Information was fine if a bit boring. Focus was a bit too much on corporate and government records, which is less applicable to me. A new edition just came out that is likely to be more updated, but I was already almost finished with this.

Well, the good thing about Peirene novellas you don't get on with: they are short.

This Icelandic novella (about a researcher having a breakdown over a mistake she's made in the archive) I think would have been a better short story.

This was the author's first fiction though, so wonder what the others are like. Will they also be translated?

I'm not usually a fan of campus novels, so this one had points against it before the start!

After finishing this book I went on to The New Yorker website to see how many of Janet Malcolm‘s articles I had read in the past and to my surprise there was a brief article in this recent issue about Malcolm and Eissler! Janet Malcolm‘s nonfiction writing about three men involved in the Freud archives - two of whom have massive egos and one wanting to believe in the brilliance of a protege - is so engaging. 🔽

Yes!! I‘m finally starting to read my December #bookspin!

#11 on my December bookspin.

Well, I‘m flying through my Spooktober pile, mostly because I‘m DNF‘ing a lot. This book fell flat. It was both so convoluted and yet… had nothing happening. It was an attempt to build a metaphor, which didn‘t quite make sense. The writing style was just… off. And the characters? Mostly horrible.

Sometimes being drawn in by the cover doesn‘t work out.

Recently I started volunteering one day a week at the history center for my county, hoping to glean some experience in archiving work. My goal, besides helping out, is to see if I like it enough to pursue a degree in library or archival science. So far, it‘s amazing and right up my alley! Anyways, this book is coming in handy as I begin indexing the history center newsletter for easy searching. Any Litsy archivists out there? #archives #history
