#lgbtbookbingo #lgbtq2023 @Kenyazero

I didn‘t finish the whole card but I did get a bingo!!

I didn‘t read nearly as much this year so I‘m happy with that. Can‘t wait for the next one!

Kenyazero Nice work! It looks like you came pretty close, and completed many of the bonus prompts too! Combined, I bet there‘s enough to count as a blackout 😉 12mo
Kitta @Kenyazero haha okay I‘ll take it! 12mo

I'm so glad I finally read this book. It's one of those I knew of but didn't really know what it was about. But the story was so moving and I enjoyed the unique writing style. I'm excited to see the new movie, hopefully I will get to the theater soon
Thanks again @TheBookHippie for hosting the #PurpleReadAlong and giving me the incentive to read this!

Soft pick for this Northanger Abbey graphic novel retelling but only because it was a bit more YA than I wanted. But I thought the gothic parallels were well done and highlighted the fear of being queer in rural Texas. Cade's Hispanic heritage also added to the feeling of being an outsider. Overall it was a great adaptation of characters and story for a modern time

I‘m thinking about the LGBTQIA+ Book Bingo prompts for 2024. What are some prompts you‘d like to see on this next board?
If you‘re new to this bingo, it‘s a casual year-long bingo focused on books by LGBTQIA+ authors or with LGBTQIA+ characters (or topics) that gets a second set of prompts in June.

@peanutnine @PuddleJumper @Kitta @BookmarkTavern @willaful @coffees @sebrittainclark @MatchlessMarie (hopefully I tagged everyone!)

Kitta I didn‘t read as many as I wanted this year, real reading slump. I found the ones like “has a horse” or “fancy dress” hard because that‘s outside of my usual reading, but I did enjoy the bonus prompts this year! 12mo
BookmarkTavern I liked the ones that nudged me past my comfort zone, like the not your usual genre prompt! I‘d also like to see maybe a couple more specifically non fiction or poetry! Can‘t wait to join in next year! ❤️ 12mo
PuddleJumper It's been a good challenge this year! Some of them were quite tough which pushed me to look outside my normal genres. I like having the mix where some are very specific and some are more open e.g book cover colours 12mo

I've been looking forward to reading this one since it came out & it did not disappoint. Loved this grumpy/sunshine fake dating holiday romance! Sheldon needs a date for his ex's Christmas wedding & Theo needs a boyfriend for his family's Hanukkah celebration before his mom hires a yenta. Sheldon has insecurities about being too femme & Theo suffers from PTSD but both soon open up to each other and realize that what they're doing doesn't feel fake

The Book Haters' Book Club | Gretchen Anthony

This book was so sweet and funny! I read it for my irl #bookclub and we all enjoyed it and had a lot to discuss! The characters are so relatable as they navigate the next step for their family's bookstore after the co-owner dies. The relationships were a big focus, especially tackling platonic vs romantic love. Overall a heartwarming novel with some great book recommendations sprinkled in ☺️

Joining in one final book bingo this year thanks to @Andrew65 . I'm still finishing the June bonus prompts for #LGBTQ2023, but I figured I can do both 😉

Andrew65 Best of luck with both 😁 13mo
Kenyazero @Andrew65 Thanks! It's been a while since I did a month-long bingo, so I'm really looking forward to this. 13mo

Into the Light | Mark Oshiro

This book was so riveting & creepy & twisty! Manny lives on the road after being cast out by his family and has his rules to survive and not let anyone close. But when he hears of an unidentified body found in the woods surrounding a small town, he's forced to face his trauma bc he might know who it is. This story is dark & raw & uncomfortable but I didn't want to stop listening.

Catching up on September reviews...
This book is so informative, yet moving and down to earth. I picked it up knowing little about intersex people and their experience and learned so much. Pidgeon was born intersex but raised as a girl and didn't discover the truth until they were in college. They explain all the medical trauma they went through as a child, not knowing the real reason behind all the surgeries and exams. (cont) ↩️

peanutnine Once they come to terms with being intersex, they start to fight for intersex rights, specifically stopping child surgeries like they underwent and that are still happening across the country. These surgeries cause more harm than anything and take away children's rights to their own bodies. All because society is so obsessed with people fitting into a binary concept of sex and gender. ↩️ 1y
peanutnine I highly recommend checking this out and educating yourself. The author reads the audiobook very well and both are available through Kindle unlimited. #Nonfiction2023 Toxic @Riveted_Reader_Melissa #LGBTQ2023 intersex rep @Kenyazero @Soubhiville 1y

Ander & Santi Were Here | Jonny Garza Villa

Pickpick

This book was heartbreaking in the best way. Ander is a muralist, taking a year for their art before they go to college. When Santi is hired at their family's restaurant, the two immediately hit it off despite their parents' warnings to keep a distance. What follows is a beautiful love story, gorgeous art descriptions, and the haunting reality of an immigrant's difficult journey to freedom.
