Well, I forgot I had already read this book when my #LPMBC #GroupC chose this short story collection. I love Lahiri. I love everything I‘ve read by her, and this #reread is no exception. So glad I got to share it with these wonderful folks. Highly recommend if you‘re looking for a short story collection that explores the themes of immigration, assimilation, and marriage/fidelity. Very glad you‘re teaching this to high schoolers @Readergrrl !

Readergrrl @Megabooks IOM is one of my favorites and I find I easy to use with my students as an entire collection or use individual chapters. I‘m so glad you enjoyed it as reread!! 1w
BarbaraBB I read this so long ago I remember nothing about it. 1w
Megabooks @Readergrrl very true! And since I only read dead white men in high school, I appreciate a teacher that shares work by living women of color. I hope my high school‘s current teachers have caught up 25 years later. (I mean not even Maya Angelou or Toni Morrison for crying out loud!!) 1w

Megabooks @BarbaraBB once I started reading them, they were very familiar. I think I read it around 2012. 1w
Megabooks Forgot to tag you @Cinfhen 1w
Cinfhen I read this book with Niki when she read it for HS English 11th grade so that was probably 12 years ago ( give or take) 1w
BarbaraBB I checked and read it in 2002. I think I wasn‘t really ready for Lahiri back then and should maybe reread it too. 1w
TheBookHippie I love this one too! It‘s been awhile since I‘ve read it! 1w
CarolynM Such a good book! 7d
Megabooks @Cinfhen such a great book for high schoolers to read! 7d
Megabooks @BarbaraBB it‘s worth a reread. Of course I always enjoy short story collection rereads! 7d
Megabooks @TheBookHippie it‘s just fantastic! 7d
Megabooks @CarolynM agreed! 👍🏻 7d

Enjoyed my #reread of this for #CampLitsy! The information about ASL and Deaf culture was so necessary. I‘d recommend it to anyone just for that. Plus, I simply liked these characters and this setting. They felt familiar to me in a very comforting way. The only drawback was that the book just ends without much resolution. Looking forward to our discussion!

squirrelbrain Pretty much my thoughts on this book too! I‘m also looking forward to our further discussions at the weekend. 1w
BarbaraBB You‘re absolutely right that it‘s a book that deserves to be read! 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain same! I think we‘ll have a good conversation! 1w

Megabooks @BarbaraBB for sure! I found it very educational with a plot that kept me interested, even if parts were a bit YA. I see what people are saying about lack of character development, but sometimes I enjoy a book with characters that are simply likable. 1w
Megabooks Forgot here too @Cinfhen 😘😘 Crazy day and my haircut wasn‘t even right!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 1w
Cinfhen Agreed!! Book is worth reading just for all the information shared by the author about ASL & deaf culture. Sorry I missed the discussion on Saturday @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain 1w
BarbaraBB That is absolutely true, about characters just being likable. The subject itself didn‘t need to be distracted by complicated characters! @Cinfhen no apologies needed, we all know you‘ve been very busy and yet found time to do an awesome job with #Summerheat 🤍 1w
Cinfhen Thanks so much @BarbaraBB BUT you get all the credit for #SummerHeat xxxx 1w
Cinfhen I‘m sure your hair looks great, Meg but I know that feeling when nothing seems right or goes smoothly 😕 1w
squirrelbrain No worries @Cinfhen - I‘m sorry too that I missed your #summerheat discussions on Sunday. We were camping and lots of people wanted to talk to Henry so I just didn‘t get the chance! @BarbaraBB 1w
Kimberlone Agreed about the end! 1w
Cathythoughts Nice review.. I‘m nearly finished, I agree there is a lovely familiarity about the characters. Well put 👍🏻 (edited) 1w
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain That sounds like the best excuse 🥰 1w
1001BooksPodcast Yes! I finished this yesterday and loved it! But I‘m dying to know how it turned out for the characters. Im invested! 1w
Megabooks @1001BooksPodcast yes! I hate that it just ended!! 7d

So glad Cocks and Morgan went back for a second glimpse at Bex's life. The plot twists hit even on a #reread, and I love the addition of Daphne to the Lyons party and the Queen becoming a Cubs fan. #womensfiction

I‘m so grateful to author Sara Novic for raising my awareness of deaf culture, their community and the obstacles they face both within their own families and from the hearing world at large. I enjoyed the print book for its ASL illustrations and tutorials and found the audiobook engaging and well produced. Where I struggled with this book, was the story. It was just lacking somehow. It read as very melodramatic and a bit too YA angsty for me.

Cinfhen I‘ll be curious to see how the other #CampLitsy campers feel @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @Megabooks 2w
squirrelbrain I‘m really looking forward to the discussions on this one! 2w
batsy Nice review! I'm feeling somewhat the same. I really appreciate learning about Deaf culture, but the writing & plot feels YA. As a result I struggle to pick it back up after putting it down. 2w

Cinfhen Thanks @batsy it was frustrating to read at times. And I felt bad feeling that way 😂 2w
batsy I was feeling bad too because of all the 5 star reviews! Feeling better now to know I'm not alone 😁 2w
Cinfhen We‘re a small but mighty group @batsy since @Suet624 & @BarbaraBB felt similar 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️ 2w
julesG @squirrelbrain That's tomorrow, right? Better read the first half of the book then. 🙈 2w
squirrelbrain Yes, that‘s tomorrow! @julesG 🤦‍♀️ 2w
BarbaraBB @batsy You‘re feeling the same! It‘s a relief! 2w
Megabooks My #reread of it is getting tedious, so I may just skim the second half. It‘s not a book that particularly lends itself to a reread, especially so soon after my first read. But I‘m also having a rough day health-wise, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘ve been tucking into this, which I‘m enjoying a lot more! (edited) 2w
Cinfhen Im so sorry you aren‘t feeling well @Megabooks / sending love 💕 2w
Megabooks Thanks dear friend 💜💜 2w

I just love this book more every time I read it. The comedy is spot-on, the romance is beautifully developed, and Bex, Nick, and their friends all feel so real, even when the situations are so beyond what us commoners can expect. Simply majestic! #reread #romcom #satire

A #reread was the perfect choice. I adore Kate and Andy's friendship being the central relationship, and Matt and Noah are both beans. The high school theater rep is so accurate, too! Becky never misses. #yalit

4.75⭐️ I managed to squeak this book in time for my book club meeting tomorrow afternoon. While it isn‘t my top favourite book in the series, I still enjoyed the book for the most part and liked the continued transition of Harry and his friends from children into young adults. #2022 #fiction #harrypotter #fantasy #reread #youngadult #bookreview#bookstagram

GOD I love this book. I love how lovingly it treats Pendt and Ned and Fisher. I love how bodily autonomy and kindness are the ultimate goal. I love the irreverence of Pendt's narration. I love it all! #reread #yascifi

The perfect #reread to kick off summer. The characters are realistically flawed without being melodramatic, and the setting is jealousy inducing. #womensfiction

Time for a #reread! And time for my all-time favorite beer, only available in Wisconsin, but brought to us by awesome friends. 🍺 Cheers to those who have laid down their lives for our freedom. We appreciate you beyond comprehension. #MemorialDay 🇺🇸

JenReadsAlot It's good beer 🙂 1mo
PathfinderNicole My husband loves that beer but because we live in Michigan he has to ask his buddy who has family in Wisconsin to get it for him whenever he visits 😂 1mo

britt_brooke @PathfinderNicole We lived in the Milwaukee burbs for 3 years, but that‘s been 10 years ago now, so luckily one of my husband‘s employees travels to WI regularly, and we get random deliveries to TN! 😂 (edited) 1mo
AnansiGirl Spotted Cow is the best! 😍 1mo
Mollyanna Love Spotted Cow! I live in the Milwaukee area and get requests from friends to bring some when I travel. Sometimes I think I get invited to events for the Spotted Cow, not because they want to see me. 🤣 1mo
