⭐️⭐️⭐️

I actually really enjoyed listening to this book from the alternating points of view of Nick and Amy. I loved darker Amy and was mostly disappointed that she came back to him instead of sticking with her plan to frame and nail his ass. 😅 I am starting the movie now though 🍿#TeamAmy #TeamSlaughter #Scarathlon2020 #BookSpinBingo #Screamathon +21 pts

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I LOVED Gone Girl! It‘s probably the best book I‘ve read all month. I still need to watch the movie. As soon as I heard who played Nick and Amy, I was SO excited! That is some superb casting! Hopefully it holds up to my high expectations from the book! 😅 4y
MatchlessMarie @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I had known Ben Affleck starred in it which made me lol at Nick‘s inner dialogue of thinking he automatically looks like a douche 😂 (edited) 4y

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how is this book so good?!?!? I somehow didn't read it until I was an adult, so this is only my second time visiting it, but it's just perfection. I'm so happy there's a bildungsroman prompt because this was revolutionary when it was written for showing girls growing up. #teamamy

I couldn't let today's #AugustPhotoChallenge go by without shouting out the legendary female characters of contemporary crime fic - both on the page and those who create them! There's nothing I love more than a female character who DGAF - and as time goes on, the more I realize Amy Dunne is in a class of her own. #favfemalecharacters #teamamy

Gayan Absolutely. 8y
LitHousewife I can't look at a quiz in a magazine without thinking of her. 😍 8y
ScrappyMags Yes! No wilting flowers there! 8y

katedensen OMG Tampa!!!!!!! What a horrifying book. But so well written! 8y
BekahB Totally agree! I haven't read Tampa yet, but it's waiting for me on my Kindle. 8y
LisaJo I am in the middle of reading Eileen. I don't know where it's going to go, but right now she is just a miserable petty person. Would not want to be her friend, but love reading about her. 8y
brendanmleonard Tampa is best read as a black, black, black comedy. 8y
BookishFeminist You are going to yell at me but I hated Gone Girl 😱 (Not to disparage your worship of it but I needed to say it because I can't hold it back any longer! lol) 8y
brendanmleonard @BookishFeminist it's all good! I know people who feel the same way and I can see why/understand their reasons. It's a work that I think is not "divisive," but supports a wide variety of opinions and those discussions are fun as well ?. I just really connected with it and even I'm not sure why some days. ? (I hope that wasn't condescending) 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard you're not being condescending at all- if you connect with a book, you connect. I didn't like it because I found the way she drew the characters to be very misogynist even though I don't think she quite intended it that way. But I do see its appeal and didn't bail on it like I did with her others 😂 (I begrudgingly made it through Dark Places but omg I wanted to quit so bad) 8y
brendanmleonard @BookishFeminist I definitely can see that, and I want to reread the book with that lens someday soon. (I have had a hard time getting through Flynn's other work...Megan Abbott all the way.) 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard I still haven't read Abbott yet 👀 Where should I start? 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard Also thanks for having a convo! 😭 I kept seeing your statuses and was like OMG...can't. hold. back! But didn't want to ruin the book for you bc I am 💯 here for book obsessions. 8y
brendanmleonard @BookishFeminist it depends, if you like classic film noir/pulps, I'd say the song is you or queenpin; if you like stories of adolescent longing, I say the end of everything 8y
brendanmleonard @BookishFeminist I think criticism/discussion of the things you love is so important, and one of the things that I love about Litsy is having these discussion 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard I am more into classic noir/pulp but here for both of those things, so I will add them to my ever expending TBR 8y
BookishFeminist also I completely agree about having critical discussion but know so many people are uncomfortable with it when it's their favorite. Critique doesn't mean bad imo. Litsy is really the best platform for it though bc there are so many different perspectives & usually very respectful. 8y
BibliophileBytheSea Loved Tampa and Eileen. I would add Perfect Days to the list by montes😜 8y

If you know me, you know that I love this book. Like, it's in my top 3 of the decade. And one of the reasons is the sibling-relationship in it - twins Nick and Go (seen here as played by Baffleck and Carrie Coon) are funny, codependent, honest, and a little f'd up. I think it's one of the most underrated parts of the book, and reinforces a lot of the major themes. #augustphotochallenge #bookishsiings #teamamy

TheSpinecrackersBookClub I absolutely loved this book too. Good choice! 8y
JoeStalksBeck It was a rare occasion that I like the movie better. 8y
brendanmleonard @Bookworm4ever the movie was my favorite movie of the year but it robs Amy of some narrative agency, IMO. 8y

JoeStalksBeck I think the narration on the audio may have played a big part in my lack of enjoyment of the book. 8y
JoeStalksBeck I did however love Dark Places. Both book and movie, though the book blew me away 8y
LauraBeth I ❤️ Gone Girl but I haven't seen the movie - I need to get on that 😺 8y
KarenUK Great choice.... 8y
brendanmleonard @Bookworm4ever I have tried the audiobook a bunch and didn't like it. @LauraBeth the movie is fantastic! Perfect casting across the board. 8y
Varshitha Great choice!! 8y
MissCarrieLou ❤️❤️Carrie Coon❤️❤️ Have you seen her in The Leftovers(another book adaptation! 😀)? 8y
brendanmleonard @MissCarrieLou not yet! I want to but tv stuff about grief and trauma is one of my triggers so I gotta be ready. 8y
MissCarrieLou Oh yeah definitely wait until you feel ready, the first season is especially intense with that, especially Carrie Coon's character. 8y
Gayan @MissCarrieLou , Carrie Coon in The Leftovers is EVERYTHING! She is amazing. 8y
SusanInTiburon @brendanmleonard You make such a good point! It's totally true that the sibling relationship enriched the entire story. 👏🏽👏🏽 8y
