Set in the not-too-distant future, society looks very similar to today. Unsurprisingly, people are more dependent on their cell phones than ever, especially on an app called Lux, which analyzes every situation for you and tells you the optimal choice for every question - what to eat, where to shop, when to leave for an appointment. When Rory gets accepted to the most prestigious high school in the country, she's thrilled, especially when she ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks finds out that her mother (who died when Rory was born) also attended the same school. Things take a darker twist, though, as Rory begins to discover things about the school, a secret society, and (of course) Lux. While some aspects of this story were predictable YA/scifi/dystopian kind of stuff, overall I really loved the concept of a society that has done its best to quash that quiet voice in our heads & replace it with 100% rational choices ⬇ 2w
TheAromaofBooks thanks to technology. This book felt like it could easily have strayed too far into religious territory, but kept the balance well. Overall a fun read for its genre.

• Read in full yesterday for a last-minute #BookishFirst #JanuaryBookBingo prompt for "a book about the civil rights movement." I didn‘t even plan it, I just picked it up and read it and found the prompt later. It was wonderful, by the way, and I'm better for having read it. Just in time for #BlackHistoryMonth ???? •

I can't believe that the carry-over character from the first book was the person who drove me the most crazy! The actual story & action in this book was great fun, but listening to pages of pompous prosing by the great Dr. Ian Malcolm really dragged down the pace. Some of what he said was important to the story, but a lot of it felt like padding. Would people really sit around & listen to multi-page lectures when they could be DINOSAUR WATCHING?!

Bookwormjillk Lol you‘re so right 3w

TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - It just seemed unlikely that people, including two children, would rather sit in a dark trailer listening to him prose on about various scientific theories about extinction instead of being out watching real, live, honest-to-goodness DINOSAURS! 🙄 3w

One more down in my #PhryneMarathon This sees Phryne & her maid Dot take the lovely Lin Chung on a house party weekend in the Australian Alps. But like all of Phrynes adventures, things get lively, a maid is assaulted then goes missing, there‘s death threats & snares laid for the unwary. Just another weekend for the unconventional flapper! #phryneappreciationclub #LitsyAtoZ2020 #LetterU #PopSugar20 #PublishedInThe20thCentury #MountTBR2020 #Bk3 👇👇

• Updated ongoing #challenges ⬆️

So close to having some completed #BookBingo lines but I probably won't make it in the next few days. I'm really making a serious effort to #readharder this year but it takes consistent perseverance •

I had somehow never read this one, and it seriously cut into yesterday's productivity levels because I had trouble putting it down! A fun romp of a story, and I found myself wondering how it was marketed when it was first published, because realizing that these were DINOSAURS could have been a pretty serious mind-blow! I had some issues, mainly the constant philosophizing whilst fending off velociraptors - seriously, is this when you would ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) ACTUALLY be lecturing everyone on chaos theory??! VELOCIRAPTORS!!! The ending also felt awkward and abrupt. Still, all in all, this was a fun story that I had trouble putting down, and I am (perhaps foolishly, considering everything I need to get done today 😁) rolling straight into The Lost World. 3w
hannah-leeloo I loved these books. I agree Malcolm had interesting timing and was hard at times to keep up with his "theory". Happy reading hun ??? 3w

TheAromaofBooks @hannah-leeloo - I was just like, “Um, pretty sure you are dying of dinosaur wounds while velociraptors are nomming their way into your room so they can kill you and you are still TALKING ABOUT SCIENTIFIC THEORIES?! It just seemed unlikely! 😆 3w
hannah-leeloo @TheAromaofBooks yer I agree but he was very clever for a man becoming delusional hahaha. Alan Grant will always be my favourite 🦖 3w
Inkblotsandcoffeestains I agree with you on this! When I read it I laughed at how unlikely it would be to do anything but freak out! On another note though: I thought this was a million times better than the movie will ever be, which is saying a lot because I love the movie lol 3w
TheAromaofBooks @hannah-leeloo - yes I fell a little bit in love with Grant when I was reading this!! 😍 3w
TheAromaofBooks @Inkblotsandcoffeestains - it's been a really, really long time (like maybe 20 years lol) since I have seen the movie, so it seemed like a good time to read the book, when the movie wasn't really in my mind any more, if that makes sense. But now I'm interested to rewatch the movie and see how it stacks up! 3w
hannah-leeloo @TheAromaofBooks he's great in the films and books 😉 3w
