How to identify better judges:
"Three things matter. Judgements are both less noisy and less biased when those who make them are well trained, are more intelligent, and have the right cognitive style....good judgements depend on what you know, how well you think, and how you think. Good judges tend to be experienced and smart, but they also tend to be actively open-minded & willing to learn from new information."

Catching up on belated reviews (still)… I read this for my spiritual direction program back in March.
I don‘t have much of a background in psychology, so this was a great intro to the Jungian idea of the shadow: the aspects of ourselves, both good & bad, that we unconsciously hide or suppress. There‘s a lot packed into this slim volume, and I was surprised by—but appreciated—the connections Johnson makes to faith ⤵️
This is definitely interesting, but I felt a certain amount of skepticism about it as “science.“ I have a Psychology degree and not only have I seen a fair amount of what I learned in college debunked, but I also had to participate in an experiment which I found completely bogus. Nonetheless, if you accept their theories it does make sense out of a lot of otherwise inexplicable behavior. I would love to see a new update on Trump, *again*. 😫
Every now and again I need a little tune-up/deep dive into my alter ego who is a fulfilled and effective psychotherapist. This is my calling! Yalom is so comfortable in his skin, lending his years of experience and thinking outside of the paradigm of the field to guide budding therapists. If only I had this when I was young!
You guys probably already saw this on Goodreads insta but what type are you?? I‘m a NDCM and I‘m guessing I‘m the only one 🤪
