Not really sure where to start where my review of this one. There are several elements of this that I loved: a story within, there was one particular twist that is one of my favorite twists in all of Sager's books & the main character. Then there were several elements that I disliked: a twist towards the end that I frankly hated, the main character while often endearing was also frequently annoying. In terms of ranking: second from last place.

vivastory I am using this one for #morethan40chapters for #52bookclub 13mo
Leftcoastzen Oh boy , it‘s on my TBR 13mo
vivastory @Leftcoastzen You might feel different. I know a lot of readers loved this one. I will say that in typical Sager fashion it's a page turner. I read the whole book today. 13mo

CBee I just finished this today, and I loved it *but* was also annoyed with Kit at times, and that last twist might have been a bit unnecessary. Kept me turning the pages though and definitely enjoyed it! 9mo
vivastory @CBee The very last twist in the book honestly pissed me off. As someone who has worked in the IDD field for a long period of time, the thought that someone would intentionally pretend to not be as able bodied just for revenge?! Give me a fucking break! (Sorry, I *really* needed to get that out of my system. I thought it was in really poor taste) (edited) 9mo
CBee @vivastory I absolutely understand that - I think that with all of the outlandish twists happening one after another, it just didn‘t shock me as much since I was already shocked (if that makes sense). My bullshit meter was already maxed out I guess 😂🤷‍♀️ Glad you got it out of your system 😊👍🏻 9mo
vivastory @CBee This has been my issue with contemporary thrillers: piling twist on twist on for no other reason than to *shock* the reader but it is so cheap! I have been going back & reading the early suspense writers & they really focused on the psychology of the characters. Those stories might have twists, but they wouldn't be the focal point. So many contemporary thrillers just feel so cheap & frustrating to me 9mo
vivastory @CBee Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations 😉 9mo
CBee @vivastory I like the twists but, also like it a bit more drawn out. Have you read any Anthony Horowitz? I‘ve only read his Magpie Murders series but loved it - very much about the characters. It has twists, but they aren‘t meant to shock. Good stuff! 9mo
CBee @vivastory anytime, friend 😊 9mo

Mehso-so

This was a YA book tackling the topic of racism and discrimination at a (fake) Ivy League institution. While I thought the story was good, the writing fell a little flat for me -- I prefer authors like Angie Thomas and Nic Stone. That said, it wasn't bad, just a little disappointing.

Faith‘s fiance embarks on a walking trip to the west coast to give free hugs and find himself. In the meantime, she buys a small house with a mysterious past while dealing with upheaval in her immediate family. An enjoyable read but I‘m sure it is one I won‘t remember. 3.25 🌟

I was not so sure about this when I read the first chapter, but as I progressed in this book, I found I had to keep reading. A mystery bookshop amongst Colorado skiing, with a family named Christie (no relation that they know of) as the proprietors? Lots of Christie tidbits thrown in, which were fun to see. I guessed some parts of the mystery, but not all of it. I‘d definitely read the next in the series. Zeke agrees! #Zeke #CatsOfLitsy

Hooked_on_books That sounds like fun! 1y
Librarybelle @AmyG We don‘t have as much snow here as other parts of the state/country, but he relishes being an indoor cat. I think he would hate any amount of snow! 😂 1y
Librarybelle @BarbaraBB He is! He loves me being home! 1y
Librarybelle @Hooked_on_books Yes! I wasn‘t sure at first, but it quickly gained my interest. 1y
