#MadeInUSA a nation made of diversity, is in our history….…diversein culture, race, sexual diversity…colors…opinions…but I hope will continue offering us love..respect…acceptance…safety…with free expression…the land that we used to know…of opportunities, made in USA ❤️Love the speech I have A Dream…To be proud that our diversity make us stronger if we are united.

I wanted to like this book more. As a Christian, I appreciate Christian leaders speaking out against racism. For me, this book still made those very subtle Southern excuses and even though many Southern Christians found it offensive, I don‘t think the message is strong enough. Jesus overturned tables and this is more like a pleading “come on guys we shouldn‘t still be doing this.” 👇🏻

megnews And as I‘ve said about other similar books, doubtful it will be picked up by those who need to hear the message. 3mo
Tamra I often think the same about many things I see or read - message is lost on those who need it most. 3mo

In Watershed, Everett draws parallels between the current and historic treatment of both Black and Native Americans in the US. And, of course, he still infuses the book with his trademark humor. This was terrific, and I‘m not surprised—the man is a marvel.

Hooked_on_books @Butterfinger I only discovered him a couple of years ago with The Trees and he‘d already been writing for decades. I‘ve been trying to redeem that as well. 8mo
Hooked_on_books @Amiable I haven‘t read it yet, but I have it. I‘m thinking I‘ll read that one in February. I‘ll try to remember to tag you in my review! 8mo
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB I‘m sad that it took me so long to find him but THRILLED that he has so many books for me to explore! He‘s incredible. 8mo

Mehso-so

This was a YA book tackling the topic of racism and discrimination at a (fake) Ivy League institution. While I thought the story was good, the writing fell a little flat for me -- I prefer authors like Angie Thomas and Nic Stone. That said, it wasn't bad, just a little disappointing.

Second Nonfiction of the year.

This is an in depth look at the Tulsa massacre it gives the events leading up to and during the event, and then goes on to follow some of the families affected and also the American laws that hindered the rebuilding and affected the integration, mobility and rising up of not only the Black families who were victims of the massacre but also throughout the US.
Very well done, written if a bit long.

I have the tagged on audio from my library.

I am about 30% into The Ballad (not loving it) and 40% into Lies & Weddings (ARC! Liking it!)

Hoping to finish those and get started on Doctor Zhivago and Saying It Loud (nonfiction about the Black Panthers) this week
