The Thin Man | Dashiell Hammett

#threelistthursday #tlt @dabbe

Six better than last week. This list is killing me! 🤣 For my 3 faves, I went to book noir: two Hammetts and one Chandler.
1. THE MALTESE FALCON: “And when you're slapped you'll take it and like it.”
2. THE BIG SLEEP: “You were dead, you were sleeping the big sleep, and you were not bothered by things like that.“
3. THE THIN MAN: “Nora: “How do you feel?“
Nick: “Terrible. I must've gone to bed sober.”

ChaoticMissAdventures I have a canvas print of Maltese Falcon I loved the vibe of the book! 12m
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures How cool is that? You need to post a pic! I loved the book and movie so much that I taught an American film noir unit to my juniors as a reward at the end of the year. They loved it! To have them come into the room before class started and voluntarily talk about what they thought was going to happen next was priceless! 😍 now

8/100 😭 😭 😂 😂
I don't think Peter Boxall and I share many literary pursuits, though *some* of the ones I haven't read are on #mounttbr
💙All Quiet on the Western Front was a “Whoa“ book for me.
💙Just remembering Pippi Longstocking gives me so much joy. I should re-read.
💙I do appreciate that these lists venture outside the usual canon.

I recommend these three books that I would not have read without this list:

The Bridge on the Drina
Chess Story
The Street of Crocodiles

dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement I remember asking my 5th-grade teacher if I could read a PIPPI novel for my book report (I was having a PIPPI love fest), and she said NO! 😱 She said I could only read the books that were on the list. No wonder she wasn't one of my favorite teachers. 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🤗 2h

#Bibliophile #ZInTitle I read this years ago and really liked it . Captures the culture of Germany between the Wars .Rainer Werner Fassbinder did a 15 hour film version of this book. This book was also in the list of titles in this week‘s #ThreeListThursday quiz. Franz is out of prison, trying to built a life , gangsters, petty thieves, unemployment lines,& other challenges stand in the way of his stability.

dabbe Looks like a W🤩WZA one! 6d

#TLT #ThreeListThursday should say 1900s actually.
I‘m surprised I am not a bit higher. Really read many around the WWI era.
Room with a View , Howards End EM Forster fantastic. I love James Joyce, you don‘t need to read Ulysses, read Portrait of An Artist as a Young Man, The Jungle , Great Gatsby of course. E E Cummings Enormous Room is an impressive book about the WWI era.

dabbe I fixed the error; thanks for catching it. #TFPAS (Thanks for playing and sharing). 😊 6d

ABYSMAL. I never thought I‘d be grateful for The Great Gatsby, but at least it enabled me to check one box. Hemingway was another and I‘ve already forgotten the other two. I‘ve owned copies of three of the pictured books (two for 30 years!) and lost all desire to read them. The only one on the list I still want to read is Conrad‘s The Secret Agent. #tlt #threelistthursday You‘re killing me @dabbe 🤣😭🤣

dabbe This list was horrific IMHO. Most of them I was like 😳! Never even heard of most of them. And I agree with your choices as far as they've been on the TBR, but I really don't want to read them, especially THE JUNGLE. Too many other more enjoyable ones out there! We'll have to find some better lists! #TFPAS (Thanks for playing and sharing). 😊 7d

7/100. Better than I thought I would get considering my history with these lists. 🤣

I don‘t know that any of them will make my TBR stack. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I‘ve read so much American literature because that‘s what I taught. So many titles here that I should have read!!

dabbe And I'm an American-Brit lit kind of gal! World lit? 😳 #TFPAS (Thanks for playing and sharing) 😊 1w

There is no in between in this survey, I had either never heard of the book or I had read the book and a lot of the ones I did read I didn‘t like. My collection of 1001 Books to Read Before You Die is very different. It was nice to see E M Forster, Evelyn Waugh, James Joyce, and Virginia Wolfe. Special shout out to The Charwoman‘s Daughter for making the list.

dabbe It seems this 2018 version went WAY out of its way to include a lot more world literature, which is my weak point. 🤣 #TFPAS (Thanks for playing and sharing) 😊 1w
