Me and the lead teacher
FIRST DAY Of SCHOOL
Had to take my glasses off couldn‘t take it anymore 🤣😬

ASAP (Alternative Suspension Accountability Program) – Students who are suspended and expelled can complete their schoolwork at Escape while working towards peace, restoration, and personal growth. Volunteers are integral in working side-by-side with students.

Cosmos_Moon Sounds like amazing work. We need to squash that school to prison pipeline in America. Children need better support and second chances when they screw up, which probably results from lack of home support for most. Nice work! 4y
TheBookHippie @Cosmos_Moon I call it the loves of my life ❤️ I totally agree and we call it PIK parent impaired kid 😩 the prison pipe line has to stop 4y
Nebklvr What great work! Thank you!! 4y

TheBookHippie @Nebklvr ❤️❤️❤️ 4y
GingerAntics What you‘re doing is so important. 💙💙💙 From what I‘ve seen, far too many kids are suspended starting way too young (preschool suspension shouldn‘t exist...forget that preschool shouldn‘t exist either). Even alternative schools without proper support can really mess a kid up. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics we take 8-12 graders we are hoping to go 6-12 but COVID 😩 so hopefully someday they suspend from kindergarten up in this county. Deplorable. No solution. Most these kiddos have undiagnosed learning disabilities or trauma not caused by self. As you well know. 4y
GingerAntics Sadly, that‘s how it happens. The few that aren‘t in any of those categories before being suspended usually end up that way when they come back. I went to HS with a kid who was so smart, never in trouble, pre ap everything. He moons his friends after school, gets caught by an assistant principal who tells him to come to his office in the morning. Kid‘s got the honesty to show up next morning and is immediately shipped off to alt school. 4y
GingerAntics When he got back, he couldn‘t stay out of trouble. He had to adapt to survive alt school and could never make his way back. He acted like he had PTSD at times. I don‘t think he graduated. Never would have happened if they‘d just given him detention. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics everyday story. Drives me insane. I just keep going. So unethical in my opinion. I‘m terrified of four more years of Betsy DeVos. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I‘ve seen that happen so often. Just infuriating . 4y
GingerAntics This was way before her. W was president when I graduated high school. It is far too common, and to think they send elementary kids there, too. They‘re being set up to fail. It‘s entirely unethical. I can‘t imagine regular schools under DeVos. That woman. I have no words. It‘s unethical that schools are allowed to entrap and coerce students, and then expel/suspend them. So wrong. I can‘t even. This is NOT why I got into education. 4y
GingerAntics It really is. This kid was a small freshman to begin with. He was sweet and sensitive and SO smart. They ruined that for him, because he was acting like a teenager. What a shock, he was a teenager. I can‘t even begin to imagine what it was like for him in there. I work with someone who used to run that school. All 4 years of HS are in one classroom with one teacher so they all end up behind and smaller kids get hurt. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics we‘re non profit and get a lot done by sheer love and grit ✊🏼✌🏻so our kids get an amazing education the ratio is 1-4 or 6. Lots of one on one. We fight for them. We get them basic needs and the help they need. Oy W UGHHH even he looks good to me now 🤣 4y
GingerAntics Right? I‘ve had that thought. I would take W back gladly to get rid of Trump. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 I cant remember who but after Charlottesville a comedian said with Trump we‘re looking back at W and thinking “he led us with his eloquence.” It‘s funny and sad because it‘s true. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics At this point I‘d take Regan back that‘s saying a lot considering my countless arrest protesting during those years. 4y
GingerAntics Oh wow, that‘s saying a whole lot. 4y
JaclynW Thank goodness for Litsy and conversations like these! They make me feel less alone and crazy. Conversations like this don't often happen in some of my circles. I haven't been able to get on Litsy a lot lately and I've missed aspects like this. It's good for my soul. Thanks for being nourishing, open, and welcoming! @TheBookHippie @GingerAntics 4y
JaclynW And @TheBookHippie thanks for the work you do! I'm in awe of your spirit and purpose. You make such a difference to so many! Good luck this year with the extra Covid complications (on top of previously mentioned hardships in this line of work). ❤️ 4y
TheBookHippie @JaclynW ❤️❤️❤️❤️I love it when you‘re here!!! Keep the hope! 4y

I‘ve made it through the first week back! I‘m sleep-deprived, my feet hurt, and I‘m having trouble adjusting to eating lunch at TEN IN THE MORNING 🤬, but otherwise, it was clear sailing! 😁 Here‘s to a great year, #teachersoflitsy!

Lynnsoprano I don‘t miss the sore feet! #Retiredteacheroflitsy 5y
laur89 I understand the struggle!! Lunch for me is now at 1 PM - I spend my pre lunch period talking over the growl of my stomach 😅 5y
CindyMyLifeIsLit @laur89 I envy you! I‘m not a breakfast eater and the usual things I bring for lunch are NOT appealing to me at 10 am, so it‘s been difficult. I just didn‘t eat anything the first couple of days, but that resulted in making me feel sick. There‘s an answer out there—just have to find it! Maybe you could surreptitiously grab a few animal crackers or something between classes—that might quiet the stomach beast! 😜 5y
laur89 @CindyMyLifeIsLit I don‘t do breakfast either - I exist purely on coffee until lunch! I should start bringing a snack to hold me over. Maybe you could just bring a granola bar or some fruit, and save your lunch until a later break time! 5y
CindyMyLifeIsLit I‘ll probably try the granola bar thing, but they gave me all my breaks in one big lump in the morning. I‘m back-to-back classes until almost 3. 😒 5y

wanderinglynn Stats was my worst grade too! I was a liberal arts person and yet they still tortured us with the math. 😕 Thanks for playing! 😀 6y
DGRachel Oh, I loved my statistics class in college. I almost changed my major from English, but that would have required Science for Majors classes and I knew there was no way I was going to be able to handle that. Math classes were not a problem, but I struggled with every science course I had to take in college and those were non-major level classes. 😔 6y
britt_brooke I also majored in business and sucked at statistics. 👯‍♀️ 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @wanderinglynn @britt_brooke 🙌🏻 to no more stats. I did use them in a job many years ago. Agony. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel I was lost in any math beyond accounting. Algebra never sunk in for me. 6y
DGRachel @BarbaraTheBibliophage That‘s interesting. I failed my one and only accounting class in college and I now work as an accountant for an international construction management firm. Go figure. (Not attending class was probably my error there...LOL) I always liked Algebra, but I struggled with anything dimensional like geometry and analytic geometry. I can‘t envision 3D in my head. 6y

wanderinglynn @minkyb Yes! I had geometry 6th period (last class of the day), and the room faced west, so it was hot, and the teacher was old and had a monotone voice. On top of all that, it was geometry. Horrible class! 6y
minkyb My teacher used to throw broken pieces of chalk at us. The memory is fresh in my mind. I took geometry in high school in 1971‼️ 6y

Although I love this time of year for a few reasons, back to school madness is not one of them. Back to school for me means more work and less time to read and be an active Litten. Having the class from hell doesn't help matters either. #notbookrelated #hadtovent #teachersoflitsy
