(just reusing the picture because I kinda like it)

Did I rush through this book? Yes. Did I want to continue reading it forever and ever? Yes. Do I want to read the next book in the series? Yes.

Alexis Hall is good for my soul. I love how these book normalize queer realities without exploiting them. That they show how our society still discriminates, but also simply focuses on the fact of two people meeting and growing together.

julesG I love this book. And you're posts don't help with #MountTBR, because now I want to reread this one, too 4d
Jari-chan @julesG It's definitely worth a reread 🤭 (sorry, not sorry 😉😜) 3d

I love sitting at bars just to read. It's just as fun at a cafe, but with fewer people doing the same thing 😆

I started Chef's Kiss last night and it's pretty fun so far! This is definitely a #BlameItOnLitsy for me because I originally didn't look past the cover design of this one. #Comics #LGBTQIA

LiteraryinLawrence I loved this one! 4d
Kenyazero @LiteraryinLawrence I can see why! It's been a very fun read so far! 3d

Pretty Boy Dead: A Novel | Joseph Hansen
post image
Panpan

The book opens with Steve Archer returning home in the morning having woken up in a strange bed, only to find the police at his apartment ready to arrest him for the murder of his boyfriend, Coy. The bulk of the book is a flashback telling how this all came about (which I did not realise for quite a while and was thus terribly confused), and the final 20-30 pages (out of 200) shows Steve looking for the real murderer to exonerate himself. ⬇

rwmg It's a 1960s attempt at gay noir but, quite apart from language and attitudes which would not pass muster nowadays, I found some characters so forgettable that I had no idea who they were when they re-appeared. I have good, albeit vague, memories from the early 1980s of the author's Dave Brandstetter series, which I might revisit some day but this stand-alone deserves its fate of languishing in obscurity despite several re-issues over the years. 5d
The_Book_Ninja Sounds as bad as that cover looks. 5d

Gaunt hears Ellwood quoting poetry to a boy in his room. The boy does not even know what the words are from.
"He [Gaunt] knew the lines Ellwood had quoted. They were from Shakespeare's Sonnet 20. Ellwood had written them in pencil on the wall above Gaunt's bed, and Gaunt had hoped they meant something."

40 pages in and I can tell this book is going to destroy me.

AkashaVampie Love the nails. 5d
ChaoticMissAdventures @AkashaVampie thanks! I usually do not go for bright but I am craving summer 5d

It‘s hard to read a play as opposed to seeing a play, but this play has a good plot and many twists. I read it in preparation for reading a novel that references the play and gives away the plot points. It‘s a decent murder mystery. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My infinity star read. This book is the equivalent of a comfy pair of pyjamas, something I slip back into whenever I'm ill or anxious or possibly both. What's not love about an asexual stoner hipster and an idiosyncratic curmudgeon living platonically ever after together? It has all the feels, laugh out loud moments, and harbours the only miscommunication trope that I've ever enjoyed. I've basically read (and reread) all of Klune's books now!

slategreyskies I‘ve never heard of this book. Stacking! 💕 5d
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @slategreyskies Enjoy! 💞 There's a sequel, too - 5d
slategreyskies I ended up picking up copies of both today. I‘m here for the demi and ace rep. 🌈 💕 5d
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @slategreyskies Oh my goodness... I hope you enjoy them! I actually had an ace awakening when I read this one the first time 🩶🤍💜🖤. That's why it means such a great deal to me. A-spec rep is so difficult to find. And Klune is ace himself, so that's even better. If you enjoy his writing, he has tones of other books, too. I'll keep a look out for your thoughts if you decide to post them on here 🏳️‍🌈💞. 5d

Gaunt and Elwood meet at boarding school. Gaunt taciturn, a boxer. Elwood beautiful, a poet. They adore each other but will not say it. Then the First World War happens and their lives split and collide. Did I need another book about WWI? I did not. Do I like First World War poetry? I do not. Did I love this book anyway? I did indeed. The most beautiful story of hidden love, friendship, privilege and class.

TrishB I loved it too ♥️ 6d

My goal is to finish both of these by Sunday night. I'm about 1/2 through Mickey 7 and I have about 100 pages left on Way Station. Easy Peasy.
#weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

vivastory I read Mickey 7 a couple of months ago. I liked it. Kinda annoyed to hear that the adaptation has been moved back a year. Not really surprised though because i'm sure they don't want to have to compete w/ Dune pt 2 6d
RamsFan1963 @vivastory Who is playing Mickey? As I listen to the audio, I've been trying to imagine who'd be right for the part. 6d
vivastory I think Robert Pattinson is playing Mickey 6d

RamsFan1963 @vivastory Ugh!! Really? Okay that's definitely NOT how I've been picturing Mickey. I was thinking more Daniel Radcliff or even Ryan Gosling. I've only seen Pattinson in dramas, never saw his Batman movie, the actor playing Mickey needs a solid comic touch, and I don't see that in him. 5d
vivastory I did like the most recent Batman, but I agree that it needs a comic touch. I'm not sure how much it will go in that direction since it's a Joon-ho movie & he tends towards the bleak. 5d
RamsFan1963 @vivastory That would be disappointing, the humor is part of the book's charm. I'd hate to see it reduced to some grim depressing, shoot'em up. 5d
