We had our monthly meeting, still on Zoom, for the library‘s #HughesUnitedBookClub 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! While no one disliked the novel, opinions varied between so-so and excellent. I give it ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️—not bad, but not quite my cup o‘ tea 🙂. Have you read this title?! #LitsyLovesLibraries #bookclub

BookPixie I liked this one :) 4y
CourtSmall Its slow to start, I actually picked it up and out it down a few times until my work friend insisted I keep reading. It would make a great feel good movie. I got a few laughs out of it. 4y
Vansa I LOVE this book. I really liked that it was an unsentimental look at immigrant lives and not the usual clichéd conflicted identity story. 4y

#BookNDinner! Audiobook Edition. Late meal after my library‘s #HughesUnitedBookClub Zoom meeting this evening 🙂 (we read The 7-1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle—what a great discussion!)! Accompaniment this hot and humid night: garden salad with mixed greens and spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted chicken, black olives, mozzarella balls, walnuts, sunflower seeds, & parmesan, in olive oil, with mango lemonade. MMmmm 😋! #MrBookKitchen

We had more people join, this was at the beginning of tonight‘s meeting. My library‘s #HughesUnitedBookClub read the tagged book for tonight and has the author attend 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!! Kate (center rectangle) is SO awesome, so if you run or attend a book club where the group might like to have an author join in, then reach out to Kate! Her and her book are both fantastic. 😁 FYI: She‘s a librarian too. #LitsyLovesLibraries

Scochrane26 FYI—Silas House (southernmost, etc) is willing to attend online meetings if you ask him. 4y

This was tonight‘s selection for my library‘s #HughesUnitedBookClub 😁! It received *very* mixed reviews! Some members loved it, some didn‘t even finish it, some thought it was meh. *That* makes for a fun and dynamic book club conversation 😂👏🏻! Good times.

#LitsyLovesLibraries

Pogue Our book club read it and I thought it was Meh too. I thought that it would be more about the women in the story. 5y
Rachel.Rencher What did you think? I really liked it! 5y

Almost #BookNDinner! The #HughesUnitedBookClub went out to eat afterward to discuss the movie and the book, it was a delightful dinner! 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #TexasRoadhouse Edition. Accompaniment this hot and muggy evening was: ribeye steak with mushrooms, baked potato, garden salad with Ranch, Guinness, and some shared appetizers. MMMmmm 😋! 😎👌🏻

webhau1 What did your group think of the movie? I liked it but I am glad I read the book first, because although it has been a few years since I read it, it helped me to understand how hard the Mom was trying. 5y
webhau1 Whoops never mind I see you have already talked about this in another post. Sorry 5y

Time for “Where‘d You Go, Bernadette?”! 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Out with a bunch of members of the #HughesUnitedBookClub form the library!

Have you seen this film?!

AmyRebecca Enjoy! 5y
TheSpineView Not yet, have fun! 5y
BBooks Tell us what you think after.... read the book so wonder how far off movie goes 5y
Jess Saw it on Thursday. Cate is wonderful as usual. Enjoy! 5y
MrBook @BBooks It was good! Everyone thought the movie was as good as the book. Things were different, as almost always happens, but it all balanced out. I think that if you liked the book you‘ll like the film. 5y

Tonight‘s monthly #HughesUnitedBookClub was terrific! It was a big turnout and a fun, lively conversation that went right until the end! Just about everyone loved this book, and a nice thing about it is that we‘re close enough to #NYC for many of our members to have been there during this time. They talked about what it was like, and Davis is spot on in this novel. At least one of them even visited the Barbizon in the ‘50s!

cobwebmoth I really liked it. 6y
RaimeyGallant I did, but I'm a little disgruntled that Bernadette didn't arc into a nicer person by the end, by, for instance, being nicer about us Canadians. 6y

@BookBabe & I just got home after our library's newest book club, the #HughesUnitedBookClub. The club's fourth meeting's selection was this book, and most everyone found it an absolute delight 😁. I co-coordinate it with 2 of the best colleagues I could ask for, @leeloo13 and @sochya 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! We had 11 people come out tonight, and there was plenty of fun back-&-forth and laughing. It's a great book club 😊. #LitsyLovesLibraries
