Yay! My last read of the month was SOOOO GOOD! I absolutely LOVED this one! After a bit of a reading slump this audio just hooked me instantly! I couldn‘t stop listening 😊❣️Margo is living a quiet existence since she began working in a small town library but her past is about to catch up to her. It‘s a game of cat and mouse and I was ALL IN! Dual audio narration was excellent - really raising the intensity and fury of librarian Margo.

Old God's Time: A Novel | Sebastian Barry

so-so

I can‘t say I enjoyed this book - it‘s bleak, meandering and intentionally confusing. However the writing is really thoughtful and the prose paints a visually disturbing portrait of trauma and sorrow. Heavy topic of sexual abuse by clergy adds to this already dark story of a retired police officer who‘s living out an isolated existence. #BookerLongList23

A book within a book, a blending of fact & fiction, an alternate United States, cool photos and yet by the final 50 pages, I had enough😬 A mysterious artist known by the symbol “X” dies leaving her widowed wife to realize how little she really knew of the woman she was married to. When an unauthorized biography is released she sets out to set the record straight.
This leads her on a quest to discover who was X??? Super glad I went print!

squirrelbrain I did read it, Cindy, and like it a lot more than you did. It‘s one of those books though that, had I read it a slightly different time, I might not have enjoyed. #rightbookrighttime I haven‘t read Pew yet. 9mo

Cinfhen @Megabooks loved it too @squirrelbrain but I honestly felt like it was unnecessarily long! I felt that way about 3/4 books I read this week. I think my adult patience is tiring 🙄 9mo

Cinfhen I can see why you loved it @Megabooks it‘s VERY CLEVER and an incredible amount of talent to blend so much fact & fiction. But it was slightly pretentious and it started to feel repetitive and never ending. I just ran out of interest. 9mo

Centique @Cinfhen i was similar Cindy in that i enjoyed it but i didnt really connect with the characters. Pew is COMPLETELY different. A much simpler story. (IMO) 9mo

I read a free kindle version of this while listening to the audio read by Juliet Stevenson who does a fabulous job of making each member of the large cast of characters sound distinct without resorting to doing “voices”. The pictured cover is not on either of the editions I read from, but as I quite dislike both of those cover images I‘m imagining they had the cover from my favorite paperback edition 😉

IndoorDame When the #pemberlittens were finishing up their #chapteraday read of it, but I abandoned it then. Neither the print or the audio managed to hold my interest. I‘m not sure if it was the listening and reading simultaneously that made the difference, or if it was just a case of #rightbookrighttime but this time I loved it! It was a slow read, and it ended somewhat abruptly, but I loved seeing the characters grow and change. 1y

TheAromaofBooks I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, as I did NOT 😂 I would not have made it through without the I-can-at-least-read-one-chapter-a-day incentive LOL So many people absolutely love this one, but it just wasn't the right fit for me. 1y

#rightbookrighttime I‘ve been a bit blue, too many worries, this book helped me lighten up! When senior citizens in a charming retirement village team up for their murder club, little did they know they would soon go from cold cases to murder in their own backyard. Funny , witty,& warm.I need to get to the second one!

#julyjourneys #dance Powers first novel .He always engages with ideas.Technology is examined, how it brings out democratization of art through photography, & brings modern weaponry that makes WWI more horrifying.I‘ve never reread it , it moved me on every level .I can‘t say it‘s absolutely a great read for everyone but for me it was #rightbookrighttime
