One more down in my #PhryneMarathon with 4 to go! There‘s only a few series that I can reread on a regular basis, these, Dame Agatha(both Poirot & Miss Marple), The Wheel Of Time & Anne McCaffrey are some. They never get old, just better. Phryne is invited to a large country house party for the end of 1928, but the host has another motive for her, to investigate death threats. Complete with an assassin to uncover, French bohemians & polo players.

Another book down in my #PhryneMarathon this one being very apropos right now considering the fact NSW is currently underwater! Australia, burning one day, drowning the next🤿 And of course, my roof is leaking and I now have a lovely crop of black mould in my foyer. Wonderful. At least the book was great, Phryne & Dot take a case that brings them on a cruise ship to New Zealand in chase of a jewel thief. Hijinks ensue.☺️ #phryneappreciationclub

CarolynM Oh no! Hope you can get rid of that mould fast! 4y

14 down & 6 to go in my #PhryneMarathon I keep forgetting how many books there are, though I‘d love a few more Ms Greenwood! One can never have too much Phryne💃🏻This one had a bit more of her backstory, with a bit of the Orkneys woven in, plus it brings Ruth‘s history into it(though Phryne certainly gets around doesn‘t she?😉)Another wonderful read. #phryneappreciationclub

Getting close to the end of my #PhryneMarathon with the end of this outing. This has a lot of interesting information about the Victorian goldrush in the 1800s & the large population of Chinese that emigrated to work on them. There‘d be quite a few Australian Chinese that would be able to trace their families back to that pretty lawless part of history. After finding a mummified young man, Phryne & Lin Chung travel to Castlemaine to find answers.

Next book done in my #PhryneMarathon One of my faves coz not only is there so much of Phryne‘s backstory, there‘s a heap of Bert & Cec, my two favourite wharfies. I love how the author weaves real people into Phrynes story, there were so many characters in Paris after WWI, like Dolly Wilde, Oscar Wilde‘s sister & all those artists in Montmartre(making P into an artists model was inspired)I would‘ve loved to be a part of that talented, crazy bunch!

TheEllieMo This is definitely my favourite Phryne novel 4y

Another book down in my #PhryneMarathon I love this one, it has two storyline‘s, the 1st is the poisoning of Miss Lavender who illustrates the Hilda & the Fairies cartoon for Women‘s Choice magazine & on the side answers the Please Help letters, and the 2nd is the disappearance of her Chinese lover, Lin Chung, after he departs for China on a silk buying mission. Both are convoluted & both are tied up very neatly by the end. #phryneappreciationclub

Louise I really enjoyed the Netflix series. What do you think of the writing in the print version? (edited) 4y
Lizpixie @Louise I enjoy both. They have so many differences I prefer to think of them as two seperate but linked stories. For example, I love the Phryne+Jack❤️in the tv show, but I also adore the Phryne+Lin❤️in the books. There‘s no Ruth or Mrs Butler in the show, but likewise, there‘s no Aunt Prudence in the books. I know the books can get a bit cliche sometimes, but you have to remember it‘s really a cozy crime series & they all get like that🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
Louise Thanks for filling me in. I might try the books on audio sometime. Cozies make great bedtime listening! I think your idea of thinking of them as two different but related things makes good sense. 4y
Rissreads I have never read these books but I love the covers 💚 4y

What a bloody awful weekend I just had! First Friday was 40C(104F), I went to dinner at my youngest new flat but couldn‘t get in the security door so stood in direct sun for 20 mins & nearly fainted, then Sat was 47C(116F), had a meeting with the celebrant in a non air con house & nearly melted. So I‘ve been sick as a dog with heat exhaustion🥵On the plus side, I continued my #PhryneMarathon with this outing about a murder in the Jewish community.

Lizpixie And dammit, I‘ve just realised I missed the #alternate24in48! 4y
LeeRHarry I‘m thinking of all of you up there - I hope you get some cooler weather soon Liz 🤞 4y

One more down in my #PhryneMarathon This sees Phryne & her maid Dot take the lovely Lin Chung on a house party weekend in the Australian Alps. But like all of Phrynes adventures, things get lively, a maid is assaulted then goes missing, there‘s death threats & snares laid for the unwary. Just another weekend for the unconventional flapper! #phryneappreciationclub #LitsyAtoZ2020 #LetterU #PopSugar20 #PublishedInThe20thCentury #MountTBR2020 #Bk3 👇👇

Next up in my #PhryneMarathon is not actually the next book in the series, but though Blood & Circuses has a beautiful cover, it‘s not my favourite story, maybe coz there‘s not much of Dot, the Butlers & Bert & Cec. This book is the one where she meets her lover Lin Chung when her and Bunji go to his aid in a street fight. Phrynes hired to find a theatre murderer, and maybe a ghost too.👻
