It was my dad‘s bowling night, and I had to hustle to bed as soon as it was over before my dad got home. Don‘t think we ever told him 🤣 3y
Cinfhen I love your memories @Butterfinger @Lynnsoprano I remember being allowed to watch Roots, The Thorn Birds & Rich Man, Poor Man. I recently read The Thorn Birds and absolutely LOVED it 3y
Butterfinger @Cinfhen @Lynnsoprano I just woke up and was trying to "like" Cindy's comment. LOL 3y

This was a fun book. It will probably be in my top ten of the year. Being grounded, community service, the Grim Ripper, and honoring history. What is there not to like?

Sweet and clever! I can understand why it won the Newbery and Caldecott. I especially liked "Blake Tells the Tiger the Tale of the Tailor."

KCofKaysville I have glanced through it. Looks good. 3y
